she laughed at his words, a bright laugh that seemed to light up her entire face. “right, damien.” she tested his name on her tongue. it felt almost foreign to her; calling someone by their first name felt too personal for her liking, but she found herself easily adapting to his first name. planting her hands on the counter, she lifted herself up so that she was sitting on them, crossing one leg over the other, and tossing her shoulder length locks behind her and out of her face. “emmy,” she said after a moment, watching him go through his cabinets. “everyone calls me emmy. no one really uses my given name much.” she shrugged her shoulders. “i guess it's too much of a mouthful for most people.”

her phone buzzed in her pocket, alerting her of a message. she expected it to be from one of her parents, but instead it was a message from her brother, letting her know that said parents were out of town for the rest of the week. whenever her parents left, her curfew was pretty much abolished, considering her brother didn’t really care much to force his little sister home by midnight. as long as checked in, he was fine with her staying out as late as she wanted. “looks like i can be here as long as you want me to be san-damien. olivia and marcel are out of town.”

GENERAL HISTORY ➣ claudine was born the eighth child to king philippe and queen cecelia, born four minutes after her twin brother, isadore. the twins were the first children born to the queen cecelia. her older six siblings were born to the late queen, queen fiona. the deceased queen fell ill after her the birth of her last daughter, louisa, and passed away only a few short months later. the king was devastated after the death of his wife and found comfort in the duchess cecelia. it wasn't until cecelia found out she was pregnant with isadore and claudine that the king decided to marry her so that his children would not be born as bastards. together, the king and new queen would have two more children together.

growing up, claudine was forced into lessons of etiquette, she was taught to stand tall and be silent. she knew that she would be married off one day like her two elder sisters, estelle and louisa were. the idea never appealed to claudine, but she knew better than to argue with her parents. during the day, claudine the perfect representation of a princess, prim and proper, silent and resilient. at night, however, claudine was much different. at a young age, claudine fell in love with a kitchen boy name sade. he treated her like an equal to him, despite her status as a princess. they would run the halls of the castle at night, avoiding sight of the palace guards, and often times they would sneak out into the garden. claudine found herself drifting away from her duties as princess and she found herself often helping the kitchen staff whenever she could sneak away. it didn't take long for her father to find out that she was neglecting her duties and lessons. an argument broke out between the king and his daughter when he confronted her bout her relationship with the commoner. king philippe said many awful things to his daughter in hopes that she would destroy whatever relationship that she had with the kitchen boy. he had told her she would taint their royal blood, that she would be the ultimate downfall of her own self and the kingdom, and many more awful things. still, claudine refused to give up the kitchen boy. the king decided that if he couldn't get claudine to give up sade, he would force sade to give up claudine. the next few days that would follow would stain claudie's hands in red for the rest of her life. the king ordered the death of sade's family, his mother, father, and his two younger siblings. he forced the kitchen boy and his daughter watch as they were publicly executed. the kingdom did not know the reasons for such young deaths, but no one dared challenge the king. after their death, sade blamed claudine for his family's death, refusing to ever speak to her again. claudine would spend her days wandering the halls, catching mere glimpses of her former lover without being able to say anything to him.

the next year would bring an event that would shake the royal family. it is well known that kodora holds strict laws and punishments, it is not often that there are exceptions to punishments. queen cecelia found herself falling pregnant after an affair with an ambassador from another kingdom, a pregnancy that would birth the youngest daughter, demetria. as hard as the royal family tried to conceal the scandal going on within the palace, word got out from a gossip. the kingdom demanded the death of cecelia and the baby. king philippe had even considered killing his wife and cecelia's daughter. though he loved them both, despite her being a cheater and the child not being his own, he had to keep up appearances, and that meant going along with their own laws. it was the combined forces of claudine and her older brother, the crowned prince jacobe , that swayed their father's decision. the two royal children entered their father's bedchambers, where cecelia was laying in bed, holding princess demetria, while the king the pacing. claudine pulled a dagger on her brother and held it to his neck, threatening to kill him if her father punished her mother and sister by death. of course, jacobe knew of the dagger and her sister's plans, he also knew that claudine wouldn't kill him, jacobe was the king's favorite son, he would never let him die. as they suspected, the king agreed to keep cecelia and the baby alive, he even went as far as publicly claiming demetria as his own daughter. after the stunt that claudine pulled, the king decided to marry her off sooner than he had originally planned. now, a few short years later, claudine is on her way to meet her new fiance.
