[justify]The thin, chocolate tortie shape of Chasm had been hidden in a clump of ferns, and it was now that she chose to reveal herself. The she-cat went straight to the little kitten, sympathy and pity clear in her hazel-brown eyes. "Oh, honey." she said quietly, crouching to the kit's height. "That doesn't matter. No cat your age can do either of those things. But we can teach you, you know. Of course, if you'd be willing to learn."

[justify]Well, she wasn't exactly old enough to be a mother, but if that was what this kid wanted, fine. "Yeah, I suppose." she mewed with a smile. "You'd get a mentor, and they'd teach you all about hunting and fighting."

[justify]"Um...Estellia?" Chasm's voice sounded unusually crisp and clear in the big, empty room. She gazed at her former mentor with big, confused eyes, head tilted slightly to the left. She opened her jaws a crack, expecting to find the taste of catnip hitting the back of her throat. Sometimes, her father had behaved like this because he'd eaten the foul herb. To her mild surprise, nothing but the scent of the carnival and Elite cats flooded her senses.

The tortie padded across the room, holding the same, baffled expression. She took a seat and simply stared at the she-cat, tail curling across the floor.

"What are you laughing at?" The question was so innocent, so matter-of-fact, she almost felt like a kit. She watched Estellia carefully, a thought entering her mind: what if Estellia didn't want to answer? What if she held a grudge against Chasm for holding the position of Oracle while she herself was demoted? Oh, that would've been terrible. Hopefully, the former Oracle was willing to let the event pass.

[justify]One more cat to join the party. Chasm stepped up next to Roosevelt and Lady Midday, dipping her head in greeting to both of them. The tortie couldn't help glancing down at Roo's legs, wondering how well they were holding up. "Glad to see you on your feet again." she murmured to the tom, but kept her eyes on the new cat.

[justify]Chasm came to the meeting late, but was quickly able to pick up on the conversation. The Oracle Trainee glanced at Violet uncertainly. Thankfully, she herself had no one to guard her--it would've been awful to have someone on her tail every second of the day. At the moment, she didn't have much to say, and decided to keep her mouth shut while her roleplayer's muse went down a hole.

[justify]Chasm watched as he came closer, the whole thing way too dream-like to possibly be real. "You don't understand." the tortie shook her head. "I left. I was disloyal, I betrayed the whole Elite...and you." Chasm's voice rose slightly, anger at herself boiling beneath her fur. "I should never have done it, I'm sorry. You can't trust me."

Her speech suddenly stopped. She couldn't go on. Heart in her throat, the she-cat turned on her heal and stalked out of the room, only half-hoping that Burn would follow her. But why would he? She'd left without warning, and he therefor had no reason at all to trust her. Hot tears welled up in the she-cat's eyes, but she blinked them away furiously, refusing to cry.

[justify]"I'd actually suggest Jiyu as a Guard." Chasm mused. She didn't mean to contradict anyone, she was simply in the habit of speaking her mind. "And about a new Oracle Trainee...I'd just like to point out that Violet is the only one[?] who'd be able to train us, and she's got several Trainees to deal with already. If you really want to do that, I might suggest promoting one of the Trainees."

[justify]"Congratulations, Sola." Chasm murmured, crouching next to the Guard. Her hazel brown eyes swept over the kittens, smiling to herself. Ah, how she wished this could be her some day. A happy mother with a mate and kits. But that wasn't possible, was it? She was far too busy with her knew job.

"Who's the father?" Almost painfully, her eyes pulled away from the kits and up to Sola's face.

[justify]Apparently out of nowhere, Chasm's head popped from a clump of ferns. She blinked in surprise and nearly stumbled backwards, having almost collided head-first with Lady Midday. "Oh, I'm so sorry!" she gasped, ducking back before coming out a moment later. The chocolate tortie shook a few excess leaves from her pelt, then flicked her tail in greeting and dipped her head.

"I didn't know you were here. Mind if I join you?" Well, the truth was, she had known they were here. She'd been out hunting, but when she heard them chatting, she was sure it had scared off all the prey within a mile. Deciding her hunt was a lost cause, she'd gone in search of them, and found them a little quicker than she thought she would.

[justify]Chasm needed a break from the stuffy Oracle's den, and what better way than a hunting patrol? The chocolate tortie padded up to join the two, dipping her head in greeting. Robin she recognized, but the cat organizing the patrol was new to her.

"I'll come." she said, taking a seat in the shade of the ferris wheel. "Anyone else coming, or would you say three's good enough?"

[justify]Chasm followed in silence, listening as the other cats spoke. Sometimes, the best way to get to know others was to listen, and keep your mouth shut. The tortie parted her jaws, tasting the air for signs of prey. "Don't wander too far." she murmured "We can hunt on our own, but stay within hearing range of the other cats."

[justify]Well then why did he leave? The question was on the tip of her tongue, but she swallowed it back, and came to a halt. Chasm said nothing, only stared at her old friend. Memories flooded her senses, of them exploring the tunnels together, meeting up with Zeles, arguing, laughing. Daemons, she missed him.

Without hesitation, the tortie leaned forward and buried her face in his shoulder, the tears flowing without control. She was being an idiot. He was right, she should be happy. She was, she just at that lingering feeling of guilt. Hopefully, he'd look past that and still see a valuable friend inside of her.

    [fancypost bgcolor= ; bordercolor= ; borderwidth= 0px;]
[justify]What a change. Chasm could easily remember the days when Burn was insecure, and she had to be the one to comfort him. Things were different. The tortie lifted her head for a moment and rested it on his shoulder, eyes closed. Did he still want to be her friend? It was hard to tell...ah, no it wasn't.

"I missed you so much." she whispered, her voice quivering dangerously, as if it might fall and break.

[justify]Chasm reluctantly pulled back from their embrace, brushing away her tears with her tail. There were so many things going on in her head, so many emotions clashing together, it was overwhelming. She wasn't upset with him...there were just so many things to think about.

The tortie blinked her hazel eyes and looked up at him, realizing in shock that he was taller than her. Oh, he'd grown so much. "You don't have to tell me." she said quickly. It wasn't that she didn't want to hear, but maybe he didn't want to tell. "I mean...I've got some explaining to do, too."

[justify][font=georgia]Chasm raised a non-existent eyebrow, only mildly shocked by Estellia's words. She was happy...because Avrigon...was dead. The tortie was tempted to ask if the former oracle was feeling alright, but she kept her mouth shut. Maybe there was some good reason Estellia was so...happy.

"Er, right. Did you, um, have an argument with him or something?"

[justify][font=georgia]As if on cue, Chasm poked her head out from behind the popcorn machine. She hadn't been there for long--just long enough to amuse herself by watching Ben and his new toy. Let's see, there was Violet, Misery, Ben, and Jiyu. That could only mean one thing: they were giving the assistants the news. Perfect.

The chocolate tortie stepped out into the light, dipping her head in greeting to all four. She only found it mildly annoying that Jiyu would be listening in on the Oracle's business, but Misery didn't seem to have a problem with it.

Chasm didn't know Misery that well. If anything at all, she knew the other cat was an Oracle Assistant as well. She hadn't even seen her before, except once or twice in the Gravitron.
