    Shale lowered his head to the ground and looked tiredly at his cat friend Ebony. She was staring at a squirrel halfway up a tree, tail flicking impatiently. The squirrel seemed to be mocking her, casually cleaning its tail while the frustrated cat below tried to find a way to get to it without chasing it off.
    "Honestly, Ebs, there's no way you can get that. Go look for some other prey," he said for what seemed like the thousandth time. She simply turned her head and hissed at him.
    "No way, shale. This is a matter of pride now. I am getting that squirrel." Looking up the tree for a minute more, she narrowed her eyes and said "Screw it," then rushed up the tree, towards the mocking squirrel.
    Shale simply sighed. "So stubborn..."

    Shale stood up, knowing that Ebony would be a while, and padded casually away. He spotted a hole that looked like it had been dug up slightly and decided to go investigate. There wasn't anything better to do, anyway.
    Reaching it, he peered down to see two rabbits huddling in the back. Ah, so that's what that smell was. Not particularly hungry at the moment and wanting something to do, Shale lied down at the hole's opening and cocked his head. "Hello," he said, more for the fun of it than expectation of the rabbits understanding him.

    He chuckled at the absurdity of the situation. A fox talking to rabbits! Oh, the things he did for entertainment...

    His amused smile turning to a slightly annoyed frown as he heard Ebony bounding up to him. Turning towards her, he noticed the definite lack of squirrel in her mouth, and his smirk returned. "So, how'd the hunting go, Ebs?"
    She snarled at him. "Stop being such a jerk, Shale. You know I didn't catch it." She paused, sniffing the air. "Hey, do I smell rabbit?"
    "Yeah, there are two right here. Don't eat them, though, I'm having fun with them." Shale stood, stretching. "Y'know, it's surprisingly fun to talk to something that can't talk back. No annoying snark." At the word 'snark', one eye opened and he looked at Ebony with an amused grin. She simply snorted.
    "Whatever. Play with the prey all you want, I'm finding us a proper dinner." And with a self-righteous 'humph' she stalked away, ears pricked for the sound of some food she could actually catch.

    Kyra shrank back in the human's arms, trying and failing to stop from whimpering. What was she planning to do to her? Kyra hoped she wouldn't prick her with the hurting medicines again, or hook her up to all of those scary machines. But she knew at least one of those things, or something close, would happen, so she didn't get her hopes up. As she was taken to the room where the human's did the bad things, she couldn't help but wonder why she put up with this. She really did want to help, and she knew her pain went towards better things for other poke'mon, but she really didn't like all the pain and torture involved.[/fancypost]
