Paradisekit always tried to stay out of trouble, the cost of being in trouble was too much. But trying didn't always mean success. He was sitting outside of the nursery licking a sore paw. He'd been playing earlier and stepped on a thorn. It was small trouble but his paw still hurt. He watched as a tortie she-kit left the nursery. He wondered how she slept in so late. He was always up before sunrise. He didn't pay much attention to the other kit until she picked up a squirrel.

He hadn't realized how hungry he was until he saw that. He stopped licking his paw and went to snatch a small mouse for himself. He was rather small and kind of wirey and the mouse as small as it was would more than fill him up. Without asking he sat down next to the other kit and took a bite out of the mouse. He swallowed before he spoke, knowing it was rude to speak with your mouth full. If it was one thing his mother had made sure she taught him it was manners. "Good Morning," he meowed. "You want to play later with me?"

"Death?" Paradisekit repeated. "It's put on a dead cat before vigil isn't it." At that realization Paradisekit found a memory he'd suppressed, his father's death. His father had died only 2 moons ago, having been close to him, the kit had taken it hard. The smell of lavender had been there that night during the vigil, and the smell of it now brought the memory back more than anything. He carefully picked up the leaf and studied it. He wanted to remember it as it reminded him of his father.

He dropped the lavender back onto the pile when Perikit sank to the ground. He darted over to the other kit. "You okay?" he asked worriedly. He didn't really know Perikit very well but out of all the cats here he could relate to her the easiest as they were close in age. He didn't know what to do of course and he glanced at the medicine cats wondering if they would do anything.

Paradisekit had taken another bite of prey and when the she-kit spoke he grinned only to realize his mouth was full so he hurriedly swallowed. It was a rare day when Paradisekit woke up on the wrong side of the nest because the sun had woken him, he and Dapplekit seemed to be like day and night in that regard. He took another bite before he answered her.

Swallowing he shrugged. " How about adventurers! We can explore the camp and pretend we are exploring a new land," he suggested. Moss ball was only fun for so long and warriors he tended to lose most of the time. But he loved exploring as he was naturally curious. Only the other day he'd ventured into the medicine cat den out of curiosity.

Paradisekit made a mental note at what Aquariuspaw said about lavender. So it was used to cover up the smell of dead cats, stuffed noses and was there anything else? Tigerlily had said there were a lot of uses for it didn't she? How did they keep track of all the herbs and what they did. Lavender alone had more than one use!

Paradisekit glanced at Aquariuspaw. "Um yeah but what about Perikit? Can't you give her something," he asked sounding concerned. There had to be something in the herb pile that would help right? She wasn't dead or stuffy nose so Lavender wouldn't help and he didn't know any other herbs. Besides that was the medicine cat's duty he was just a kit...herbs were kinda cool though.

The cheerful kit didn't keep Tranceillusions waiting for long. He trotted into the den, his tail held almost straight up. He liked coming into the medicine cat den, it was nice and all the herbs made it smell good. When he had the chance he now brought in prey for either the sick cats or the medicine cat's themselves. He didn't bring anything this time though.

Spotting Tranceillusions alone with herbs lay out before him made him hesitate, but only for a moment. This seemed unusual. Still the kit's curiosity would win out and he stopped in front of the medicine cat. "Hi Tranceillusions, whatcha doing?" he asked glancing at the herbs.

Paradisekit slowly came forward. He seemed to realize something was different and he wasn't sure what. He sat down and curled his small tail around his small paws. He looked at the lavender for a moment then leaned forward and smelled it. "Oh that's lavender," he said. He'd only seen the herb once before, but the smell was unmistakable.

Why was the medicine cat asking him this?

Paradisekit finished up his small meal relatively quickly. "Great, we can start after we finish eating," he said. "Um sure. that is a big piece of fresh kill," he said. He leaned over and ripped off a piece to eat. He was already sort of full but he could eat a little more. He always seemed to get full on only a few bites.

"Where should we explore first? Warriors den? Elders Den?" he asked. He'd already explored the whole camp before but it would be so much more fun to do it with someone else. Usually he did it by himself. Most other kits usually wanted to just play moss ball. Moss ball was okay but could get boring after a while.

Paradisekit was confused by the sudden quiz on what lavender did. He had always been taught to respect others though and knew it wouldn't be polite to question now. The medicine cat knew what he was doing right? He glanced at his paws as he tried to remember what lavender did. As he remembered he looked up and grinned. "Hide the smell of death and um....help stuffy noses," he said looking proud of himself. He didn't notice the hard item the medicine cat had pulled close to him. He wondered if the medicine cat would ask about any more herbs. He hoped not. He didn't know any other herbs. Just lavender.

Paradisekit was surprised most kits wouldn't remember that. To him curiosity was only half the fun, you had to remember what your curiosity brought you to learn. He sat patiently expecting the medicine cat to quiz him on a herb he didn't know, but Tranceillusion didn't. What he said instead was quietly murmured but the kit heard it. He stood up and took a single step forward. "Me? Really?" he meowed surprise and delight mingled on his face in the form of a smile. "I would like to," he said feeling as though this was a dream and he'd wake up only to find out this never happened.

Paradisekit was elated as the reality of the situation started to sink in. "Alright!" he meowed excitedly and laughed at the joke. He was about to turn and run off to find Aquariuspaw then paused, turning back he stood up on his hind legs so her was more eye level with the medicine cat. He fell forward onto the medicine cat in what two-legs might think was a hug. He licked Traceillusions shoulder. "Thank you," he said politely. Stepping back he added. "Do I get to see Moonstone then?" he asked. His mother had told him medicine cat's went there to be accepted by starclan when apprenticed.

Paradisekit smiled. Cool so there was something different! He couldn't wait to find out. "Alright," he said happily then ran off to find Aquariuspaw.

The flame point kit darted into the back of the medicine den where the herbs were stored. She wasn't there to cause any trouble though. "Aquariuspaw?" she meowed. The apprentice wasn't there. Frowning the kit padded back into the main area of the den. "Aquarius?" he called.

Paradisekit grinned, he hadn't been called paw yet but probably would soon have that official. He had trned to face the apprentice. So that was where Aquariuspaw had been. Now that he thought about it he was hungry and wanted to eat, but then again he was too excited to. "I just spoke with Tranceillusions. I'm going to be a medicine cat apprentice like you!" he said excitedly. "He said you could help me find some moss and make a nest for me in here." The white kit had never really left camp and had no idea where to find moss to even make a nest.

Paradisekit wasn't so sure, but the medicine cats knew what they were doing right? He hoped Tranceillusions was right. He rather liked Perikit. "What were you saying about another herb?" he asked Aquariuspaw.

Paradisekit padded into the medicine cat den just in time to hear Aquariuspaw's words. He glanced curiously at whatever Aquariuspaw was doing wit the poultice. He wanted to ask and find out but he could tell the apprentice was annoyed and decided not to bother her. Maybe later she could ask what the poultice was, as she would need to eventually learn it, right?

"Hey guys," he meowed to the other kits. "Lets go play moss ball or you can talk outside," he added trying to herd the other kits out of the den with small nudges. "Let Aquariuspaw do her work in peace."

Paradisekit was more than shocked by the scene before him. He had entered with the other medicine cats as he was the newest medicine cat apprentice. He liked Perikit and was over joyed hearing his friend would still get to be a medicine cat apprentice. They would be able to train together! But what happened next was more than Paradisekit could handle. He yelped in panic and crawled under Tigerlily's paws for protection. His heart was racing and he closed his eyes not wanting to be here or witness the scene.

Paradisekit had her head in his paws trying to ignore the scene before him. He raised his head though when Perikit spoke though. He was still next to Tigerlily or more under her really. "Where?" he asked sounding very shaken. He didn't know if they'd get trampled or attacked if they tried to leave. If Aquariuspaw got away even for a moment would she attack Perikit and maybe him as well? Where was it safe? Before Paradisekit could even consider moving the worse scene yet unfolded and ended in the death of Aquariuspaw. Paradisekit whimpered and averted his gaze by burying his head in Tigerlily's fur.

Paradisekit looked up hearing Tranceillusions voice. Was this some kind of nightmare? Tranceillusions was Paradisekit's mentor or was. Now what was to become of him? Would Tigerlily train him instead, she did already have Perikit to train. "w-what about me?" the kit said somewhat softly. He wanted to know who his mentor would be now. Though the scene from before still horrified him and he avoided looking at the dead body.

Paradisekit nodded as the leader spoke. She didn't know the dog had been a medicine cat before or well medicine dog? That had been before Paradisekit was even born. As Tigerlily blacked out Paradisekit yelped as the medicine cat fell onto him. He had been under her, sort of hiding from the whole scene.

[ xD I was going to have Paradisekit not get hit but I thought it was more amusing this way. ]

Paradisekit slowly tried to pull himself out from under the medicine cat. With Perikit's help he managed to partially get out. When the medicine cat quote he stood up. He whimpered though as he put weight on his back hind paw. He had sprained his foot during that. He listened to the quick lesson to get moss and water but Perikit was faster to retrieve the needed items and Paradisekit's paw hurt now. he didn't say anything about it though because the leader's eye was in more need of help than his paw.
