The path was all trees. They were leaned over, the tops connecting to form a canopy that blocked the light from hitting the ground. It was a wonder how any sort of plant life grew. An odd magnetic golden glow shone from the end of the path, warm and welcoming. It pulled at those who found themselves wandering towards it. People who wandered down the path claimed that they would sense something following them, the light being all that kept it at bay.

As the light got closer, the sound of soft music sounded, filling ears. Was it…calliope? Perhaps…The light seemed to open up like a door, welcoming people in, swallowing them. The soft calliope became louder as the carnival came into view.

The Ferris wheel towered over the carnival, and from the top, you could see the town that rested on the other side of the woods. The carousel runs nonstop, waiting for someone to step in line with a ticket, the haunting music echoing across the grounds. But the Freak Show…The Freak Show feels as though it towers over the whole Carnival. Small as the entrance may be, the banners litter the area, always reminding the patrons of the things that lurk in the shadows, waiting to join them.

When creepy things start happening on the grounds, the patrons begin to wonder, unsure of why they are so attracted to the seemingly forever empty carnival. Why do they return day after day? Why does time never move on, and why do the workers never age…? Is there something deeper to this carnival…? And more importantly;

Why don’t they ever remember leaving…?

Nobody is sure where the freak show originated, or how it came to be. One night, flyers popped up all around town calling all those able to witness the magic of the circus. There was an eeriness to the showgrounds but for reasons nobody could ever explain, the circus was [i]mesmerizing. One by one the guests filed in through the gates. Men, women, and children alike; all came to witness the freak show.

No questions are ever asked, and the patrons eagerly empty their pockets on vendors and souvenirs. The circus was complete with games, prizes, snacks and rides; and of course the main attractions.

Although the show was enchanting, there was an unmistakable haunting shadowing the park.
What was going on behind the scenes. . .maybe this freak show was even freakier than first thought. . .

Amira welcomed Remington's embrace happily, nuzzling her face into the crook of his arm. It was nice to be here with him and for a moment it granted her a feeling of sweet serenity. It felt to her almost like the calm before the storm. It was a bittersweet feeling, knowing how difficult today's events would come to be. It wasn't long until Remy brought up the Elena situation, and how exactly they were to break the news to the pack. Mira simply nodded along to his words in a silent agreement. Ripping the band aid off as the alpha said was probably the best solution. Everything was making her anxious, and she wished to God that she and Remington could stay cooped up in bed all day, but she knew that wasn't the case.

"And there was another thing I wanted to discuss- Athena." At the mention of her name, Amira cringed internally. It was no secret that the two females had tension between them, but where she was concerned there was no question as to who was alpha and Amira would have no problem telling the beta to back down. There would be no debate on who led this pack; if need be Amira would go to any means to stand her ground. She stayed silent, but lifted her head to face him and looked him in the eyes and listened intently to his words. "I know you two have had problems in the past. What do you want me to do? I'm going to talk to her after this, but I have to say. Athena has the habit of reading too much into what you do or say towards her, although I think that from time to time she just wants to feel included. Though that doesn't excuse her behavior and I'll be letting her know that if she doesn't stop I'm going to make Kaycee beta since Atticus doesn't seem interested in Athena anyway. What do you think?"

Amira didn't reply at first as she was trying to gather her thoughts. It may be true that Kaycee would be a better choice for beta, but this was a position that was decided upon from before birth. How could they just remove somebody's birth rank? Not only that but just as Remy and Amira had grown up learning the rules of an alpha, Atticus and Athena had grown up learning how to be betas. It would be more challenging than simply appointing a new beta. When Amira spoke her voice was quiet and raspy; she was still partially asleep and had not fully come to terms with consciousness.

[b]"Remy, I appreciate your concern but with all respect to you I can handle Athena." She took a deep breath and centered herself as she sat up. "Besides if anything, making Kaycee beta would only heighten the tension. It might cause her to lash out and that's the last thing we need. Especially right now with all of this Elena business." Her voice has strengthened as she deepened her conversation with the alpha, rubbing her eyes and yawning.

Remington rolled out of bed and began making his way towards his bedroom door and with reluctance Mira followed suit. There were murmurs of conversation rising from the downstairs accompanied with the occasional bout of laughter or 'good morning'. From the number of voice she heard on her way into the kitchen, it was obvious that the alphas had been the last to join the group.

Most of the pack had already gathered in the kitchen, preparing their morning coffees and snacks. The kitchen was filled with morning voices and the smell of steaming black coffee and a sweet tinge of cupcakes from the night before. Amira gave her greetings and headed straight for the coffee machine. Although she barely even poured the cream into her coffee before a car revved outside causing Remington to dart out of the house. His pack link was going cray, fused with anger and confusion. There was only one thing that could've made him react this way and Mira didn't even have to see him to know he was back.

Alexei; the rightful alpha of the pack. He was the first born therefore he should've been the alpha male. That would mean that technically, she and Remy's brother were rightful mates. The mere thought of that disgusted her and made her want to throw up, just his presence here made her almost as angry as Remy. What could he possibly want? If he was hereto claim the pack as his, that would threaten both of them and Amira would protect Remington's rank until her last breath. She followed Remy out of the house and didn't object when he strangled him against the car. Her teeth sharpened and a low growl resonated in her throat; she stood a few feet behind Remy, her bright eyes burning with vexation.

"This isn't your home anymore Alexei," She shouted over the sheets of rain that began falling from the sky just moments earlier and she didn't try to hide the rage in her voice.[/fancypost]

By the end of the conversation Amira was shivering uncontrollably, but this didn't mask the irritation her expression held towards Alexei. Of course, there was a part of her that understood the pain and why exactly Remy allowed him to stay,given the Elena situation. It was for Remington's sake only that she kept quiet during the debate, knowing that if she exploded it would only result in mayhem. Although she came to terms with Remy's decision, she couldn't help thinking about how inconvenient his timing was. The two alphas were about to announce the biggest pack news since their coronation in less than an hour, and now they had Lexi to keep an eye on as well? The chaos contributed to her irrepressible shaking, and her breathing was heavy with frustration. There was too much going on already and it was even 10 o'clock in the morning.

Perfect, she muttered sarcastically in her thoughts. She ignored Alexei's casual jab at her and merely turned back towards the house. The rain hadn't let up at all and was continually pouring down in buckets. The soft pitter-patter of the storm usually soothed her nerves but today not even Remy could do much for her. This being said, she did not object when she felt his arm wrap around her and lead her into the house. Instinctively her arm wrapped around his waist and she drew herself in towards his warmth, welcoming it in the cold spring storm.

Mira tried not to sound too anxious to no prevail as she spoke. Her emotions were going crazy, and the least thing she wanted to do was be in a room full of people who were going to judge her on their decision. She stepped up onto the patio and wrung out her clothes the best she could before speaking, out loud this time, to Remington. "I can take Carnaxa with me. Trust me on this Rem, it's the best way." her gaze held his and she knew it well enough to be filled with worry and uncertainty. Amira was scared too, most definitely. Though it was ironic how she was only weary of her pack, not Elena.

She stepped through the threshold still dripping wet. Her hair had become a wringle-y mess and her complexion was red and patchy. Every so often, she couldn't help the soft achoo-achoo that escaped her lips.[/fancypost]
