Warriors: The First Sign
Prologue

“Bramblestar!Get Dovewing out of the nursery!” Bramblestar heard Blossomfall yell, he looked up to see water dripping over the edge of the stone hollow. ”Rosepetal,get everyone out of their dens!” Bramblestar yowled and Rosepetal disappeared into the warriors den. He turned and ran into the the nursery. ”Dovewing!Get your kits and go to the abandoned twoleg nest!” Dovewing nodded and got her kits out of the nursery. Bramblestar ran out to see the apprentices running out of the camp with Dovewing and a few warriors with them.

Bramblestar ran over to the elders den to help Rosepetal get the elders out of camp,he looked up to see more water dripping for the top of the stone hollow.”Come Spiderleg,we have to hurry.”

Bramblestar spoke to the elder. ”Don’t worry about me!Go help Dustpelt,he said his legs are still stiff.” Spiderleg said, Bramblestar nodded and rushed over to Dustpelt. ”Rosepetal,take Graystripe and Spiderleg to the abandoned twoleg nest!” Yelled Bramblestar to the she-cat.

“Ok,but who else needs to get out of camp?” Rosepetal asked ”I think Jayfeather and Amberflame are still in the medicine cat den,don’t worry i’ll get them” Bramblestar said.

“Come on Dustpelt!” Bramblestar pleaded with the elder. ”Ok,i’m going!” Said the elder and walked out of the den to the rest of the cats.Bramblestar raced over to the medicine cat den to find Jayfeather and Amberflame sorting herbs.”Come on,we need to leave!” Jayfeather’s head shot up. ”Leave?”He echoed ”Why?” Amberflame was the one who spoke this time ”Because the lake has flooded to the camp and if we don’t hurry,we’ll drown.” Bramblestar explained to the medicine cats.

The medicine cats looked at each other and nodded.”But wait,what about Thornclaw?He still sick.” Amberflame said looking down at the old warrior. ”I’ll help him.” Bramblestar said and crouched down beside Thornclaw. ”Don’t worry,Thornclaw,we’re not leaving you behind” Thornclaw grouned as he got to his paws and with Bramblestar slowly walked out of the medicine cat’s den.Once the two cats were in the clearing Bramblestar felt water under his paws, looking down he saw that there was water under his feet and over his paw as well.

“Thornclaw,come on!” Bramblestar started to push the elder. “No just leave me, I can swim” Thornclaw said walking over to the rocks that lead up to the Highledge “Or I could stay in your den for a bit, just leave me, Now!” Thornclaw yelled as rocks started to fall from the stone hollow around them. Bramblestar nodded and ran to the edge of the camp, looking back he saw Thornclaw walking up the rocks to Bramblestar’s den. ”Good-bye, Thornclaw!” Bramblestar yelled to the elder who looked back and nodded.

Bramblestar ran out into the forest where the water was almost to his belly. He turned and started to run towards the abandoned twoleg nest which was where all the clans agreed to go if the flooded lake ever got this far. As he was just getting out of the trees he saw ShadowClan entering the Twoleg nest, he walked into the Twoleg nest and saw Mistystar,Onestar, and Rowanclaw,not Blackstar, all on a tall rock at the end of the nest. Bramblestar walked over and jumped onto the rock with the two leaders and the ShadowClan deputy.

Once Bramblestar had been seated on the rock all the cats fell into an eerie silence.

Bramblestar was the cat who broke this silence. “Mistystar,” He began “Are all your cats safe?” Mistystar’s eyes rolled across the cats who belonged to her clan, a few heart-beats later she replied “Yes, all my cats appear to be fine.” Bramblestar nodded then turned to face Onestar, WindClan’s leader, and asked the same question in which he replied “Yes, they are fine.”

Then looking at Rowanclaw asked. “Where is Blackstar?” Rowanclaw replied with great sorrow clouding his eyes. “Blackstar’s dead.” Shocked gasped filtered through-out the cats. “How?” Bramblestar asked remembering the ShadowClan leader and how well he took care of his clan. “ Those twolegs with the loud guns shot him, we tried to carry him here but with the rapidly rising lake water we had to leave him there to be taken away by the lake.” Rowanclaw hung his head down once he had finished talking.

“Is all of ThunderClan here!” Bramblestar meowed from on top of the rock. “ Yes, ” Squirrelfight , ThunderClan’s deputy and Bramblestar’s mate, mewed. “ We’re all here.” After Squirrelfight had spoken Mistystar stepped forwards. “ What should we do?” She mewed worriedly. “ What can we do, “ Rowanclaw spoke this time. “The lake is flooding our camps, we’re being hunted by twolegs, there’s nothing we can do. “ Nothing, Bramblestar echoed nothing, but. “Leave.” He said out loud. “What?” Mistystar meowed looking at him with wide eyes. “Leave.” He repeated. “Leave the lake.” All of the cats just stared at him.

“Leave, we can’t just leave this is our home!” Onestar was almost yelling at him. “Why not, we moved once before from the forest now it’s time we moved from the lake, I say we head up that way, to the unknown area of the mountains above ThunderClan’s area.” Bramblestar pointed his tail up to the mountains. “We could follow the Moonpool stream up into the mountains and find somewhere past them.” Bramblestar looked down at the cats to see that some of them were thinking and wanting to leave.

Bramblestar watch Onestar, Mistystar, and Rowanclaw gather up and start to whisper about Bramblestar’s idea. Finally they broke apart. “We have agreed that we shall leave.” Bramblestar was great full that they had said yes and were hopefully were going to be safe.
