Though it was a pretty sight outside where Emmaline was currently sitting, the inside of the cabin that they had found could be described as ‘grimy’ – but being that everything was covered in a thick layer of dust, grimy wasn’t exactly the word that could cover such an expansive layer of dust and dead moths that littered the place. The first thing the duo did upon finding the cabin was to sweep all the dust off of everything and take all the dead animals that had resided in the cabin and dispose of them far away from the cabin, they didn’t want the blood to attract any zombies [ I feel like they should have a name because zombie sounds a bit off…maybe it’s just me being weird ] from around. They had figured out that the zombies were attracted to blood and they weren’t the kinds you saw on television, the kinds that only come out at night and moan & groan as they limp towards you, limps flailing out in front of them as if they were toddlers just learning how to take their first steps. The zombies had evolved as the virus lasted and was passed throughout organisms; it had taken advantage of the human brain and shaped it into something deadly. These zombies were fast, deadly, and accurate when it came to hunting down humans but sloppy when it came to animals. They once came upon a deer that had been limping because the zombie that caught it did a sloppy job while on the other hand; they had come across many humans that had simply died from the virus because their bodies couldn’t handle it. Too many people were dying and the government was only making the matter worse.
”Help me. Why aren’t you coming back? You can’t just let me die here…please…” Voices from the past merged and hammered inside her head as the young woman leaned on wall near a fire which gently crackled, a deceased rabbit lay on the flames – only now the girl realized that the rabbit wouldn’t be enough to feed both of them…it had been so long since they actually had food that they hadn’t caught themselves so portion sizes were something that they hadn’t quite picked up on yet since everything was starving and dying around them. Since the big predators were usually hostile to the things that went on their territory, the big game was the first to start getting infected since the zombies were also creatures thirsty for blood and kill. One time they had gotten in the way of an infected bear only for it to charge them, if it wasn’t for Emmaline’s quick thinking they would have died since Faye had been hurt for a long time, having broken her arm from falling. But that wasn’t the point - since the big game had died off that shook the whole entire food chain in Washington since the prey animals also got bigger and started eating the vegetation. Everything started collapsing and they were left with small animals that would only feed one person unless they were lucky but some of the things that were easy to kill…they were easy to kill for a reason since they were infected. The girls were very careful with cooking food, making sure that nothing had any virus on them because if they got into contact with it and contracted the disease, there was no way to reverse the effects. Eating diseased food had taken a toll on a lot of humans since they didn’t know just how contagious the virus was and once Faye had realized her old group had all eaten infected food she took off, not wanting to see the people she had grown attached to turn into things that she would have to kill. It was always the same voice that echoed in her head, she had told her best friend about the food and how that was the reason she had to leave them. She left her friend to die alone with strangers and it haunted her, which was the very reason she wasn’t very open with Emmaline at first. But the girl won her over and now it was Faye’s main mission to protect and make sure nothing happened to her and she knew that Emmaline was the same way.
Since her senses had become acute from constantly having to listen for danger, she heard once Emmaline had dropped down from the roof. She watched as the shadow crossed the door to the room she was in. ”Hey Em, I have a rabbit for you. And yes it’s for you, don’t protest either…you gave me your bird a couple days ago.” She knew the girl would protest, always being selfless but sometimes you had to be selfish when faced with these kinds of situations. The young girl nodded over to the golden brown thing that she had over the fire as she rubbed her eyes with her free hand. She stifled a yawn as she watched Emma cross the room. ”I forgot to tell you last night but I figured out that there is a town not far from here but we would have to make sure we get there this week because the Cure is coming towards this way. But if you see here…” She explained as she traced a finger from their location to the town. ”I’m not sure if these are mountains or just a dense forest but we have to cut through it to get to the town.”
Faye was already turning a light shade of pink, looking down at the map in her hand. Before the apocalypse had happened, Faye was a popular cheerleader. Shocking right? She spent her days partying and drinking which meant that she skipped school every other day with her boyfriend, the star quarterback. She hadn’t learned to her full potential which meant that she didn’t know little things such as how to read a map but Emma helped her out but she felt weak. She glanced up, her slate grey eyes meeting the younger girl's eyes before trailing back down to the map.[/fancypost]
