Amira stood on a sand dune. She was looking over her herd. She saw Alfahl and whinnied. Her eyes squinted as the wind blew sand a crossed the desert. They were getting ready to travel to find food for themselves.

  • Israfel pawed the dirt, gathering the last few strands of grass as he stood in the shade of a tree. He watched as his son Mehdi, who was just old enough to be a stallion, galloped forcefully along the near by empty river bed. His hooves kicked up dust, and he tossed his head joyfully. Israfel shook his head at the display of endless energy.

  • Long, slender legs strode gracefully over the flowing desert sand. A young mare cantered through the harsh sunlight, the intense golden rays slanting upon her gossamer coat. The pale grey shape moved in a fluid motion, but the look in her amber orbs said that she was all but paying attention. Her ebony mane breezed out behind her in obsidian paintstrokes as her hooves flew over the ground, kicking up dirt.
Yasmeen was running. Again. The mare could never get enough of the painfully exhilirating feeling whilst running. The wind in her face, the sun warming her, and the beautiful sky above. Yasmeen always slipped into daydreams like this. It was just natural for her.

  • Israfel called to his son, who snorted but trotted over. This land was bare, now it was time to move. The two must find grass and water in the dry land. They set off, well breed and refinded bodies blurring together as a race insued. The father pulled ahead, nickering softly in delight. But the sound did not go deep. No, he had lost to much for his heart to be fully happy. Mehdi was the first to spot another mare (Yasmeen) and slowed to a stop, the actio followed by Israfel, who then saw her. It was just a mare, no threat. He set off at a weary trot, Mehdi jittering around behind him.

  • Alfahl saw them two and nickered rearing up high and stomping on the ground, scattering sand. He shook out his mane watching the stallions closely.

  • At last, Yasmeen slowed to a trot. Her sides heaved with the effort of breathing. That had been a splendid run. But now it was time to regroup with the rest of the herd. When she ran, Yasmeen sometimes strayed away too much. It got her much than just a couple of scoldings. But Yasmeen couldn't help herself. The wind simply carried her away.

  • The two stallions found themsevles looking at a pair of horses now, a mare and stallion, it would seem. Having another stallion so near made Israfel tense. He reared, neighing roughly. His hooves smacked into the ground just as Mehdi started forward at a trot. Not one to be outdown, the father gave him a soft push and cantered over, wanting to know what the two where about. The elder stallion was tense, rigid, ears pinned in warning and agression. Mehdi was in a similar, if slightly less argessive and more defensive, position.

  • Yasmeen curiously watched from behind Amira. She wondered what the lead mare was going to do to those bachelor stallions. Probably just chase them away with a warning nip or such. The young mare peered with her bright amber eyes, her legs restlessly kneading the sandy earth.

  • Israfel tossed his head in warning. Both where large, for arabians. Mehdi popped a small buck, rushing forward a few steps only to fall back as Israfel's canter passed him up.

  • They pulled to a stop, the white stallion speaking, still pinning his ears and semi-agressive. Not because of her, but her stallion. "Nomads." He answered. "You?"

  • "Leader of desert horses." Israfel repeated, flicking his tail. "Leader of some desert horses, I believe you mean. For you do not lead us, yet we call the desert home." Mehdi looked between the two, the young stallion's ears perked, not pinned.

  • Yasmeen eventually grew bored with Amira's conversation with the two stallions. The young mare flicked her tail as she trotted a few paces away, making sure to keep a safe distance from the newcomers. The Arabian, once more, began to daydream as she had nothing better to do.
