mammothkit squealed when he saw the snake. the little riverclan kit- a runt, despite his name- had only wanted a playmate. his little, blue eyes went round as he stared at the snake, clueless as to what it was. all he'd seen was how it attacked his clanmate. the little grey kit couldn't think straight enough to turn around and run and alert someone; instead, he stared at the thing, fearful, but also unable to keep his well-known curiosity at bay. what on earth was the thing?

another embarrassing squeal erupted from the little tom as the snake spoke. he tilted his little gray head, alarmed and perplexed. his little white forepaw kneading the dirt, he replied, remembering that it was important to be polite. "oh... good to meet you..." his voice was squeaky, but his curiosity was audible. mammothkit's tail flicked back and forth as he tried to figure out, without making his lack of knowledge too terribly obvious, what a snake was exactly.

"so what are you doing here?" the little tom asked uncertainly, worry welling up in him like the lava of a volcano about to explode as he realized he should probably be running away. he had, after all, seen the snake attack... who was it? oh, yes, clovepaw... mammothkit didn't know the apprentices well, but he though he could remember hearing from nursery conversation that she was having kits. actually, wasn't he supposed to be in the nursery now? he couldn't drag his curious, blue gaze away from this "snake" now.

Mammothkit laughed, a high-pitched sound that drove his brother crazy, his bright, blue eyes sparkling with amusement. Crouching down without any thought to his safety, this little kit suddenly found himself staring up at the snake. It was enough to make his laughter more hesitant, seeing the snake from this new perspective. "Really though," he mrowwed, determined to keep his flash of fear from the snake so as not to defend it, "whatcha here for?"

Mammothkit smirked, his face taking on an "I told you so!" grin. He'd known that wasn't really the snake's intention. Another thing occurred to the kit, as he seemed to forget about the earlier attack on his clanmate. "You're from SunClan?" His mouth formed an O of surprise and fascination. All he'd ever heard of SunClan were tales and stories, but now that he had a reliable source... "Hey, I'll make you a deal! I'll go catch you a big piece of prey if you tell me all about it!" Mammothkit couldn't be concerned at a time like this with the fact that as a kit he had no way of getting this promised freshkill.

mammothkit's jaw dropped in horror as he realized his clanmate had been in pain, and all the while, he'd been too intrigued by the snake to notice or care. backing up, the little tom couldn't decide: should he run as advised, or should he stay and talk with this terrifying, yet fascinating animal? so far he hadn't been hurt, but what if the snake was just waiting? the other kits always told tales of awful villains who waited until the perfect time to strike. the snake had said it wasn't really trying to kill, though, right? mammothkit couldn't make up his mind. he was still standing around, trying to make up his mind. confusion was muddling his thoughts, and he just couldn't decide.
