History: I always did look at the world differently. Or at least, different from my father. He always thought the best way to go was to keep your head down and don't complain. I thought you should stick your head out for those weaker than you. Me and my dad always fought. Not through mouth, punches were thrown. I then started taking many martial arts at once for self defense. When my little sister, Juniper was born, she had a fascination with gas masks. I then nicknamed her 'Gasmask.' She always liked that name. Well anyway after the radiation took over the world my dad and mom died first. I took care of me and my sister from then on.

"Come on Gasmask." I said hurriedly. I wanted to get to the market before all the good meat was gone. I didn't want to get the infected meat. I pushed past the civilians and towards the market stalls. I looked at the meats and saw that the best ones were in market stall 32 today. I grabbed some and put it my bag and gave the man working the stall 12 bottle caps.
"This looks good huh?" I asked. I continued walking to the fresh water and grabbed 6 bottles of them. I paid 18 bottle caps and continued to leave the city with Gasmask at my heels. We left and saw as the guards took down three mutants. By the time we got home I entered our small shack and started cooking the meat on our stove. I gave her a bottled water and asked,
"Not as bad as last time huh?" before taking a swig of water.

"You know...I've been thinking. Maybe we could move to the city. You always seem to act as if you hate it here." I said, eating between sentences, "I think you might like it. In fact I've been saving some bottle caps for it. All it takes is your word and then, POOF, were gone." I remember when she was little and loved that.

"I know you don't but think about it. In the city we'd get the best meat, the best water. You might even make a friend. But remember, it's your choice. When i went exploring a few days ago i also saw a tiny town out in the east. City or the east, your choice." I said, chewing down the delicious meat. I finished my plate then salted and wrapped the rest of the meat to keep it fresh.
"You know, I'm only thinking about what's best for you sis." I said, trying to cheer her up.

"You know what. It's your ch-" I began to say, stopped by someone kicking down the door, "Sis get down!" I jumped the table, wrapped my hand around his throat, slammed him against the wall, and held one of my knives to his throat with my free hand.
"You chose the wrong place to rob." I said as I jabbed the knife through his throat, smiling as he struggled against my grip. Eventually his body went slack and i let him go and sheathed my knife.
"I'll get his caps, you strip the other valuables," I said quickly, "Anyway it's your choice. City, east settlement, or make or own."

"I was hoping you said that because guess what? I bought that house you wanted near the city! It dropped to 2000 caps and i snapped it up! Wanna start packing?" I said excitedly, hoping she would be happy. That's all i ever want, for her to be happy.

"Well not anymore. At the market i had someone give me something, a brand new Desert Eagle!" I said, handing it to her. I wrapped my arm around her and smiled, grabbing my weapons and extra clothes.
"Let's go." I said, walking out the door and towards the house.

I opened the door to the house and presented it. I walked around and noticed it was almost night.
"Hey Gasmask, I think it's time for you to settle down and go to bed." I said sadly, knowing that if she slept now she wouldn't know what's happening next. I ushered her in slightly and closed the door.
"Good night." I said through the door.
When i thought she was asleep I left the house and went to the city. I opened a door and saw that who i was meeting was already there.
"Alright, my weeks pay. Come on." I said, grabbing the money i earned from hunting for food for a rich man. I went on home, hoping Gasmask didn't follow me. After all, our father was a hunter.

I entered back into the house and into his room. I sighed as I fell on the bed. I closed my eyes and began to fall under the sweet closure of sleep.

Hearing Juniper enter the room I said,
"Hey. I know you can't sleep sometimes. You can lay down with me if you want." I gently took off her gas mask and brushed off some of her hair.
"At least try." I said , smiling.

"Oh i know you love it but you and I both know it makes it hard for you to stay asleep. Come on." I said. I closed my eyes again and went to sleep.

Closing my eyes, I fell asleep again. In my dream, it was before the nukes dropped, before everything. I was running to my martial art class, and i was late. CI rushed through the street as cars rushed around me. I was happy again.
