Stripetail woke to hearing a weird noise from outside. She looked down to make sure that Poppykit and Poolkit were safe.
"Foxes in the camp!" yowled a cat from outside.

Moorpaw twisted over and belly raked Poolshade, but the apprentice wasn't strong enough. She had the advantage of weight and strength. With one paw, she lifted him up and knocked him off his feet.

"Oh, no!" wailed Poolkit.
"Shh," Stripetail wrapped her tail over her kit's mouth. "Go to sleep. It'll be okay."

"No! Brackenfur!" an elder wailed.
Lionblaze ran in, but it was too late. Brackenfur was dead.

Snowpelt walked into the nursery and plopped down in her nest. "Where's Poppykit?" she asked.

Poppyfrost ran over and gently dragged her mother away from Brackenfur's body.

Dapplepelt leaned into a bush and found an unsuspecting vole. With a single bite on the throat, she was able to kill it.

the fox threw his head backward in shock, knocking Lionblaze off. Stunned, he pulled himself up and ran over to help Cherrypool, who was struggling with a fox over three times her size.

Moorpaw lay winded on the ground and Poolshade leaned over and tossed him in the air, landing on Nightcloud's back and tossing her into Ivypool.

With a nod, Snowpelt acknowledged her thanks, and curled up in her nest.
