I don't know what clan she'll go to, or what she'll look like because I want to try and find a perfect litter for her (if you want to suggest some that'd be great).

Jubilee, to help you get around the problem of people mistaking your characters for a tiger I'd suggest making it very clear what kind of animal you're playing/your characters appearance in your role-play ("The domestic cat did this. The brown tabby did that. Etc.") so that people won't get confused.
Sometime people put, "I role-play on sub-accounts!" in their signatures or their 'Custom Title'/'Personal Text' sections of their profiles (found in the Forum Profile part of your profile), so if you want you could put 'I don't role-play on sub-accounts.'
To answer your questions: You do not have to have any sub-accounts at all if you do not want them. People usually use them to make things organized (as Hollow said) and to role-play off of so they don't clutter their main account. You can customize sub-accounts entirely around your character, which is why they are so useful. To make one go to your profile, hover over Modify My Profile and click on Manage Sub-accounts and there you can create sub-accounts! They are basically like a whole new account except you don't log in with them and they are connected to your main account for easy access!
