Echoleaf strolled out of the warriors den, yawning. Her silver tabby fur glimmered in the sun, and her green eyes seemed to glow. She stretched, her slender body quivering, and then examined the camp. Everywhere cats were eating and socializing.

    Well, except for one.

She had always thought that Spottedclaw was attractive, but she didn't really know him that well. Besides, everybody knew that the poor tom was head over heels with Willowflower, who was expecting. As she watched him quietly scan the clearing, she decided that enough was enough. Somebody had to cheer him up, right?

She padded over to him, her fluffy fur almost bouncing with every step.

    "Hey," she greeted him, smiling.

He sank down on the river bank, miserable. Not that the feeling was new to him, but he thought he had finally done something right...

    Maybe he wouldn't go back.

He leapt into the river, the freezing water numbing him down to his bones. Why was this effecting him so much? She hadn't officially rejected him, right?

The demons in his head thought otherwise. She's never going to love you, they teased. You may as well just leave. It's not like she's gonna miss you, anyway.

He swam across the river, his hot tears mixing with the freezing water, his limbs slowly becoming immobile. He barely made it across, but he crawled onto the river bank. It started to rain. He picked himself up off the ground, and felt a wave of emotions crash into his body. He had to escape these thoughts, these demons.

He ran, his paws slipping and sliding in the mud, his body growing weaker with every step. He knew what he was doing was wrong, but he only made it a few feet before his exhausted body collapsed. He tried to get up, but he couldn't.

He didn't know what happened next. There was a huge crash, and then a tree toppled over, trapping him under the massive trunk. He yelped when one of the branches pierced his side, but besides that, he wasn't injured. The branches of the tree seemed to form a cage around him. He wasn't dead, but he was trapped.

Also, there was a tree branch sticking out of his side.

He lay there in the mud, his gray fur soaked with river water and rain, tears still streaming out of his blue eyes, blood seeping out of his wound. They couldn't see him like this. He wasn't supposed to break, he was supposed to be strong. But, there was nothing he could do.

    He closed his eyes.

"Sure!" She exclaimed, her tail high in the air. She knew that was a fake smile; she could tell.

She had mastered those a long time ago.

"Where do you want to sit?" she asked.

((OOC: Is it okay if she joined the clan when she was 7 or 8 moons old? I mean she went through her apprenticeship and everything, but she was born a loner?))

Her fur bristled at the sound of his voice, and her first instinct was to get as far away from him as possible. She was surprised she recognized his voice, and even more surprised at the tiny bud of happiness in the back of her mind. She quickly killed it; assassins weren't supposed to show emotion.

Not that he was her target anymore, but...

"What do you want?" She groaned. "I thought you had better things to do than mess around with feeble mousebrains?" She was surprised she remembered that detail from their conversation.

However, she couldn't help but wonder why he was sneaking around. The more she thought about, the more she thought that he had been following her. But why?

"I'll be the official taste tester," she laughed, and took a bite of the sparrow. It was juicy and delicious, but she didn't have much of an appetite.

"It's great, but you have the rest. I'm not that hungry," she meowed, nudging it over to him.

She watched him as he paced around her, keeping her guard up. His blue eyes seemed to survey her, as if they were piercing their way right to her soul. She stared back at him, her eyes never leaving his, hoping that their demonic redness would unnerve him a bit.

"It's none of your business," she answered, flicking her tail. The rain made her whiskers droop.

He could hear her begging, and he desperately wanted to tell her that there was nothing he could do. He wanted to leave this miserable life, to run and never look back, to join his friends and family on the other side.

    But he couldn't leave her.

He loved how her green eyes brightened when she smiled, the way her reddish brown pelt shimmered in the sunlight, how she laughed at all of his stupid jokes, her. And he could hear her crying, and he knew that it was because of him, and he couldn't allow that.

He struggled to find a way to show her that he wasn't gone yet, but he was too weak. He didn't have the strength to open his eyes, to say anything. He could barely breath, as it was. He knew that as soon as this stupid tree was off of him, he would have a lot more energy, but as long as that branch was on top of him, he couldn't do anything.

He gathered all of his strength.

But all he could do was twitch his ear. He hoped somebody saw it.

The rest was up to them, he thought, and the last thing he thought about before he drifted off completely was her smile.

    ((OOC: Hmmm.... Interesting...))

She knew that some cats where dropped on their heads as kittens and they ended up being a little special, but this one was clearly thrown at a wall.

"First of all, why are you telling me that somebody employed you to kill me? Second of all, I can assure you that I am NOT a demon's offspring. I. Am. A. Cat. Are you blind? And if we're gonna chat, can we at least get out of the rain first??" She flicked her tail, but the demon's offspring thing had hit her hard. She assumed that he was referring to her appearance, and she felt hurt that he was mocking her, just like all the others. She felt a hot tear well up in her eye, and she shook her head, hoping he wouldn't notice.

    ((OOC: Mwahahahaha xD))

    She glared at him. "Incidents?"

She couldn't help but think about when he chuckled, because honestly, it was kinda cute. Wait, she thought, assassins don't show emotion.

The rain started to go away, finally.

((OOC: the cockiness is real xD))

The branch stabbing his side was gone, and he felt a surge of energy rush through his body. He was still weak, but he could open his eyes.

So he did, and the first thing he saw was her. His vision focused, and he saw the rest of the pack behind her, along with the fallen tree and the bloody branch that had pierced him.

"Sorry to keep you waiting," he murmured, surprised by how sore his throat was. He smiled at them.

"Thank you for letting us stay, but nobody has lived here for years." Aspen answered.

"We've both lived here all our lives, nobody has lived in this house for dozens of years," Hunter added, putting his hand on Aspen's shoulder.
