[justify][sup]"If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward." These words, spoken by the esteemed Martin Luther King Jr., are what I plan on living by if voted into office as the Vice President of the class of 2016.
Hello, my name is [name here] and, as said previously, I have decided to run for the Vice President of the class of 2016. You've probably seen me around the halls and most likely, I've been in one of your classes. If I haven't met you, then I guess I should say hello now and that it's great to meet you. I'm not going to be cliché and say I'll do things that are unrealistic and crazy. All I want to do is assure you all that our class's needs and wants are met, as well as get to know my classmates better. I want everyone to look back on the junior year and think "now that was a year to remember".
So I know I am not nearly the most popular person in this school, but even though I am not, I attempt to connect with the most people I can. Sure I have average height, average looks and may look like an overall average person, but actually I'm not as average as you may think. I try to stretch my horizons as far as they can possibly go and envelop as many different subjects and topics as I can. This helps me become friends with as many people as possible, and not think of one single student as 'different' or 'standing out'. Because everyone to me is equal. Everyone has the same possibilities in life and, if they work hard enough, can achieve every goal that they hope to achieve.
I believe that everyone should feel welcome in this school and never feel threatened or scared. As our great President Franklin Roosevelt once said, "there's nothing to fear but fear itself." As our high school careers have progressed, I've seen groups of friends made here and there. But I'm hoping, not to break up these groups, but to create ties between students that had once been so different that they didn't even think about speaking to each other. I hope to make our interactions positive ones, and I hope to see everyone waving to each other in the hallways one day as if it is everyone's birthday. And even if waving seems like to much, we can compromise and turn everyone's frowns upside down. Because even the smallest smile or the lightest compliment can raise one's spirits and turn a bad day into a great one.
Now, I actually thought of not running this year since we are practically halfway done with our high school lives and going into junior year. But as the last two years passed by, I noticed one small thing with the student body: we don't have a voice. And that is the main reason why I'm standing here, presenting my speech and probably looking a bit ridiculous. But it's never too late to change that. And what is a class government without its peers helping it along the way. It isn't our choice in what to do with prom or the fundraisers we do. It's your choice. It's your voice that we represent, and I plan to represent it to the best of my ability.[/fancypost]
