Reed, a muscular reddish Tom, saw Echo running towards him. Her eyes were excited and there was a smile on her face, could it be? "Clan cats?" he asked. reed's eyes were lit with hope, he needed some fur to soften his bed and claws to serve as trophys. Reed was brutal. He collected claws and teeth as trophies and eh littered his den. His den was an old dis-used garage. 2 cars were on raised platforms just within jumping height on either side of the building, one red and one blue. The red one was merely a shell, a trophy cabinet for the young killer. But the blue was fitting with stuffed leather seats and a carpeted floor. He sat in it now. A cord hung from the ceiling that, when he jumped from the tip of the bonnet of the red car, Reed could pull down and the fold down door to the open garage would go down and the lights come on. Shelves of tools stood against the metal doors and spare parts were all over the place. A combination of car parts and bone. And that was how Reed liked it. Jumping down from the car, he met Echo outside.

IC- The new apprentice, Darknesspaw's, apprentice ceremony had just finished and Lionfur and the new apprentice were standing by the entrance to camp. Lionfur had had many apprentices and could tell by their actions in the nursery what their strengths and weaknesses would be. Darknesspaw was a skilled fighter, for a kit, and would soon turn into a formidable fighter. She seemed loyal and brave and had a lot of potential. Lionfur looked down to the apprentice who was half his height and meowed in his deep tone, "Well, Darknesspaw, you are now my apprentice. During your apprenticeship you may end up hunting when your feet ache so badly you wince when you move, you may end up fighting when your blood flows freely from your body so much that you cannot see your fur and you may end up spending so long removing ticks that the stench of mouse bile will never leave your fur. I will make you trudge through rain and through snow, through the thickest muds and the slimiest marsh. You may hate me, curse me, beg me. But I will always be there for you, understand?"

"Good," meowed Lionfur "So now we begin training. First, I will show you round the territory. Most mentors wait until the next day, because usually apprentice ceremonies are around sun high, like your's. However, we will do it today. Sowe will have to be quick. Follow me." he padded into the forest. Waited for Darknesspaw, then took off running. He went half speed, which was still a lot faster than the average new apprentice. This was always his first test: how quick they were or how much stamina they had.

She's fast, thought Lionfur. He ran faster. Suddenly, he burst through some bushes and stopped. They were at Sunningrocks. He waited until Darknesspaw had arrived, "Not bad," he meowed "For a kit." He leapt to the top of the tallest rock I a few bounds, then looked down on Darknesspaw, "This isSunningrocks, there," he flicked his tail towards the river, "Is the Riverclan border. Go on, take a good sniff."

Lionfur purred, "Definately!" he leapt down to stand next to Darknesspaw and meowed, "That's because Riverclan eat fish. They can also swim, which gives them an advantage in some battle near water, but they are slower because they grow fatter on fish." he padded across the border, "They've been here recently. If we run, we might catch them and you can see what they really look like. Come on, follow me." Lionfur ran down the border, his tail streaking out behind him. Suddenly, the fishy scent got overwhelmingly strong. 4 Riverclan cats were padding along the border. Lionfur halted and instructed Darknesspaw to do the same. They hid behind some bushes and the golden Tom whispered to the apprentice, "Stay silent, I have a funny feeling about this." Suddenly a mouse darted in front of the patrol and ran into Thunderclan territory. "Follow it," a brown she-cat instructed a smaller grey she-cat. Probably an apprentice, thought Lionfur. "Darknesspaw," he whispered, "When I say 'now', walk, and I mean walk, don't run or charge or jump, just walk, out over to the patrol." he waited until the apprentice was over the border and meowed, "Now." stepping from behind the bush, Lionfur strode over tithe Riverclan patrol, who looked wide-eyed at Lionfur.the apprentice dashed back over the border and cowered behind the patrol. "Hello, Minnowpelt, what is your apprentice doing over the border?"
    "Er-"
"Just as I thought,"he unsheathed his claws, "Go now and I'll feel no need to tell our leader about this."

Lionfur purred, "Maybe I could make an exception for someone as nice as you! But you'd better go, you know, I'm Riverclan through and through and we have a tendency to warn our clan when intruders are around." he turned and plunged into the river.

"Don't worry, tomorrow we'll start battle training," Lionfur meowed, he looked up, the sun was low in the sky and the sky itself was no longer blue, but turning pink, "Hurry, I would like to get back by night-fall." The 2 cats took off running. Lionfur led Darknesspaw to tree-cut-place, then tall-pines. "There can be plenty of twolegs around here, particularly in the day, thought it is rich in prey like mice." next, they travelled to snake-rocks. They didn't venture too close, as it would be hard to see the adders, though Lionfur warned Darknesspaw of them, "Some cats question my methods of taking my apprentices round the territory near sun-down, because they will not be able to fully see parts of the territory. However, I find it useful, as then there are no interruptions and you can fully take in scents and sounds. After a small run, they had reached the Great Sycamore. "One day, I will teach you to climb the great Sycamore." Finally, they ran past camp to the Sandy Hollow and Owl Tree. At the Owl Tree, they stopped to hear the owl hoot and saw it spread it's great wings and fly in search of mice, "You may or may not heard the story of one of our great leaders, Owlstar. They say his hunting skills were as sharp and precise as an owls, he was silent. If you have not, get the elders to tell you. Now, perhaps it is time for a challenge. THe sun is almost down, so your sight is limited. Climb to the 3rd branch and you will be free of Elder duty for 2 days. You must use balance and instinct, watch." Lionfur leapt silently onto the first branch and proceeded to manoeuvre around and leapt onto branches until he quickly reached the 3rd. Endless nights of practising his tree climbing had rewarded him with immense skill.

"Well done!" purred Lionfur, who was standing next to her still in the tree "You won't have to experience mouse-bile for another 2 days." He gracefully leapt onto the 2nd branch, then to the floor, "Now come down! It's harder than going up."
