"Yes?" I answered. You know for a nice sister, sometimes she was more like a parent than anything else. She looked at me with concerned eyes as I was trying to light as many candles as possible in my room.
"Fine," I muttered. "I'll blow them out. Can I help you?"

"I haven't actually," I finished blowing out the over-sized amount of candles with one last blow, and a cloud of smoke enveloped me. Coughing, I continued, "You know I am usually not told of these things. I get most of the information of the kingdom from you."

    -Mary DeGrance-

    "Come in," I moaned.
They walked (well, Gwen stormed) into my room.
"Get up Mary!" Gwen hissed. "Get up! We told you to be in the courtyard!"
"Yeah," I mumbled, "Yeah..." I almost fell back asleep when I felt Merlin wrap his arms around me and lift me out of my bed.
"No falling back asleep for you," he said. "We have to leave."
I felt heat rise into my cheeks, and imagined them turning into a rose color that Merlin had caused. I was still in my white nightgown and Merlin couldn't see me like this, I wasn't at my best. But then I thought, Why do I care?
He put me back down near my vanity.
"Fine," I said. "But if I'm to leave, you better leave Merlin. Unless you want to see me dress too?"
    "Be down in five minutes?"
    "Ten."
He nodded and left the room.
Gwen stood in the corner trying not to laugh at us. She had a smirk that said, 'These two like each other.'
"Shut up," I snapped. "Beautiful dress by the way. Although I think I'll go for my pink dress. The one with the secret knife holders, you know."
And my pink dress, if you tore off or untied the first layer of it lay a whole array of weapons simply attached to it.
Beautiful but deadly. That was my sort of thing.

I yawned as I clumsily rolled out of my bed. It was early in the morning, and I was not a morning person. I would see Brenton today though, which was good. I loved seeing his cheeky smile in the morning. It perked me up. I opened my trunk and put on my orange Camp Half-Blood shirt, my jeans, and my purple gem necklace. The necklace was inside an intricately designed copper frame. One of the last gifts from my mother. I put my arm through the straps of my knife holder, designed for easy use. If anybody attacked, BAM. A knife to the heart.
I hobbled down to the pavilion. I grabbed my usual breakfast consisting of fruits, graham and yogurt. I wanted the glass to fill with milk, so it did. After I ate, I noticed my friend Annabeth was sitting alone at the Athena table twirling her fork around for no reason.
"No luck finding Percy?" I asked.
"None." She started to cry and I just told her she would find him. Our loves always come back to us. (I learned that from the time the Aphrodite cabin had me come over. For my friend, of course.) And she and Percy were in love, no doubt. A blind man could see it.
I wondered around, until we had to go to our first sessions of the day. Mine was knife throwing.
    And I was teacher today.

    -Mary DeGrance-
I draped my red cloak over my shoulders as we trotted down the stone steps that led into the courtyard.
"Well finally, Mary!" Arthur said. "Did you take long enough?"
"Shut up Arthur," I ordered. "Before I stick your own sword where it hurts."
I gave Ernie and Gauis a smile.
"The horses are getting skittish," Gaius plopped himself atop of his brown horse. "Best get going then."
I mounted my own horse, a black horse that I named Fury, when I was very young.
Merlin brought his own horse up to mine. "I'm sorry about Arthur," he started.
    "I heard that!"
He rolled his eyes and continued, "But I think you look very beautiful, Mary."
    "Thank you," I smiled.

    -Mary DeGrance-
"We could take another person with us and wander about the village, ask the other villagers. See what they know." I suggested.
"Okay," Arthur said "But I want-"
I cut him off. He was going to whine, like he usually does about a lot of things. "Great. You and Gwen, Merlin can come with me and Ernie can go with Gwaine. A little bonding. Doesn't that sound nice?"
    "No," Arthur said.
We eventually split up but I asked Gaius to stick behind Arthur and Gwen a bit so they didn't kill each other.
This would be a fun day filled with sickness and death. Oh joy.

    -Mary DeGrance-

"Okay welcome to knife throwing...or whatever." I was never very good at speeches or talking out loud. "Today you will be just practice-throwing. Jamiel lost his knife so he's borrowing one. We'll learn the Concor technique tomorrow. Stolls- where did you even get that?" They were holding a chalice, pure silver and but with gold detailing that filled in things such as the dragon that lay right in the front. "I'll take that, thank you."
I knew right after this class, I was taking this to the big house. The chalice glowed with a silvery light that came from purely nowhere, just simply...existed.
"We found it in a hole," They explained. "Right next to a big tree with markings. Like little drawings etched into the bark."
Little drawings etched into the bark.
"Anyway," I continued, this time to the entire class. "I want to see your holding position.
As I searched up and down for the perfect position, I had to say things like,
"No Kenna, if you hold it like that you'll drive a knife to your heart."
    "ENTIRELY too low."
"No, no, no, no, no, no! Face it up! Face it up!"
Poor little Kenny, seven years old, could hardly hold his straight. "Do you want to be my assistant?" I asked him. I honestly thought that he should have been somewhere else maybe learning how to identify plants. I knew that if we ever got attacked he would need to be prepared, but really?
He nodded his head, and hobbled over to the stone bench where I sat while I monitored the class.
"They need to learn how to throw," I mumbled to myself. Lawrence almost took out Jennifer's eye. "Everyone stop what they are doing. I said STOP! Please watch me before you decapitate someone. First of all, I will demonstrate how to throw it, then how to actually use it, properly and throw it correctly so it can hit its target...not your foot, Jamiel."

They organized themselves into a line (bless) and watched me I had three targets directly in front of me. I focused.
    One. Bullseye.
    Two. Bullseye.
    Three. Bullseye.

I paused for a moment before little Kenny applauded for me. I gave him a smile. I turned around and found my entire class with their jaws wide open.
    "Okay," I said. "Knives up!"
They lifted there knives, some with a loud clank as they stayed in the line. I gradually moved down adjusting them.
"Kenna, look at this." I pointed to the right side of the knife where it had a curved line. "Put your thumb there. Now, put your index finger on the blade. Good good."
I then proceeded to show the entire class that, "Remember put your thumb on the curved part, put your index finger on the blade."
After that, I thought they were ready for throwing. I had them throw 10 times. Some kids hit the target. While others missed terribly. That was okay. Like me with swords.
The conch horn blew, signaling us to go to our second session of the day. Before that though, I had to take this chalice to the big house.

    -Mary DeGrance-

"Merlin, we could take our horses and look around. They would give us a better view of the area while we look for suspicious characters."
"Alright. Which way should we go first?"
"I'm thinking north. Just a bit. Find the boundaries and I could ask the village ladies. They are usually nice."

"I'm sorry, but is your dress...clanking?"
"Yes it is actually," I sat up a bit taller.
    "Why?"
"Weapons." At that word he had a puzzled face.

We finally stopped at a small cottage made of beige stone and a small four post area sectioned off. Though it had nothing in it, it seemed almost normal. But then again it had nothing in it.
"Seems...well not peculiar from the outside," I noted.
Merlin was already off his horse and was tying it around one of the posts. He helped me out of my own saddle and let me down gently.
"I don't know," Merlin sounded cautious. "I lived in a village like this- there is always a house that you can't trust."
"I'm going to trust you, since you've lived in a village and I've lived in a castle my whole life. I think I'll check indoors. Do you want to check 'round back?"
"That's fine. Be careful in there Mary...okay?"
    "I will Merlin."

I wish Gwen was here. She knew I didn't really like going into places I didn't know alone; that's why I don't like trying things. Especially dark, mysterious eerie places- I always get chills down my back and everything is cold to me. The place was completely empty except for a few vials on a black table in the middle.

I could see Merlin through the hole in the wall that was supposed to be a window, I had guessed. At least I knew I wasn't alone. On the table sat the three vials. One with a black mixture that looked like paste. The second one was blue almost as clear as water- but you could tell there was blue inside of it. The third was white, but looked more like smoke in a bottle. They all had labels on them except they were in a language that I couldn't read. Strange, I thought, very strange.

"Merlin?" I called. He made his way around front.
    "Yes Mary? What is it?"
I held up the vials. "I think I've found something."

He took the black one, looked at it. He seemed to understand although I wasn't sure if he could read the parchment label. He looked at the blue one, and seemed confused then, I'd lost hope. He saw the white one and did a double take.
"We need to show these to Gaius," he finally reported.
    "Agreed. But...where are the others?"
"I think Gwaine and Ernie went to the farm. Arthur, Gwen and Gaius...well we'll find them."

    -Mary DeGrance-

"We found something," I said, gasping for breath. Merlin and I had spent no time getting onto our horses to head to Gwen, Arthur and Gaius.
"Gauis," Merlin handed him the three vials. "We need you to identify these."
I added, "We found them in an empty house at the very end of the village."
Gwen smiled, "It's cute how you finish each other's thoughts. It is."
Gauis observed the vials carefully. "The white one looks like smoke, the blue water and black...hemlock. But yes, I will look at these more carefully. Have you found Ernest and Gwaine yet?"
"We know where they are but we haven't gotten them yet. We wanted to make sure we got these to you."
I mounted Fury again, so we could gather Ernest and Gwaine.

    -Mary DeGrance-
"The water?" I mused. The pieces were coming together now. A drop or two of the blue and nobody would notice. Meanwhile the condiment would be spreading like wildfire contaminating the water. "Of course. The blue, just a drop or two and that would do the trick. Spread like wildfire and 'course it would contaminate it. But what is it made of? Although I think that's your department, Gaius. We need to get back to the castle. Now."

ooc: skip to the time they get back to the castle?

    -Mary DeGrance-
As there was a hugely important feast tonight, I had to dress better than my usual self. I chose a black dress with the most intricate detailing. I, no matter what was planning on having my mini braid. Although I decided to go for a headpiece.

I wondered what Gwen would be wearing. Perhaps her red dress, or her white and silver one. I don't know. She always surprised me. As I looked at my hair I could almost hear her saying, "Oh sister. We need to find you a maid." I brushed through my brown hair trying to make it straight, though it stayed curly at the ends.

Honestly, I could do with some food right now. I had been locked up here for almost three hours expected to do nothing except get ready. God, getting ready does not take that long. I did like to look pretty, but three hours was too much time. There was almost 20 minutes until the feast was supposed to begin, and I had done everything. Would it be bad to roam the castle? I decided that it wouldn't be bad to roam the castle, just go to Gwen's chambers.

I opened the door slowly, and quickly ran across the hall to where Gwen's chambers.

ooc: if you guys want to make Mary talk in any of these i really do not care okey

    -Mary DeGrance-
As I slid into the room, I saw Gwen fashioning her burgundy dress with a gold leaf belt. "Oh Gwen," I sighed. She did a twirl in her dress and the ends did a little dance in the air. "You look beautiful! Oh, Ernest you look lovely! Even more lovely than you usually are! Do I look all right?"

ooc: WHY DIDNT I GET ANNOUNCED IN

    -Mary DeGrance-

This dinner was positively boring. I had nothing to do except eat, which was my favorite thing (ooc: like Gwen. See what I did there. I actually thought of doing that before I read your post el oh el) though it isn't ladylike at all so God forbid my mouth say that. I should say dancing, or sewing, something like that is my favorite, although all I actually cared about was the food. Good God, this food was good.

I exchanged a couple glances with Gwen. I couldn't tell if she was annoyed by Arthur (bless) or was adapting to his new attitude towards her. She had no expression except for a slight moment when the ham touched her tongue and she looked like she was in heaven.

    "I saw that," I mouthed.
    "Shut. Up."

I grinned. God, was this music ever going to start? The sooner the better, because then the sooner this feast would be over. However, I had to dance which wasn't the worst. I mean, it's talking through your body.

"Then you can dance with anyone you like," Ernest had said. Anyone I like. Please. If I could do that, Gwen and I would probably just be twirling aimlessly in the middle of the floor.

"Uther, do I have to dance?"
"Mary, it's ladylike. Try your best please, child." Apparently some of the pig sauce was still on my face because Uther took a napkin and wiped it off. "I think they will start with the music soon, Mary. Then you can go to your chambers."

I gave a slight groan, and not a second later the music started. I didn't have to sit here, nor did Uther say I have to dance. I went to the corner where Ernest and Merlin were. At least I had some friends here.
"Mary," Merlin motioned towards the floor. "You look lovely, but you should be dancing."
"I don't wish to right now," Just as I said it Gwen gave me a death glare that clearly said 'Come dance now.' "Fine. I can dance with anyone I like, right? Dance with me Merlin." I pulled away dragging him with me as he tried to pull back.
    "I can't Mary! I'm a servant!'
"And I'm the King's ward's sister! Look at that, we are all human!"
    "Mary!"
"Hush up then!" I gave a little curtsie. "Come on! Dance!" I laughed
I simply twirled and my black dress turned into a circle that moved everyone around me. It was very large, so everyone was in the cornered around each other, until I finally stopped and broke into a jig.
The Lord Montagu danced with me first possibly to stop me from embarrassing Uther. Uther taught me to have spunk, so he can blame himself.

ooc: im updating and skipping to after the feast bc sweg lifeeeee 5ver

    -Mary DeGrance-

Finally the feast was over. The dancing wasn't as horrible as I thought it would be, but I had still wished if it could have been over sooner.

I walked through the cold corridors, past Gaius and Merlin's place. The sleeping mist. I had been having trouble falling asleep, so Gauis said he could fix me a quick potion to help me fall asleep. He only told me to pick it up when I can. I knocked three times at the door, when Merlin answered.
    "Mary."
"Hello Merlin. Gaius made made me a sleeping potion I believe."
    "Oh, yes."
He walked over to the table behind him, covered in books, herbs and bottles. He scrambled to find the right one, accidentally knocking over a book called Guide to witches and wizards. I picked it up, looking at the page it had opened up to.
    Fire magic.
"Here you go," he stuck out a purple green liquid in a bottle. "Just a few drops on your pillow and you'll fall asleep quickly."
"Thank you," before I lost my confidence, I pecked a kiss on his cheek. "Goodnight, Merlin!" I shouted as I left.

When I got back to my chambers I put the bottle on the table to the left of my bed. I took off my black dress, draping it over the intricately decorated chair that sat near my vanity. I put on my nightgown and climbed into my bed. With four-posters it created a nice box almost, suitable for sleeping. It's like you were enclosed but perfectly accessible.
I put three drops of the potion on my pillow, and fell asleep instantly.

ooc: THERE IT IS UPDATED. YAY ROMANCE.

    YAY SEDUCE.

that probably sounds really weird. oh well.

    -Mary DeGrance-
"Yes I did. Strolling the castle are you?" I raised an eyebrow playfully, and just as quickly put it back down.
"Just have a good night's sleep, Gwen! Do what you like, just sleep well!"
