    Pebbleshine felt discomfort weighing upon her as the fog of this morning still clung to her short, plush blue and white fur. Her swollen stomach pooched out from both sides of her flanks from where she stretched out on her side. Blue hues glittering with boredom met Runningstep's own hazel orbs as he padded over. As a sleek tom with large ears and slender, long legs, he lived up to his name; that was for sure.




    “Good morning, Pebbleshine.”




    The elderly warrior purred his greeting, gaze softened from their usually stern state. It was pretty obvious he held a soft spot for the queen. No, it wasn't because of feelings in that manner but, instead, because of the years he spent as her mentor. When he looked on her with pride, it was a prideful demeanor like that of a father staring upon his full-grown kit. He actually never had kits of his own. He had focused his time on rearing apprentices into brilliant warriors—how many had he had now? Five? Soon to be six. Now, Falconpaw was destined to be his last.




    His gaze flickered momentarily across her stomach, whiskers twitching. “How're the kits sitting?”




    Dismay fluttered across her motherly expression momentarily. “They've been kicking all night. This is just as bad as those four furballs crowding my nest at five moons. Hardly no sleep at all, let me tell you.”




    “I don't envy you there,” the tom mewed instantly, sitting next to the young queen as his tail flicked at her swollen flank. “It won't be long now, though. At this rate, Whisperclan will be blessed with even more apprentices. Hopefully after your four troublemakers become warriors. I'm not sure the apprentices den could take it!”




    Pebbleshine's jaws parted to respond until she grew aware of Stagheart clearing his throat. Her ears flicked momentarily before she beckoned him over with her lithe, short tail.

    Tawnypaw purred weakly upon hearing his retort. “You proved that much.” She fell silent, tail lowering to swish right above the ground. Flamestar looked reluctant upon hearing Phantom's words but he would never dare to speak back against his Medicine cats' wishes. Instead, he dipped his head obediently. “He's in your care then. Tawnypaw—-” His call to lead her out was cut off when the black she-cat spoke once more, allowing her to stay.




    Her father drew his tongue across the young calico's ear as her words caught in her throat once more. She merely nodded in response to Phantom, sitting down and curling her tail tightly around her paws, even after her father vanished from sight.

    Tawnypaw forced herself to remain stalk still as he touched his nose to her shoulder. "I should have been more focused. But the sound of the falls and—- and—-" A noise of remembrance dawned upon the she-cat as she sat up straighter. "And the cats-!" The statement was practically squeaked as she jumped to her paws. "I- I gotta tell—-" That was when the different scent wafted through the den, making her fur stand on end as she spun around.




    Then Swiftpaw's words dawned upon her ears.




    Tawnypaw could feel her skin underneath her calico coat of fur grow warm. Her paws kneaded against the ground, her warrior instinct telling her to confront the cats now within the camp. They were in the heart of their territory, for Starclan's sake! She sucked in a breath. 'He's in here because of you, you mouse brain.' Screwing her yellow gaze shut, the young apprentice forced the dire urge away, taking one small steadying breath before turning on her paws.




    "That sounds like a deal."




    The calico mewed, the fur along her spine still ruffled a teens-y bit. Stepping forward, she sat closer to the nest. Her short fur brushed against his own as she hunkered down, tail curled tightly around her paws once more. Anxiousness glittered in her emerald gaze.

    Hollypaw had only just slid from the apprentices' den—having spent a good amount of time grooming her fur to a sleek shine—before she became aware of a new scent. The tortoiseshell apprentice's moss-colored visionaries shot to the entrance. "Who are you?" Her voice claimed an edge to it as she crossed the distance and a couple of bounds.




    Pebbleshine was about to open her jaws to respond to Stagheart before she became more alert, catching heed of Hollypaw's words. Scrambling rather awkwardly to her paws, the blue and white cat hurried over, swiping her tail between her older kit and the stranger to back her away. "Hollypaw—-"




    "Her question still holds true, as blunt as it may have been."




    Flamestar's words broke through before his daughter could be reprimanded, striding from the medicine cat's den. His gaze was narrowed, yet voice calm. "You mentioned a clan mate — who?" In his mind, he was attempting to rack his brain on who he hadn't seen as of today but came up empty-pawed. He had been so busy between the prophecy and Swiftpaw's accident, he hadn't really paid attention to anything—not even what patrols were scheduled!

    Runningstep's large ears perked, eyes focused intently upon the others. Slowly, he drew himself towards Stagheart, beckoning with his tail towards the white cat in question. "Do you know who they're talking about? Who is that cat anyways?" Of course he was defensive about it; some random feline just strode into the very heart of their territory without even being noticed!
