  • Dog teeth are rather blunt, and its the bite force that causes them to break skin and draw blood, so what would the point of putting dog teeth over cat claws be, other than looking cool? I mean, lookie :

See how rounded they are compared to

And thats just the dew claw, the other claws are less dull. Cat claws are also shaped better for grabbing and holding onto things, thus making it easier for them to break skin and leave a nasty gash.

Cats don't really use power to attack, more of lots of swift and well placed blows to the face and stomach area, when dogs fight by biting ears, tail and neck. So of course, dog's teeth are better at sinking in from use of brute force than cat's claws are, but cat's claws are better at grabbing things and tearing.

And this is assuming cats can actually force tog teeth over their claws, but I'm not going to get into that.

Am I the only one who sees this as an obvious disadvantage for a cat?

  • If you weren't in 3rd grade (or acted like it) when dog's teeth make a full force blow on your leg you won't think they're so blunt. Dogs have sharp teeth. They just looked blunt. Cats normally batter and swipe. They do not "tear flesh" mostly. In fact all the cat fights I've seen them use their teeth more than their claws. They use their teeth to kill prey, to hold the female in position for mating, and eating. They basically only use their claws to climb stuff. The Warriors series (in case you haven't noticed) has the most unrealistic fighting scenes I've ever seen. Cats don't go all Dragon Ball Z when they fight by learning how to do a double flip and land on the other cat's back and crash him to the ground. If you ask me (as much as I love the series) the Erins need to study cat behavior better before putting a load of baloney in their books. 8) JS

  • Well yeah, of course the Erins were way off, but even if they were right, that isn't the point.

I've been bitten by my fair share of dogs, I know exactly what it feels like. Dog teeth aren't sharp though, not like a cat's claws are. Even if it does hurt a lot, that doesn't really change that they are much duller compared to most other carnivores.

And yeah, I know that a cat uses its teeth for many things, but in fights, cats aren't to bite happy. They tend to just swipe and yes, tear each other apart. It could be that the cats in my area are pretty violent due to some random factor, but I've seen plenty of times when two cats start going after eachother, end up both bleeding badly, and only bite each other a couple of times. If a cat wants to cause damage, scratching is better.

Back to the original point of the post, the Erins weren't thinking when they decided Scourge was going to be a fashion designer and dog teeth were in season. I get that, its a childrens' book and children don't think about these things. But many of the people on this website are at least tween, so they should be able to realize that even if cats could get dog teeth over their claws, they would be at a disadvantage. Though, just because Scourge did it cannon, every evil cat and their mother are using dog teeth to tear guts open and rip out eye balls.
