  • Escaping the Penitentiary

    Information: Modern day. There is a secret government prison known only as the Penitentiary. The only occupants are kids who have unnatural abilities. This is their only home, but their only desire is to be free. The Penitentiary is not like normal prisons. It is almost like a regular home and they all have their own personal rooms, but they are constantly monitored and have restricted freedoms.


    Layout of Penitentiary: There is a hallway with furnished bedrooms linking to the multipurpose room. The multipurpose room, or the MP is where the captives spend much of their free time. It is also where they eat their meals. A doorway in the MP leads to an outside yard, where in good weather, the captives play sports and just get fresh air.



    Abilities:
    Water: They can control and shape water. They can only make it rain if they are outside and there are already clouds in the sky. They can hold their breath for abnormally long periods of time and are natural swimmers. They can also walk across the surface of slow moving water. They can freeze and thaw ice and snow.


    Plants: They can accelerate the growth rate and control all plants. It is extremely difficult to make plants (especially trees) move about as if walking. They cannot make plants grow out of thin air. There has to be an existing plant or a seed. They are natural tree climbers and gardeners. They have a knack for restoring life to withering plants.


    Fire: They can control the intensity of a flame. They can make fire appear in their hands and are resistant to heat. Initially they create fire by drawing heat out of sunlight or animate objects.


    Earth: They can create minor earthquakes or make rifts in the ground. They can control rocks, dirt, etc. They can make the ground around them rise and fall. They are generally very strong.


    Wind: They can summon up winds and control them. By controlling the winds, they can make themselves float in the air and create small twisters. If they concentrate, they can listen to the wind which will whisper about the things it has seen. They can send concentrated winds as a sharp blast.


    Animal: They can morph into existing animals (this does not include mythological creatures). They inherit the instincts and abilities of the animal. However, they can only stay in the shape of an animal for a short period of time. The size of the animal they morph into determines how long they can stay in the morph. The bigger the animal, the less amount of time they can stay in the morph. They can understand and speak to other animals without morphing into them.


    Mind: They can read the thoughts of others and send them telepathic messages. By concentrating on something, they can move inanimate objects without touching them. They cannot move people, plants, animals, bugs, etc. Extremely large objects are very hard to move.


    Space: By standing very still, they can turn almost completely invisible. Whatever they are wearing turns invisible along with them. If they move too fast, the invisibility charm fades. However by moving very slowly, they can move while retaining their invisibility. They can also pass through objects and walls (whatever they are wearing comes with them). They cannot pass through the walls and containing units of the Penitentiary.

    History: She is the daughter of a blacksmith from an outlying village that was destroyed by raiders. She is not a daughter of Elm.
    Other: She is one of the few survivors from her village. Her entire family was killed.

    I handed Evelyn another biscuit. "Here's another. Try not to burn this one. it's not like they grow on trees."

    I turned to Sheyanne, trying to multitask dealing with Eve and her burning habits and help Anne practice telepathy. "Okay, i'm thinking of a number between 1 and 10,000. see if you can read it from my mind."

    I looked down. the girl with messy black hair stood in the doorway leading to the bedrooms, watching Eve and Anne and myself as i soared up near the high ceiling. i concentrated, hoping Anne was still listening to my thoughts. "Well why don't you go introduce yourself then?"

    I could tell the messy haired girl was confused. She must not understand what this place is yet. i swooped down. Before i hit the ground, i focused on changing my form. I landed almost gracefully as my regular form.

    i stopped and listened closely. Yes, i definitely heard something. A commotion rose up the woods a little ways from my position. Checking that my katanas and poison arrows were ready, i headed in that direction.

    in my animal forms, i could still talk in English, but it was hard and my voice always sounded like a mix between human and animal. "Oh, don't worry so much Eve. i'm not going to hurt her!" i called down to her as i rose through the air.
