Aspenfall took both kits in her mouth and carried them to the safe, fire-free place just outside of camp. She laid them down and curled up around them, determined to keep them safe.

Aspenfall wondered in the back of her mind what was going on with the rest of the clan but at the moment she focused on shielding the two young kits from anything that could harm them at all costs.

Aspenfall quietly mourned for her lost clanmates, somehow just knowing that they were dead.

Cloverkit wandered around the space, amazed that he was outside of the camp and no one was yelling at him.

Cloverkit scampered over to Larkstar.
"Larkstar? Are you okay? What happened?" He said, worried for his leader.

Aspenfall licked their heads, hoping the smoke didn't hurt them.

Cloverkit did his best to stay out from under Larkstar's feet because his mom was always telling him he needed to stop doing that. He wanted to impress Larkstar so he walked with his tail high as he looked around for his mother, making sure to keep pace with Larkstar to the best of his abilities.

Warmshine smiled and nodded to Sparkstar, who was already focused on a conversation with Tallspark. She lead the apprentices on a path toward Twin Mountains, where the prey was most abundant during this time of year.
She took several of the wraps from Sagepaw and carried them in her jaws, listening to her explanation of how they worked all the while.
"I can show you two where the squirrels like to hide. Anyway, do you two know how to catch them? This whole plan will be worth less than mouse-dung if you don't know how to catch a squirrel. All we'll be doing is giving them free food."

Berrypaw was bored, so he decided to go hunting by himself. He padded out of the apprentices den and made his way to the forest.

Aspenfall purred and licked Cloverkit's head, glad to see him. She had been worried sick about her son, but she keeps her focus on the task at hand, which was to protect these three kits.
"Aspenfall! We're outside of the camp!" Cloverkit mewed excitedly.
His mother grinned. "That's right. And no one's yelling at you for being out here, for once. Make the most of it Cloverkit, because soon we'll be going back inside the camp, and you still have a moon until you become an apprentice."
"Do you think they'll let me explore?" Cloverkit asked, overwhelmed by the unfamiliar sights and sounds that he'd been dying to know more about.
"Ask Larkstar if it's okay with him, but make sure you stay where some cat can see you." was Aspenfall's response.
Cloverkit bounded off excitedly after that, in search of Larkstar.
Aspenfall licked the newborn kitten's heads after that, her thoughts full of her own kit and of the others in the clan that she hadn't seen escape from the fire. She was worried about them, but showing it wouldn't do any good, so she just kept her attention on the three kits she was curled up around.

Berrypaw sat, hidden in some undergrowth, watching a mouse and looking for the right time to strike.

In a flash, Berrypaw darted out of the undergrouth and swiped a paw at the mouse and sent it flying through the air, and then slashed at it again, this time with claws. The mouse was dead by the time it hit the ground.

Aspenfall was alarmed by Hollypaw's actions, but she was more alarmed by Frostkit's wailing, so she purred and nuzzled her, hoping to calm the young kit down.
