August immediately disregarded her guilty apology. It certainly wasn't Terra's fault that he'd gotten himself hurt. She still seemed genuinely worried for him and appeared to be willing to help. He released a shuddering breath that he hadn't even realised he was holding. It felt unnatural to him to ask for aid, but this was a unique situation.

August flinched when he felt Terra take hold of his shirt again. He almost instinctively jumped away for a second time but stopped himself. Instead, he answered her with a nod and a quiet, "Go ahead."
He helped her to slowly take off his shirt, mainly because he was still hesitant about letting her see his wings.

All too soon, his wings were fully revealed. They were covered in feathers of a rich golden brown that faded to caramel coloured tips. Seeing as it was too late to hide them now, August very slowly unfurled them to either side to reach their full 15 feet wingspan. However, he winced before he reached it, with a pain at the base of his left wing.

"Is there a bruise or a cut at the joint?" he guessed, unable to see for himself. His voice was surprisingly calm and level. He only hoped Terra was taking it as well as he seemed to be.

    Name: Hex
    Gender: Male
    Age: 17
    Sexuality: Heterosexual
Personality: If taken at face value, one would consider Hex to be a fairly normal teenager. He tries not to take anything too seriously and will often cracks joke, sometimes at the expense of others and even himself. However, behind the front, Hex is always wary. He is careful around those he doesn't know too well and places trust only in those he deems worthy. He watches everything with calculating eyes, always making plans in case of a bad turn of events. He is also very protective over Dana, who he views as a sister even though they are not related.
A major factor of his personality is his avian DNA. In his line of experimentation, Hex's mind was attached to his avian side much more than that of any other mutant, as well as having additional avian mutations. His instinctual actions are often similar to that of a bird, right down to making squawks and cooing. He also has something of a fear of cats or feline-mutants, since cats and birds are natural enemies. This is the only side of himself that Hex finds himself to dislike and avoids joking about, as he finds it is something that separates him from anyone else, even other mutants.
    Description:

    (Without the sword)
Hex is tall and lean, although somewhat muscular. He sports dark brown, almost black, hair that is just long enough to cover his grey eyes. He has brown feathers covering his back and the back of his arms, stopping before his wrists. His wings are also brown, with a 15 feet wingspan.
Family: None, but Dana is like a sister to him.
Powers: - Regenerative healing - Can heal wounds on himself or others. However, this requires a lot of energy and will leave Hex feeling weak or passing out.
    - Bird Vocals - Can create bird calls, cries and sounds, and from this can understand and communicate with birds and, to an extent, most animals.

    Name: Dana
    Gender: Female
    Age: 16
    Sexuality: Heterosexual
Personality: When you first meet Dana, you would class her as a tomboy in seconds. She jokes around and would never be caught dead doing anything considered 'girly'. Quite the opposite in fact, she often pushes the boundaries to see what she can get away with, sometimes acting a bit rash and without thinking. However, deep down, Dana does have a rather sensitive side and if you get to know her, she will show it. It just may take a little while to get there though. The only times she may ever show much affection in public is to Hex. Even though they aren't related, she sees him as a brother and cares very much for him.
Other than that, he only weaknesses are a blindness in her left eye, and a crippling phobia of deep bodies of water. A word to the wise; when it comes to either of these, Dana will act in either one of two ways; anger or tears. This is entirely dependant on her mood so tread carefully...
    Description:

Dana is a naturally beautiful girl, although she hides it behind a tomboy persona. She has a tall and thin, yet healthy looking figure. She is blond, with long, flowing hair that floats in the breeze. She has bright blue eyes that are both pretty and fierce. Even though her left eye is blind, it is barely noticeable, unless you are looking at her very closely. Her wings are made of pure white feathers, with a 14 feet wingspan.
Family: None, but Hex is like a brother to her.
Powers: - Pyrokinesis - the ability to conjure and control fire

    Hex:

The sound of fresh conversation stirred Hex from his room. He turned of the quiet classic music that had been playing - gotta love some Beethoven - and investigated what sounded like a new voice. His suspicions were correct when he saw a new boy, with bright red hair. He seemed to be pretty relaxed, unlike Hex who was instinctively suspicious of everyone he met.

He turned to Alex and gestured to the new guy. "Fresh meat?"

    Dana:

"Geez Hex, he can hear you, ya know?" Dana said with a grin, appearing from behind him. She could never understand why he was always so hostile around new people and strangers, even if it had helped them in the past. But Dana hated to be unfriendly.

"Ignore him, he just hates people," she told Maximus jokingly, causing Hex to roll his eyes.

August appreciated Terra's gentleness as she help him take his shirt off and examine his injury. It seemed to him like he stood there for ages, completely exposing his wings. This was such a huge, defining part of who he was and yet he was never able to let anyone know, until now...

And now that the bridge had been crossed, August felt oddly relaxed. It was because of Terra and how he felt he could trust her here. She had been nothing but honest and nice, a rare occurrence for him. August glanced over his shoulder and noticed Terra's face was covered in a bright pink blush. Her utterance of the word "Beautiful," made August feel some heat in his cheeks as well. He certainly never had his wings described like that before.

The warm, light feeling on his back from Terra's hands relaxed August again as she located the injury. Still, he felt a little awkward standing shirtless with his wings completely exposed with a girl - a rather pretty one at that - feeling his back. Her description of the cut seemed reassuring apart from the mention of stitches.

"I don't suppose you're any good at that stuff?" August asked, "I've got a couple of first aid kits somewhere that I...acquired."

A red flag immediately came up in August's mind at the mention of a doctor. Certainly out of the question, right? Getting any authority involved had to be a bad idea. One look at his wings and the law would be involved, and then the government. He'd probably be put right back in a lab and experimented on again. Whose to say that the lab he'd come from wasn't secretly run by a government anyway?

Despite these thoughts, he mulled over Terra's reasoning. August didn't want to make her do anything she wasn't comfortable doing. Not to mention that, even with his body's genetically enhanced healing abilities, it was important for the injury to heal correctly or else it may cause future problems.

August nodded, as if in defeat, with his wings slowly retracting to fold across back.
"You're right. A doctor would be best," he agreed, "But I need to warn you that this will cause a lot of attention. Police will almost certainly get involved, so if you want to avoid that, maybe you shouldn't come with me..."

It was painful to say that. August surprised himself with how much he found himself caring about Terra's wellbeing. He didn't want to get her in trouble.

Terra's reluctance to leave him was actually relieving to hear. Not for the first time did August consider her comforting her presence had been for the last couple of days. He found himself smiling a little at her despite the circumstances. He watched as Terra spoke her thoughts while absentmindedly twirling a piece of her bright copper hair. This distraction caused him to take a moment for her words to actually sink in.

Again, he found himself agreeing with Terra's reasoning. He wasn't quite sure how the law worked in regards to this 'patient confidentiality' since he'd never been to a doctor before. Those horrible whitecoats at the School did not count in his mind. This actually seemed like a good idea, or at least as good as this idea could get. The best of a bad situation.

"Yeah, it's a shame, he nodded sadly at the mention of people's fear of new things or things out of their understanding. "And no, you're not like that at all. You've been great with...ya know...all of this. Thank you."

August soon donned his shirt again, before grabbing a pre-packed backpack from a cupboard. "There's a hospital further into town, about a ten minute walk. You ready?"

"I'll answer your questions. I owe you that much. Just...not now," replied August. He certainly wanted some time to consider how to explain himself. That could wait until after they had taken care of his injury.

August had one last sweep look over the room to check there was nothing important left behind, a habit of his. It was a ruined shell of a flat with almost nothing in it, so the obvious answer was no. Besides, the backpack he had just taken was full of useful gear - money, clothes, some limited first aid pieces.

"Alright, let's go." With that, August head out the door and down the stairs. It was a little surreal to pass through the lobby in which they had just fought for their lives only minutes ago. Soon they were back on the street again, heading into town this time. August wasn't quite sure what to make conversation of here or whether he should. This whole situation still felt rather awkward to him. Instead, he stayed quiet and thought about what could happen at the hospital in the hope of planning ahead.

    Dana:

"Stop being so lazy Bryless," Dana called back to her, although she approached the door and opened it. "Alex, you sh-"

She stopped in her tracks when instead of Alex, she saw a very young girl with a pair of black and white wings unfurled.

"Oh hey there you little cutie," welcomed Dana, crouching down to her height. She gave the girl a comforting smile. "Why don't you come inside?"

    Dana:

"Hi Haley, I'm Dana," she replied softly, closing the door behind them and following the young girl inside. "Now don't be afraid of the others, okay? We're all friends here."

Hearing that Max was hungry and the arrival of Haley, Dana asked, "You guys want some food? I'm sure Hex would be happy to make some for you."

    Hex:

Hex cast the new entry a less than settling look but one warning glance from Dana made him hold his tongue. He didn't complain about her offering his cooking skills, since she was rubbish at anything other than toast.

    Dana:

Glad that Haley wasn't simply shying away from her or the others, Dana nodded back to her reply. She also smiled up at Raven and Aster, answering, "Alright, sounds like food is a go. Hex, go give Alex a hand and make it."

She turned back to Haley in order to keep her comforted. "So, you wanna sit down and talk? Maybe tell us where you came from and how you got here?"

    Hex:

"Didn't hear a 'please' there," he muttered under his breath, followed by a wry grin. Without complaint, Hex joined Alex in the kitchen and helped with the burgers.

"So, where'd you fly off to?" he asked in a plain tone.

    Hex:

To 'see a friend' wasn't the vague answer he had been hoping for, but Hex didn't push the issue. Although he was one for trying to take in as much information as possible, he knew when to draw the line on personal matters of the flock.

Alex's sudden question was curious, momentarily making Hex look away from cooking the burgers with an eyebrow quirked. "Happy? I know Dana's thrilled everyday to just be around other avian hybrids. Why?"

    Dana:

Giggling to herself, Dana stepped over to Aster and Raven. She playfully flicked both of them on the ear, despite Raven being the same age as her.

"Both of you behave in front of our new guests. You don't want to give the wrong impression," she said jokingly.

(Hey, that's okay. Patient is a virtue that I have in excess :P )

August simply listened to Terra as he walked, content with just taking in her words. He was glad that she didn't want to push for answers. His history was both strange and dangerous. To tell anyone could mean putting them at risk. Still, something inside of him wanted to tell her, to let it all out.

His thoughts pulled away from this when he grunted a little as he shifted his backpack. The rubbing agitated the wound on his back, causing him to slip it off and hold it in his hand. August didn't feel the wound was fatal, but the idea of permanent damage to his wings was unthinkable.

He looked at Terra in surprise when she mentioned needing ID. Having never been to a hospital before, everything was completely alien to when in terms of paperwork and procedures.

"Oh," he replied in quiet contemplation. August didn't fancy playing dead, or giving himself a worse injury on purpose. "I guess flashing my wings would probably get their attention...right?"

Almost immediately, August rejected Terra's offer. Perhaps it was pride, but he wasn't willing to make her carry his bag just because it was a little irritating. However, her mention of possibly having it confiscated made the decision obvious. He wordlessly slipped it off and passed it to her, giving only a "Thanks," when she took it.

As for getting their attention, it seemed a little display of his wings was in order. It probably wasn't the best plan in the world, but August couldn't think of anything else given the circumstances and his lack of knowledge as to how all of this worked. Doubts started to enter his mind as to whether or not a hospital was still the best option...

As if on cue, the large building came into sight. Not allowing himself further time to change his mind, August practically marched in through the sliding doors. His shoes squeaked on the smooth, polished floor as he head towards the clean reception desk. He picked out nurses and doctors around him, wearing long white coats, as they head to their places of work. The smell of antiseptics wafted over him...

August suddenly came to a complete stop in mid-step as if he had frozen.

(Was this a normal symptom of shock? She wasn't sure. At least if it was, they were in the right place. That actually made me laugh xD
By the way, tell me if I'm going too slow or too fast for your liking. I like to put in plenty of time and detail in 1x1 RP's, but sometimes it's boring to just keep saying 'They walked, and walked.')

With his eyes closed tightly, countless images crossed August's mind. Memories from the School, horrors of experimentation, days trapped in a small, cramped cage. Goosebumps rose from his skin as he recalled the chilling cold of the metal gurneys. In his mind, the hospital's smells matched the School's sickly stench of cleaning agents and medicines. The same white coats and beeping machinery surrounded him now.

Terra's whisper brought his attention back to the real world. August's eyes shot open as he slowly turned to face her. Fear - the deep and terrible kind of fear - was in his eyes, and he was powerless against it.
"I-I...I can't..." he stuttered, his broken mind unable to bring himself to speak properly.

Underneath his top, his wings itched to break out and take him away. They shifted in a way that could easily be noticed if someone were looking, but August wasn't even conscious of this. His brain was fighting between fight or flight modes. The logical part of his mind was desperately telling him to calm down, that he needed help from the hospital.

August focused on Terra again, and barely whispered the words. "I...d-don't know if I can do this..."

(Okay, only checking you were happy with it, didn't want to be too fast or slow. Also, I will probably reapply for the Scarlet Latter RP, although I might do so with a new character)

Terra's response took August by complete surprise. She didn't seem to falter as she suddenly wrapped him in a hug. He initially stiffened, standing awkwardly still, before he hesitantly returned the hug. Her warmth seemed to help dispel some of the chills over his body, with her words being exactly what he needed to calm down. As they broke apart, August was again taken by surprise when she held his hand. That familiar warmth remained.

For the first time in years, August didn't feel alone. This wasn't something he had to face on his own with no support. Terra was here to help, and her presence seemed to be enough. A genuine smile - weak as it may have been - came to his face.

"Thanks," he said quietly. August turned to look at the reception desk and took a few deep breaths. Then he stepped towards it. The women sitting behind the counter had a bored expression on her face and barely gave them a glance as they came up to her.
"Can I help you?" she asked, in a tone of voice that made it clear she wasn't exactly thrilled with her job.

August cleared his throat and glanced at Terra, feeling her hand in his, before answering. "I need to see a doctor. I have...a serious problem."
    "Do you have an appointment?"
"I...urm...don't need one?" August replied, uncertain in what he was saying. Judging by the receptionist's expression, that clearly wasn't it.

Even more uncertainly, August spun in place so his back faced her. He quickly look around to see if many people were paying attention to them before lifting the back of his shirt up to reveal part of his wings and injury for just a moment. He quickly lowered it again and looked back to her, only to see an expression of pure bewilderment of her face.

"...Let me just check," the receptionist spoke as if she had seen a ghost as she moved over to the far wall and picked up a hospital telephone. August sheepishly turned to Terra, rather self conscious of himself.

    "I think that worked..."

(Do you want to rp the doctors?)

The wait as the receptionist made her call felt tense. August stood silently, trying to make himself look as casual as possible and most likely failing. At Terra's mention of a child seeing his wings, he sought him out. The boy was looking right at him, his eyes boring into him and making him feel uncomfortable. August quickly looked away, at least comfortable in the knowledge that Terra was right; hopefully no one would believe the kid.

The arrival of the nurse then destroyed that comfort as she seemed just as horrified at his presence. He didn't exactly like her being there either; her clean, white uniform and short blonde hair reminded him of one particularly nasty whitecoat at the School. Without a word, August obeyed and followed her down the corridor, never looking the woman in the eyes. He was glad that Terra was right next to him. It was comforting to have her here, her warm touch by his side.

Before he entered the room, August mentally took note of the exits nearby, any CCTV cameras and the guard who seemed to be stationed in the area. He stepped inside with Terra, again surveying the area he was in. He looked at her again and gave her a small, grateful smile. The nurse's questions caught August off guard even though he had anticipated them. He didn't have a name or know the exact date of his birth but he recovered quickly.

"Orion Summers. August 15th 1996," he stated flatly, before adding, "Look, I...I'm not on any records or anything so...I think maybe I should just...see a doctor soon, ya know?"

As if to emphasis the point, he shuffled his wings under his shirt to make an audible rustling of feathers. The action made August wince as an unexpected pang came from his injury.

    >>Axel Keaton<<

    >>Gender<<
    Male

    >>Age<<
    23

    >>Marital Status<<
Heterosexual - Single, open to crushes

    >>Qualifications<<
Phasing - Axel can pass through through solid matter, such as walls, as well as allow attacks to pass through him. This occurs by his atoms shifting through the spaces between the atoms of the object through which he is moving. Axel can phase her clothing along with herself, and through practice has learned to phase other objects, like weapons. However, he cannot shift through other people or electric weapons, such as a taser, as organic material and electricity disrupt the shifting process.
Telepathic communication - Axel has the ability to communicate mentally. This does not allow him to infiltrate people’s memories, but he can read people’s immediate thoughts and speak them mentally. He can also, to an extent, protect his own mind from being read or controlled. Those more powerful than himself in telepathy could wear his resistance down.

In terms of training, Axel has had vast experience with firearms and is an expert marksman. He specialised in long-range firearms, making him a very skilled and capable sniper.
He is also highly trained in hand-to-hand combat and martial arts, specifically in Krav Maga.

    >>Attitude<<
At first glance, Axel is someone who is blunt, although he prefers to think of himself as honest. His sense of humour is very dry so never take his sarcasm or comments too seriously. While in no way objected to romance, he dislikes a lot of social conducts. Rituals of courting, the obsessions of fashion, and the desire for material possessions are all pursuits that Axel doesn’t even pretend to worry about.
Instead, Axel holds himself to his own set of principles. Morals rarely come into his decisions, just practicality and realism. He will work to make a goal of his achievable and will stop at nothing until it is done. Over the last few years, his determination has slipped, something which he now intends to get back.
At the moment, he doesn't particularly think highly of himself, which stems from a lack of self-purpose, something which may develop over time with the others at the Scarlett Letter.

    >>Previous Job Experience<<
Axel was created in a laboratory in Colorado, along with several other similarly mutated humans. They were designed and created for a project by an organisation not too dissimilar from the Scarlet Letter, called the Black Fist. Supported by shadowy figures of various governments, the purpose of the project was to breed and train elite agents that have no trace of existence. Axel’s purpose was to undergo missions such as espionage, bodyguard protection and assassination.

Axel’s entire childhood and teenage years were spent rigorously training with the other experiments. Even in the early stages, there was dissension amongst the ranks. Agents rebelled against their orders and there was anger and violence against themselves and the trainers. The project was almost terminated on more than one occasion, but the Black Fist were determined to make this costly project worth it.

When they agents were young adults, they began to go on missions. To put it simply, they were terrifyingly effective. The overall success rate of their missions was high, Axel himself ranked highly among the agents. However, after the first few years of success, the project spiralled downwards. Agents began turning rogue and causing severe trouble for the Black Fist. Some even started targeting the anonymous government backers. The remaining agents were locked down back at the laboratory, only making tensions reach breaking point.

A riot broke out and in the chaos, a raging fire burnt the lab to the ground. Axel escaped with his life although not uninjured. His history from this point consists of several years of hitchhiking across the country, finding work wherever he could. With his skills deteriorated over time, Axel had all but resigned to a meaningless existence. Then a manila envelope appeared…

    >>Physical Characteristics<<
Light skin, grey eyes, dark black hair, with facial stubble.
Regular build, some muscle and fat. Burn marks on his right arm and back. While he is naturally good-looking, he allows his appearance to be scruffy and ill kept, seeing it as unimportant. As someone completely uninterested in fashion, Axel typically wears tatty clothes.

    >>References<<
None. Open for romance with any female characters interested.

    >>Questions, Comments, Concerns<<
My plans for Axel are to have him improve himself over time; his skills and his mindset. He will become more focused on training, trying to achieve the levels of his peak from his past, and then surpass them.
Equally, he will become more rounded and ‘human.’ He will learn to interact with others, make friends, and possibly love.
Of course, ultimately, his decisions could lead either down a path of good or evil…

August watched the nurse as she gave her final comment and left. He let out a sigh of relief, glad that the interrogation seemed to be over. He tried not to pay too much attention to his surrounds; the hospital machinery, the shiny white walls, the bright luminescent lighting above them. He tried to ignore any thoughts about the School.

He could only give a half chuckle and mutter in agreement with Terra as he stood awkwardly in the room. It made him wonder how she was thinking about him. Before this, she had been thanking him for helping her, as if he were some brave saviour. Now he was practically cowering in fear at the sight of a syringe. Focus August, dammit! You're better than this.

As the doctor entered, August managed to meet his gaze, keeping his own expression. He didn't shake the doctor's hand when he offered it, remaining still. At least he was acting professional under the circumstances. August nodded when Dr. Evans questioned his injury. "Yes. There's a cut by the joint, I think."

He made himself let go of Terra's hand and stepped over to the door. He made sure it was closed and checked one last time that there were no windows or cameras before slow taking off his shirt. He turned to face away from the doctor and Terra, before extending his wings. The feathered appendages stretched out, their golden brown colour clear under the lights, fading to carmel coloured tips. His right wing reached its full length, about 7 and a half feet, but his left wing along extended halfway before the pain at its base caused August to stop. He cringed as he felt some pain and a fresh trickle of liquid down his back. He guessed blood.

August felt naked as he stood in plain view of Dr. Evans and Terra. Granted, he was standing shirtless in front of them, but it was a feeling of complete and utter exposure. Almost no one had seen his wings apart from those from the School. It was a part of himself that he kept secret, hidden from the world. Now his wings were out in the middle of a room in a hospital.

Keeping silent as the doctor made his observations, panic crept through August at the mention of permanent damage. Losing the use of his wing was absolutely unthinkable. Not for the first time that day, August was incredibly thankful for Terra supporting him. In more than one way, she had effectively saved his life. He looked over at her and offered a smile, unable to tell from her expression how she was feeling.

Getting back to the matter at hand, he was glad when Dr. Evans stated he would do the stitches himself. August made sure to take in his report and suggestions.
"I, urm, have accelerated healing," August admitted, almost sheepishly, "So that may only take a few days, or a week...maybe, I don't know..."

It felt a little bad telling the doctor about an area that he was certainly far more qualified in than August was. Still, the idea of four weeks healing seemed far too long to him. From experience, he knew that less serious wounds like cuts had healed in a day or so. Besides, a doctor would always estimate a much longer time to heal, to be safe, right? Whatever the case, it was important information that made him feel even more alien to the two other people in the room.

"Oh, and one condition; do not give me any anesthetic. Not even local anesthetic," he practically demanded, almost aggressively, "I don't care if it makes having the stitches more painful or if it's against your protocol. I just...can't have that...please."

Seeing Terra smile and thumbs up made August grin. It seemed she had a knack for cheering him up. However, he was a little confused to notice a red blush on her cheeks. Was it warm in here or something? He couldn't feel much heat himself, although he wasn't wearing a shirt which could explain that...

His attention was taken again by the doctor as he spoke. The word 'specimen' made August cringe a little, but he made no comment. Dr Evan's was a professional so his diagnosis was not meant in any sort of personal, insulting way. At least, he was pretty sure it wasn't...
As for his advise, August wasn't too keen on staying in the hospital or returning again to have the stitches removed. He wanted to leave here as soon as humanly - and avian-humanly - possible, if not just because of nightmarish memories he was surprising from being in the hospital. He still could barely bring himself to look at Dr. Evans in his white coat.

"No anaesthetic and no restraints. I can take the pain, I've had worse," August said, although he decided not to elaborate on that statement.
As for Terra, he simply shrugged before addressing her. "I don't mind if you want to stay. You many not want to watch, although I'd...appreciate you being here."

(Forgive August's naivety. I like my characters to be oblivious at first :P )
