"Of course, not at all. You're doing great, in fact, sickness wise," he nodded, just going along with it. "But you still have to finish it. I paid for this, all right? We don't waste food in this family." He announced, waving the spoon.

Tasting the soup, he realized it was definitely not the best but then again, it wasn't the worst either. For now, it was all they had anyway. He waited a while to watch her lazying around with the spoon, hands shaking still and gave up.

"All right, do you need help with that, Mel?" He asked, hoping she wouldn't decline being as stubborn as she was. The soup was still hot and he didn't want any soup spilling on her obviously. "Look, it's cool, you know? You're still on your meds so your hands being slightly unstable is okay." He swirled the spoon in the other bowl of soup, taking half a spoon and picking it up. "Sooo, there's no shame in this, all right?" He said encouragingly, extending the spoon to her face. "Come on, take it. It came all the way here, just for you."

"Everyone," she said incredulously, blinking at the slice of pizza and taking another bite. Then she leaned towards the guy, "I'm going to tell you a secret..." she whispered, "Everyone's an asshole in this world." Then with her wisdom passed on, she pulled back and chewed on the pizza.

"Except you." She sighed, "I thought you were an asshole too..." and exclaimed loudly, staring at the ceiling, "But you're nice??" She looked back at him in shock, gasping dramatically, "Which is SO WEEEIRD. I don't get it?? I don't get it."

Damaris ignored the complain, he knew it was coming anyway. He was making it his sole responsibility to take care of her until she was perfectly well and no amount of complaining was going to come in between.

"Thanks for what?" He begin, "For not getting to you in time? Or being an idiot and risking worse injuries by getting you up seconds after you were hit?" He stuffed the spoonful of soup in her mouth before she could react.

"I'm just..." He took a long breath, trying to lighten the mood again and changing the topic, "Glad you're okay. Okay? Let's focus on that."

"We're friends??" She said dramatically, blinking hard, "I think not!" she ended, saluting him with a smile and waiting for the shock to settle in his face, which it sure as heck did, brilliantly.

Looking at his reaction, she immediately retracted, singing a little, "I'm just kiddinggg, punksterr. Or or or more like," She bobbed to his side and ruffled his hair, "Carrot head!" exclaiming as if she'd just discovered a new planet.

"You really areee a redhead! Woaaah~" She continued, finding it hilarious for some reason and laughing as she stared at the redhead in pure wonder and amusement.

"One more day, I think. And I'm not leaving you alone," He proclaimed, without a doubt on his face. The soup was almost finished, he realized happily. He was good at this.

"These chairs aren't all that bad, you know?" He started, when he was finished with the soup, putting everything aside and out of the way, his own food still untouched. He wasn't really hungry anymore, suddenly hit with a wave of sleep when she mentioned sleep.

"I was thinking, if I joined four, it wouldn't be a very bad bed? Like, it can work...for a while, until I drop face first," He shrugged, lazily crossing his arms on the edge of the bed and putting his head on them. "Or I can just steal myself a hospital bed when everyone's asleep and stay here with you."

Veleda noticed, midway between her insanity that he wasn't looking too cheerful. She frowned. Did what anyone would have done, picked up a pizza slice and smacked his face with it, "What's up with that stupid face?" She scolded, dropping the slice on his side and picking a new one.

"Okaaaaay," He mumbled, remembering half of the list. Well, this wasn't too bad either. It was strangely comfortable and he was already getting dizzy. Yep, he could definitely stay like this for a while.

"Mhmm, yeah," he replied, snoozing off in two seconds, asleep.

"What?" She scowled, taking a pizza bite angrily, "Why you yellin' at me, punkster? I will end you!" She said, raising her pizza to the skies in declaration.

Her arm fell, just as her face did. "You have donuts?" She scanned the room, finding a package at the side table.

"I'm gonna get them, watch me," she eyed the donuts and looked back at him, finishing the slice. Then suddenly, as if struck by a spell, she was smiling again, staring at her hands, "Evie loved donuts," she spoke dreamily.

She placed her hands on her lap, the slice forgotten. "Evie was my sister," she was saying, still a bit in her own world. Until she turned her head to look at him, completely entranced by the bright emerald, "She had eyes just like yours."

Even though something inside her head told her to get away, she didnt protest. Instead she stayed still, thinking about green eyes and curly black hair. Her little sister, cheerful and happy.

She knew she was supposed to feel angry, she somehow knew she had to feel frustrated and mad. But for now, she only felt grief and cold, the only warmth coming from the embrace. Her thoughts weren't clear, all that was left was was a dreadful clatter and her sister's face. She didn't understand much.

"It's fine," she said slowly, even though a tear dripped down and on his shirt.

    "It's fine."

Veleda was staring at her hands again, frozen.

"I don't know," She tried to focus, remember all the details, remember the frustration and fire.

But was left with only a heavy heart and hurt.

"She was just a child," She breathed at last, tears welling up in her eyes. Nothing made sense and nothing ever did.

Then it hit her, the memory flashed back as clear as day, forcing her to coil and uncoil her hands slowly.

"I wasn't there. I...should have...been there," she was shaking as she spilled everything she could remember. Her sister on the floor, lifeless.

"I f-found her," covered in blood. Sharp breath. She couldn't see.

"They killed my Evie," she whispered, trembling. "They..."

    Her voice broke.

Then the world around her shattered and she closed in on herself in silent whimpers.
