[fancypost borderwidth=0px; width: 380px][justify][sub][color=black]After I'd scrubbed down all the dishes, I toweled them off to dry and began placing them back on the shelves. I tilted my head in confusion, pausing as I heard Allen say that he was going for another look around the town before turning in. That was rather odd. Most of the villagers would be in their houses by now. "Um, alright then," I called through the kitchen door. I heard his footsteps move towards the door, and hesitate, before I then heard the door open and click shut. As soon as I heard the door close, I quickly put the other dishes away, then I darted out of the kitchen and over to the window in the front room. I saw that, instead of heading back towards the town, the white-haired boy began to trek towards the forest. Now why would he be going into the woods at a time like this? Was it all for his supposed assignment? I felt a strange urge to go after the boy as I watched him draw closer to the trees. I knew it wouldn't be right to follow Allen, but there was something that kept tugging at me to follow him anyway. Finally I sighed, caving into the desire.
I walked over towards the door, snatching a dark cloak off a hook as I did. I draped it around my shoulders as a barrier against the nighttime chill, fastening the tiny hook to keep the garment in place. Then, I quietly slipped outside, closing the door without making a sound. I flitted about the shadows of the house until I perceived the boy to be far enough away that I wouldn't be noticed by him. I then stepped out of the deepening shadows surrounding the house, and started after Allen with quick, light-footed steps, pulling the cowl of the cloak up to cover my face. The sun had fully set by now, and the moon was rising up over the horizon. Stars twinkled like diamonds in the black velvet sky, shedding little light through the thickly grown branches of the forest. If one didn't know the terrain, it was easy to get lost in the labyrinth of trees. Even then, it was better to wander the woods in the light of day, where you could see anything that might impede the path. I was incredibly familiar with the woods, but still didn't go deeply in at night, though I didn't usually go into the forest at night either.
Keeping Allen in my line of sight was relatively easy as long as I focused on his uncovered white hair and the little speck of gold fluttering around him. His uniform also had some silver that glinted in the low light of the woods. I stayed a ways behind the boy, keeping to the deep shadows and stepping carefully so as to not step on anything that could alert him to my presence.
"Well well, what do we have here?" I suddenly heard a taunting, mechanical sounding voice ring through the otherwise quiet woods, sounding much louder in the silence. "An exorcist!" The voice cackled manically. "Off on a search for some Innocence?" After these words, an oddly looking beast floated down from the sky, an insane smile plastered across its face. The creature had a slender, humanoid form. Both its arms and legs were abnormally long and stretchy however, giving it the appearance of an elastic toy. His head seemed small in proportion to its body, and was a pale, milky white color, with the rest of its body was patterned in black and white coloring. Behind the beast rose even more strange creatures. These creatures all had similar appearances however. They were all round in shape, with a white face near the top of the...body? Sprouting from each were long, log-like appendages, which were all trained at Allen.
I froze behind a tree, eyes widening in fear as the demonic creatures came out of nowhere. My hands tightened on the bark of the tree I was gripping tightly. Innocence? Exorcist? What were these things talking about? And why did they know the white-haired boy? As the strange creatures appeared, a piercing pain in my skull suddenly flared up. I covered my mouth with one hand in an attempt to stifle my squeak of pain, the other flying to my forehead. It felt like thousands of daggers were being pushed through my head. It was all I could do not to collapse in pain, and fear of the strange creatures was probably the only thing keeping me standing. Suddenly, I heard a noise behind me, and whipped around to see one of the strange creatures had appeared. I yelped in terror, darting off to hide behind a different tree as the thing fired purple projectiles at me. I barely dodged that attack, smoke rising from where the missiles had struck the ground. My breathing came fast and quick as my gaze wildly darted around the scene as I tried to ignore the flaring pain resounding through my skull.
