a white, long-haired cat emerged from the den holding a thorn in her mouth. "Sorry." she said. "A young kit stepped on splintered branch, and I had to pull it out." "I-who is this?" she asked curiously, staring at Icekit. "and where did she come from?"

"Here," she said. "Let me get you a herb." she raced into her den and brought out a strong smelling herb. "This should help." she nudged them to the kit. "Be careful, though." she warned. "It's quite bitter." Then she purred with amusement, "They can knock you off your paws if you're not expecting it!"

Crystalstone watched as Snowkit attempted to fly. She was content with who she was, but deep down inside, she wished she too had elegant wings which she could spread and survey the snow-covered land. She looked at the kit with admiration.

Crystalstone stared in disbelief. "I-I uh," she stammered, lost in thought. She had never had to treat a blind cat before. She had treated cats with broken bones, stomach aches, and even a cat who was choking. But a blind cat? She had the slightest idea. "I don't know." she finally said. "I don't know what to do!" She stared at the poor kit, feeling as helpless as Icekit was.

Crystalstone knew that there was no herbs, berries, seeds, or anything to treat blindness, but she was determined to do something. "Well-I," She said awkwardly. "I don't know much about blind cats, but there is still a possibility that your sight will return." She hoped this news would lighten the kit's spirits.
"I could take care of you, if you'd like." She meowed. " You know, I could tend to your needs until..." She trailed off, then realized she might have scared the kit leaving the last words blank. "Until you can see again." She quickly finished.

Crystalstone then realized when Icekit spoke that she had completely forgotten about Icekit being blind. "Err-" she meowed awkwardly. "Is there anything you would like me to get for you? I have some seeds to help with any pain if you'd like." She offered.

Crystalstone noticed the sleeping kit. "That is very interesting." she said, trying to stay as hushed as possible. "I think we should let her rest." she signaled Snowkit with a flick of the tail to exit the den. Crystalstone padded outside her den almost completely silent and she too dozed off as glistening snow began to fall upon her thick, white, pelt.

Prologue: After a devastating sickness tramples Mountain Clan, a clan of cats that lives on the highest peaks of mountains, the clan leader Miststar dies. Froststep, the deputy of the clan, takes her place. Although she is determined to be the best leader for her clan as she possibly can be, Froststar is still unsure about taking on the tasks of the leader. She made her deputy Fernleaf.

Froststar lay silent in her den. she had just sent Morningstipe, one of the Mountain Clan's female warriors on evening patrol along with Deadclaw. She still wondered why Starclan had chosen Miststar. Why not any of the other warriors? Why not herself?

Crystalstone tossed, turned, and mumbled restlessly until finally peace greeted her and she drifted off into a deep sleep.
For the moments she tossed, she was worrying about Icekit. She one wished she had a kit, but Medicine Cats had always been forbidden. Now that Icekit's heath was in danger, this feeling returned. Eventually, Crystalstone calmed herself and came to her senses. That was when she slept.

Morningstripe and Deadclaw padded along briskly, enjoying the evening patrol. "Hold it." said Deadclaw. The large, orange tom stopped in his tracks. "What is it?" said Morningstripe. Then, she knew why he stopped. "I smell cats." she replied before Deadclaw got a chance to answer. "Not from Mountain clan." said Deadclaw, lowering his voice, realizing the unfamiliar cats were close by. They began stalking the smell until they came to a group of bushes. Morningstripe peaked through a gap in the bushes to see a she-cat followed by two kits. The wind was blowing onto there faces, scattering dust into there eyes. At least that meant the three cats couldn't smell them. "How do you want to handle this?" she whispered to Deadclaw. He didn't reply. She looked where Deadclaw was sitting. He was gone. Then she looked back through the bushes. "DEADCLAW!" she hissed louder when she saw that the long coated warrior had raced ahead and was already confronting the three cats rather harshly. "Who are you?" he demanded. "Why are you in Mountain Clan territory?" Deadclaw was a strong and bold, yet sensible warrior. Morningstripe silently wondered why he had to jump out into things like this without thinking about them first. Morningstripe padded up to the strange cats and meowed politely, 'Hello, what brings you here? And please, excuse Deadclaw's behavior." She shot Deadclaw a stern look. Deadclaw snorted in disgust. He didn't care who was in the territory. He just wanted them out. "Yes," he awkwardly replied. "What brings you here?"
