[fancypost borderwidth=0px; height: 252px; width: 480px; overflow: auto;]It is believed by the Ferine that the world was once divided by fire and ice; untamed and unlivable. For centuries, lava and water fought for ground, for dominance, until Fenrir, a great wolf that watched the Earth amongst the stars, came upon the world in a rage. He pushed the fire into the depths of the rock the Ferine call home, and settled the water into bodies and streams. Mountains and valleys were created, the true terrain of the Earth coming forth from beneath the massacre that was before. As the world became habitable, Gods and Goddesses of every species descended to lay their creations onto a new world, Fenrir being the father of wolves and those like them. Unfortunately, the Elder One had no place, no joy, on the earth once life sprang forth, nor did any other Gods, so they created one last time. From their own souls, they crafted two more of each creation: a soul of the night and a soul of the day. For the wolves, these souls are referred to as Hati (the chaser of the sun, the father of all black wolves) and Sköll (the chaser of the moon, the father of all white wolves).
Each species of animal has a black and a white soul, and those souls all have specific duties to carry out in order to keep the world from returning to fire and ice. Unlike their God and Goddess parents, these souls are mortal, though their longevity is roughly 200 years. Like their parents, they are allowed to walk among the earth at their will, though staying for too long will disrupt the balance of the world. At the end of the souls' lives, those living on earth and of the species are chosen at death to take their place and live on in their name. The rest are sent to the constellations to run with Fenrir.[/fancypost]

UPPER TIER
Alphas [1/2] The most dominant among the pack, these wolves are responsible for leading, guarding, and nurturing. They are typically the first to respond to unknown, unfamiliar sensations and are the only ones in power to call for decisions regarding the well being of the pack. Two wolves act as Alphas, a male and a female, and are always bonded mates. Any wolf from any rank can challenge the role of the Alpha(s).
Betas [2/2] Second to the Alphas, both have the same responsibilities as their higher-ups and are required to perform them when the leaders are busy/absent. Betas are turned to for lesser questions and problems among the pack, and offer opinions and guidance when sought to the Alphas. Two wolves act as Betas, a male and a female, and do not have to be mates. Gammas can rise from their rank and request a challenge for Beta if the Alphas feel they are trustworthy and the current Beta(s) is/are failing.
Gammas [0/2] The ears and eyes within the pack, Gammas are Sigmas that report any trouble, concern, defiance, etc to the Alphas. Two wolves act as Gammas, a male and a female, and do not have to be mates. Any wolf from any rank can rise and be nominated for the rank by the Alphas.
Upsilon [0/1] The spiritual leader and healer of the pack. He/she tends to be a pacifist and are always left with several guards in a fight/time of war. Protecting the Upsilon is just as important as protecting the Alphas and the young because without him/her, there is no healing the pack. One wolf of either gender acts as Upsilon until he/she is rendered unfit for the job. The Epsilon is the only wolf allowed to rise to the rank of Upsilon.
Rhos [0/∞] The retired upper tier wolves. When a hard decision comes to the pack, the Alphas will bring it to the Rhos to vote on. Other than occasionally helping with decisions, they reinforce rules and teach wolves younger than them. Wolves of either gender act as Rhos, but only the upper tier is allowed to retire to the rank.
UPPER-MIDDLE TIER
Etas [0/2] The head scouts. They arrange patrols of the territory, search parties, scouts for new land and/or prey, and train Deltas the art of scouting. Two wolves act as Etas, a male and a female, and do not have to be mates. Any wolf that shows outstanding skill in scouting may rise to the rank.
Thetas [0/2] The head hunters. They arrange hunting parties, track scents, and teach Deltas the art of tracking and hunting. Two wolves act as Thetas, a male and a female, and do not have to be mates. Any wolf that shows outstanding skill in hunting and tracking may rise to the rank.
Zetas [1/2] The head warriors and guardians. They arrange groups of fighters, guard the pack, and teach Deltas the art of guarding and fighting. Two wolves act as Thetas, a male and a female, and do not have to be mates. Any wolf that shows outstanding skill in guarding and combat may rise to the rank.
MIDDLE TIER
Sigmas [0/∞] The mass and soul of the pack, Sigmas are the adult wolves within the pack. They perform all tasks, such as hunting, guarding, scouting, collecting, etc, with most specializing in one or two. Wolves of either gender act as Sigmas.
Deltas [0/∞] The adolescent wolves of the pack. They are in a stage of growing, learning, and discovering, and thus are allowed room to explore their passions and experiment with possible ranks. Their training lasts from age one to age two, in which they are either offered an upper tier rank, a middle tier leader rank, or appointed to the Sigma rank. Wolves of either gender act as Deltas.
Epsilon [0/1] An epsilon is chosen at birth by the Upsilon. From that point, they will be introduced to the religion and philosophy of the pack as well as the healing remedies they believe in and use. At age one, the Epsilon becomes the Upsilon's apprentice and works with him/her for the majority of the day on everything. They may raise to the rank of Upsilon once he/she steps down or passes away. One wolf of either gender is chosen as Epsilon.
Iotas [0/∞] The pups of the pack. They are protected and raised by everyone. Wolves of either gender act as Iotas.
Kappas [0/5] The pups of the Alphas. They are trained in hunting, scouting, fighting, and all are trained specifically to take on the title of Alpha, though the eldest will always be granted the right first. A Kappa's training starts at age one and ends at age three, and if they Alpha position has yet to open at that time, they must hold a middle tier rank until their time arises. The youngest Kappas tend to be overshadowed by the eldest in the way that they typically don't have the chance to become Alpha and stay in the middle tier for the rest of their natural lives.
Currently not open as a rank.
LOWER TIER
Omegas [2/5] The lowest rank within the pack, Omegas have either failed to perform at the average level to become a Sigma or have fallen from their previous rank. While they are still cared for within the pack, they receive the least respect and opportunities. Wolves of either gender act as Omegas. All wolves can fall to the rank, but very few are allowed to climb to a higher rank.
Omicrons [1/5] Loners and rogues who are not a part of the pack. Wolves of either gender act as Omicrons.
Xis [0/∞] Bastard pups and newly joined wolves. The rank is temporary for all while the upper tier decides where they should be placed. They are required to be a Xi until the age of two, when their skills have been developed, or one year after joining, when the pack can determine a wolf's strengths.[/fancypost]
