I'm all alone, an outcast halfbreed.

  • Less burdened, I scampered up the slope ahead of me with the agility of a mountain goat. The climb seemed to keep going for a while then the sheer trail began to level off. From there I could see the river and the way we had come, but Lyca was where I could not spot her. I continued on, looking for some indication that the trail would taje us out of the mountains and not further into them.

  • I stared at the woman intently, but soon became satisfied that she wasn't going to waken. I turned to the boy to find him watching me. I smiled at him and he gave a weak smile back. He lifted his arm, reaching out to me. I walked over and rested my head under his palm, before he let his arm fall with exhaustion again and wagged my tail as I felt him gently stroking me

  • Nothing, I clambered down the slope on paths we normally could not use and went to check out the path closer to the river. The rocks made it difficult to traverse. They weren't for me, but for the inexperienced or sick traveler they would be. The water beside was treacherous, and I knew that if we got in here, we might have to fight the Hightower of the rock walls further along. At least I could be sure the river lead out.

  • Soon I returned, coming up from a different way. "I found a more safe way down near river." I reported as soon as I became in their earshot.

  • I nodded. Taking the things I had left behind earlier, I began to pick the easiest way towards the rushing water. It was a little steep, but I had no need to givea warning of danger.

  • The way was not easy. the large jagged rocks near the water required us to climb over them.many were bigger than our heights, and they were strewn in all sorts of directions with the water boiling around them. At least the river did lead us in the right direction.

  • I did not offer to help Lyca, she would nit appreciate such assistance. I was respecting the unspoken claim she had placed on the child as well.

  • We were actually able to move faster this way than when we had come in. Soon the land became smoother, although the bank was still hazardous and the water relentlessly fast.

  • "Where shall we go?" I probed Lyca. to human healers for the boy, we cant take the woman there." I knew we could not take her to human civilization or she would get us in trouble.

  • "go" I bid Lyca with urgency knowing the boy's condition was more belicate than he looked. "will follow slower," I wanted do deal with the woman for good.

  • I nodded and set off at a fast jog/ slow run, knowing any faster and I would be too unsteady. I was in human form, but my sense of smell was good enough to lead me towards the boys home; it was very close to my birth-home.

  • I checked on the woman, aware that I had not bothered to carry her kindly over the journey. First I needed to adress how aware she was. I had not given her any more of the sleep enducing herbs since the morning, so they should have begun to wear off.
