Madeline Silvetti stepped off the deck of her ferry and looked around the developing city. The immigrant had come from France after the confusion of Napoleon's rule. Europe was trying to prevent something similar from happening again, but Madeline wanted to get away from it all. With only fluent English, a small suitcase, and a lot of money, she decided to come to America. As snow drifted down towards the young adult, she hurried on towards the doctors, who were checking that no diseases entered New York City.

Alarice held her necklace in her hand. The 9 year old looked franticlly for her sister. Sjhe tripped infront of madeline and moved quickly. She wiped the blood coming from her nose with a napkin she had in her pocket.
-
Madeline saw a young girl with blood streaming from her nose. Walking briskly towards her, she bent down her level. "Are you alright?" she asked calmly with a thick French accent.
-
Alarice spoke only some English. With her heavy German voice, "Ja. I think." she rubbed her nose with the napkin again. She then dusted her hans clean and held one out. "Hallo, Ich am Alarice"
-
Madeline shook her small hand. "I'm Madeline," she told her. "Vhere is your caretaker?" she asked, still bending down.
-
"I left them" She sighed. "You can leave now, I need no help" she said. She picked up her small burlap sac and tightend up a braid. She then started for a bench
-
Madeline followed and sat down on the bench as well. "I left mine 'oo. But you seem much 'oo young," she told her.
-
"I'm 9. If I'm old enough to work, then I'm old enough to leave" she sighed
-
Madeline admired Alarice's courage. She stood up with her large bag clutched in her left hand. "It vas nice meeting you Alarice," she said before heading off towards a doctor.
-
Alarice nodded a good-bye and started to re braid her hair
-
The doctor did all sorts of tests on Madeline and asked her a few questions about her medical history. After ten minutes or so, he sent her off to the bag checker. The woman wen through her suitcase for anything dangerous, but found nothing. Sending her off into the city, the women prepared for the next person.

-
"You're welcome." Elizabeth said cheerily.
-
Rose felt the necklace around her own neck. She drew her fingers along the intraquite lines drilled into it. Then she brushed out her bangs and finishd drinking.
-
"Want to go for a walk, after?" Elizabeth suggested. "You can borrow some of my warm clothes."
-
"Sure" she smiled
