    Brackenkit | Kit | Tom

Brackenkit started as Lakefrost moved up to him. Quick as a mouse, he moved to stand behind her, head ducked for cover beneath her tall, adult legs.

"Yeah," he mewed shiftily. "I need you to hide me, Lakefrost. Please, Mother is after me."

He looked up to her, leaf-green eyes wide and wet with fear. This kind of scene was a typical practice between himself and Dappledsun. Though they were mother and son, they had an antagonistic relationship at best. It didn't help that the poor kit's father was long gone, disappeared into the rogue-lands he had come from and most likely unaware of the blood relation he had spawned unwittingly. Though the fact of that was neither here nor there at the moment.

    Dappledsun | Queen | Shecat

Dappledsun shot out of the nursery with a ferocity in her expression. Her eyes were the same leaf-green of Brackenkits, but instead of his fear they shone with a tense anxiety that masked something hidden, something dangerous. When she spotted Lakefrost and then Brackenkit hidden behind her pale flank, a shiver of shock ran through her. She quickly threw up barrier to mask her emotion, and the tight-lipped frown she had been wearing knit into an awkward grimace below her staring eyes. It several ways she mirrored a snake poised unblinkingly, but then that was her resting expression.

"Lakefrost, please don't pay him any mind. He's just a kit still for now," she mewed.

    Brackenkit shivered fearfully.

    Dappledsun | Queen | Shecat

"No problem," Dappledsun quickly mewed. "Brackenkit was just being anxious about his rebirth and running about the camp."

Unceremoniously she shot daggers through her eyes at Brackenkit. He flinched and hid further, and Dappledsun couldn't help the twinge of sorrow that ran through her. She wanted to comfort him, but she knew that he would never let her show any sign of affection that intimate with the way he was. That was probably the hardest part. Of all emotions, this insecurity was the most outwardly buried of them all. Her face remained a stiff grimace.

    Brackenkit | Kit | Tom

"I can speak for myself..." Brackenkit muttered indignantly, but it was lost among to the hard-headed ears of the adults surrounding him.

    Dappledsun | Queen | Shecat

Dappledsun nodded to Crowstar and let him walk off. Once he was out of earshot, she turned to Lakefrost and let her face relax to try a different approach.

"Lakefrost, I promise you that it's just nerves," she mewed, nodding to Brackenkit. "He'll be ready for the ceremony tonight, I'll make sure of it. I'm sorry you had to put up with his antics this early in the morning." She let a small smile cross her features.

    Brackenkit | Kit | Tom

Brackenkit huffed and came out from behind Lakefrost a bit. "She's not gonna 'prepare me.' She probably thinks I should run away, go back to the old ways. It's all Stoneclan this and Stoneclan that," he mocked, growing bolder as Dappledsun flinched in reaction to his aimed words. "You can run away, but I'm gonna be an apprentice. You can't stop me."

    Dappledsun | Queen | Shecat

Dappledsun held her tongue and nodded at Lakefrost's words.

"Yes, he will be, won't he?" she mewed.

This time when she motioned for Brackenkit to come stand by her, he only lightly resisted. He held his head high as he strode towards her, but his eyes still held something vile in his temperament. They really were mother and son after all.

Sighing, Dappledsun turned back to her fellow warrior and bowed her head a bit. "Sorry for the trouble again. Now then, I heard there was a new deputy about to be elected?" She quickly changed the topic.

    Brackenkit | Kit | Tom

Brackenkit was still feeling overly satisfied by the effects of his words. He held his head high thinking he had spoken nothing but the truth. Every cat had been thinking it, so he had simply given voice to their thoughts. See what Dappledsun thought about that...

She would do nothing. She never did anything. Even when people spoke loudly in front of her, she never said a word. He couldn't stand it. Silently, he would continue to seethe to himself.

    Dappledsun | Queen | Shecat

Dappledsun thought for a moment, glad to be focusing on something unrelated to the rebirth.

"I think Dovesun or Duskcloud are sure candidates," she mewed, eyes brightening. "What about you? Would you like to be deputy?"

    Brackenkit | Kit | Tom

Brackenkit shifted uncomfortably. He wanted to go check on Alderkit and Rushkit, but something kept him rooted in place. Maybe it was simply his imagination, his nerves getting to him, but he stayed put regardless. Glancing over his shoulder, he waited eagerly for the siblings to awaken and poke their heads out of the vine entrance.

Explosions were banned, so the terrorists were quickly discovered. For the Imagineer it was a difficult journey fraught with danger and bad joke that everyone for some reason thinks are funny, but in the end they stood in the reviewer penthouse, a stirred not shaken drink in hand and an earpiece in their ear. They planted the EMPs.
