This roleplay is going to follow the lives of one band of wild horses living in the mountains as they struggle with the hardships of feral life. All the horses within this herd are mustangs from all kinds of bloodlines. They are diverse in color, size, and shape.
What Threatens the Horses?
- Predators (cougars, bears, coyotes, wolves)
- Bureau of Land Management (BLM) - capture horses using helicopters
- Natural Disasters (tornadoes, wild fires, drought)
- Weather (storms, blizzards, snow, temperature)
- Disease (can kill off an entire herd or just a foal)
- Other Bands (bachelors, older stallions}

Herd Dynamics
There is a lead pair in each herd consisting of a mare and stallion. The mare usually leads to herd places while the stallion takes up the back to make sure the other horses are all keeping up. The lead stallion will resort to snaking his herd if he senses danger is near by, he wants them to move quickly in a certain direction, or he is trying to keep a stubborn mare from running off back to her previous herd. The lowest ranking horses in the herd are satellite stallions. However, they are only prevalent in the larger herds and are not allowed to breed with the mares (although it can happen). Lead stallions will usually breed with every available mare within the herd. Sometimes a pregnant mare will be snaked away from a herd and give birth within the new herd. It is then up to the lead stallion whether or not he will raise the foal as his own, or kill it in cold blood.
