    In her dainty, manicured hands, my eldest sister held a delicate bouquet of flowers the colour of ocean foam. She stood alongside her mother, who held a neatly wrapped gift with a pretty bow.     Brinley, my step-mother, took everything a bit too seriously, and made sure we dressed what she thought to be 'appropriate', wearing formal attire, beautiful make-up and extravagant hairdos. Her red-nail index finger pressed the buzzer to the neighbouring house. She did a quick hair fix in her pocket mirror, and put on her signature pearly, bedazzling smile.


    Her absent green eyes floated as she overlooked her two daughters, and if you were close enough, you could see the tired creases she so fiercely struggled to iron with creams. Her distant gaze reached me, and one of those creases were defined. "Sage," Her condescending voice hung. "Wipe the lipstick from your teeth." She scowled, her dead orbs swept over me in a disapproving manner. "Stand upright, and smile more. You're prettier when you smile- you have mascara on your cheek. Sage..." Brinley deflated, disappointed with my lack of perfection.


    My step-sister gave me emotionless side glance, before looking back at the door with her plastic nose in the air. Before Brinley could remove the faults in my appearance, the front door opened with a soft creak, and instantaneously, our display grins shone, not quite meeting our eyes. My step-mother introduced ourselves, and both my step-sister and myself outstretched a hand for a shake. Brinley was too superior for handshakes.

    IC: I felt slightly comforted once the friendly face emerged from behind the door, and felt my shoulders relax. Almost immediately, I could point out all the faults in the lady's appearance, due to the constant criticism of my step-mother and step-sisters privately. Then again, I myself didn't look my best either.


    We waited for the woman as she went to introduce her son. While her back was turned, in the corner of my eye, Brinley pursed her lips, her smile dropping. Low mutterings where mumbled under her breath into my step-sister's ear, and she sniggered, bringing her chubby fingers to cover her mouth. She glanced over at me, and instantly her expression diminished as she once again held her nose in the air, flicking her hair back. She always tries keeping me in my place; at the bottom. But I know I'm not so low on the charts, so I copy her pose, widen my superficial smile despite the aching, and act as though I hadn't been affected.


    Dmitri was introduced, and a certain sparkle lit up in my step-sister's eyes. I silently scowl, and swallow the lump in my throat. A soft, feeble "Hi." trickled from my lips, and I seemed to wither as I subtly moved behind my step-mother who elbowed me as punishment, but didn't do anything else, as causing a scene was the last thing she wanted to do.


    Brinley chuckled, eyeing me secretly as she replied, her voice smooth and rich like honey. "Absolutely. They still have so much to learn." I had a silent feeling; I had a deep wound, and I felt as if dirt was being rubbed into it. It stung.


    Brinley and my step-sister handed them the gifts, and after realizing I had dropped the smile I was supposed to wear, I found my gaze meet Dmitri's. I felt as if I had been caught; I was a deer in the headlights. Although, to him, he probably didn't realise what I had done. Gathering my strength, I managed to flicker a little half-hearted side-grin.

    Basic Plot:
    Haeli Quinn is a clumsy, well-known babysitter in her small town. Almost out of school with nearly-perfect grades, she's just about ready to face the world. But, when she is asked to take care of a rich family's son, little did she know he wasn't just the ordinary kid she had to look after; in fact, he wasn't a kid at all. He was homeschooled, and a ball of trouble.

    Appearance


    I stood there, goggling in awe at the mountainous building towering before me. It was at the very least, intimidating. A lump formed in my throat, and I had a feeling that if my unlucky fingers ever so grazed the intricate mansion, it'd tumble to rubble, despite the impossibility of that happening.


    I demurred knocking on the large, wooden door with a heavy handle- my, I don't even know what those things are called. I took in a deep breath, and gathered my courage. My hand balled into a fist, and I knocked loudly against the wood. As soon as I did that, I felt an urge to flee. Just before I was able to take several steps back, a few more, and hop on my bike, the door swung open and at the threshold stood a beautiful woman adorned in jewelry. She, like her home, was intimidating.


    "I suppose you're Haeli Quinn? The baby-sitter?" I nodded feebly, adjusting the straps on my bag, trying to look as intimidating as her. It didn't work. "Welcome, welcome. My son is inside. He's not the easiest, but I take it you have experience. Just supervise him... You don't need to do much."


    "Alright, ma'am. I'll have him sorted. When is his bed time? Any allergies?"


    "Please, call me Cassandra. You don't have to worry about those, Haeli. I have to run. See you in a few." Cassandra slipped past me and strutted toward the sleek, black car awaiting her. She stopped in her tracks, "Oh, and make yourself at home." She smiled, waved, and closed the tinted window.


    Hesitantly, I peeked my head through the door, and the magnificence overwhelmed me. I was being paid a high salary for this arrangement, and I got to hang around in a mansion.


    Sweet.
