Saber reared and slid to a stop to avoid trampling Romani. Paris leaped off and quickly shot three of the oncoming dogs. She raced over to where Romani lie and aimed a kick at the head of the closest dog. "Josh!" she screamed. "Help me get her onto Saber!" Her heart was pounding in her ears as she struggled to lift Romani's bleeding body out of reach of the dogs. "Ash!" Paris yelled over the rumble of the fighting.

Paris breathed a sigh of relief to see Romani (relatively) safe from further harm. She reached down and ran a hand over her lower leg where she had been bitten. Her hand came away sticky with crimson blood. She bit her lip in frustration and wiped her hand across her jeans. "Ash?" she called. "Where exactly is that bridge you mentioned?"

    haha sure:)

Saphira slowed her pace and looked around. "Camp is just down the trail, the lowest part of the valley." She trotted down to the small clearing. A knot formed in her stomach. "Where is everyone?" she wondered aloud. There wasn't a wolf in sight. She felt her heartbeat quicken. Why would they have left? Especially without telling me first??

Paris froze, as did her horse. She took each step with immense caution, darting forward with her eyes trained on her feet as she ran. Saber took long and slow strides, just enough to keep up with Paris as they crossed the deteriorating bridge.

    Okay. back to the thread.

Saphira flattened her ears to her head. She darted forward without answering Twi's question. She stumbled through the climb into the cave that was once the medicine den, her legs shaking. A small whimper escaped her lips. The bodies of four wolves lay cold and bloodied strewn across the dirt. She growled and clenched her claws in frustration. She approached the nearest wolf, a tawny brown male with long, thin legs and pointed ears, a warrior by the name of Kirtahn. Eclipse padded up next to her and gently nosed the wolf's mangled body. He met her eyes briefly. He's been dead for a while. he managed to tell her without saying it aloud. She nodded and turned away. "So they're back..." she mumbled under her breath. Saphira looked out over the camp, able to see the bloodbath in full from this height. She counted 11 wolves dead, though the ground was stained with the blood of many more. She cursed and turned back to the others, muttering angrily to herself. "I think we might be in for some fighting." she growled. Her sapphire eyes were cold and calculating, already planning their next move.

"No, but I do happen to own the territory you are standing on." Saphira said to Kira, her voice calm, but her eyes angry. She looked over at Twi. "I appreciate your offer, but until I find my father, there isn't really much to do but wait. I wouldn't want you tied up in this mess."

Saphira nodded to Whitestorm, a sad smile forming at her lips. She watched them leave, as the sun followed suit. She and Eclipse sat in silence until darkness cloaked the camp. He pressed his head to her shoulder, sensing the overwhelming emotions that were finally starting to take their toll on her. Her eyes were an empty grey in the silvery moonlight. Eclipse's ears flicked toward the entrance to their territory. The tall silhouette of another wolf appeared between the trees. Go, Saphira warned. Eclipse nodded and darted off into the rocky side of the valley. The tall wolf approached Saphira. She stood to meet him. He was white, but not the same silvery white that seemed to radiate from Saphira's fur. His pelt was thin, unhealthily so, and it was a pale ivory in color. His eyes were startling. They were the dull, lifeless pink of an albino wolf. Saphira stood up straight, trying to hide her apprehension. She nodded respectfully up at the wolf. "Father," she started silently. "Why...?" her sentence was lost to his fiery gaze. She was suddenly aware of the piercing presence that surrounded him. His mind wasn't the comforting swirl of thoughts she came to love in Eclipse. It was dense and suffocating, as if he could hurt her by simply being there. A familiar cold and clammy sweat covered her body, sending painful memories between the chills. She concentrated on blocking him out, building walls around her thoughts and emotions. She knew he possessed her skill. She blinked, trying to steady herself, guarding her mind from his prying eyes. Never before have I been defied in my own thoughts. His words echoed through her head, and a smile twinged at his lips. Saphira swallowed hard. Perhaps your skills were weakened over time? she replied lightly. Or perhaps someone has found a way to hide that which she does not wish me to see... he growled. She raised her lip in a cautious snarl and focused entirely on the mental connection between them. She closed her eyes. Years of careful, secret practice in this art had to come into play now. She fought the mental restraints and pulled forth her darkest memories, concentrating on the emotion. She forced them to his thoughts, feeling the overwhelming fear suppress him. She smiled, watching his eyes grow distant. He shook his head violently. You can't defy me. He snarled. She laughed, a cold, edgy sound. That's what you think.

    gah, that was long.
    Ah, the benefits of telepathy:)
