  • Krystal, the female tribute from District 7, waited with anticipation as her time quickly ticked away. 60, 59, 58... Her heart felt as if it were pounding against her chest and she could barely breathe. She spotted an axe and a pack not too far off from where she stood, but that didn't stop her from feeling worried. Her whole life was at stake - it would be, once that clock reached zero. 40, 39, 38...

  • Corey, the male tribute from district 8, was tapping his foot in worry. He had never held anything more dangerous than a needle in his life and he believed his chances in the games were slim. He spotted a pack next to an axe and a sword. 'A sword isn't that different than a needle, right?' He though anxiously.

  • 10, 9, 8... 'Oh my god, it's already down to eight seconds,' Krystal thought with worry. She dropped into a running stance and focused all of her attention on the pack and the axe. 7, 6, 5...

  • Corey focused on the pack too. And the sword. His heart raced as he prepared to leap off the pedestal. He stayed upright in fear of falling off early.

  • 4, 3, 2, 1...

    GONG!!

After a couple seconds of shock, Krystal leaped off her metal plate and ran directly towards the pack and the axe, unaware that Corey was headed for the backpack too, as well as the sword that lay on the other side of it.

  • Corey leapt off the pedestal and ran towards the pack. Just as he reached it, he felt himself slam into someone. He rolled to standing to face whoever he had hit.

  • Pain soared through Krystal's face as she bumped into another tribute then toppled over onto the ground, landing face-first on a hard stone. She scrambled to her feet and placed a hand on her face. There was a scratch on her forehead but it wasn't deep. She stared at Corey in fear and backed away from the pack.

"Y-You can have it..." she said. "Just please don't kill me..."

  • Corey laughed at the irony. "I was just about to say the same thing." He snatched up the sword uncomfortably and looked around for another pack. "You take that one." He ran and grabbed a coil of rope and a pack a few feet away, dodging around other tributes. He began to run towards the cliffs and away from the cornucopia when he tripped and saw a career heading towards him.

  • Krystal snatched the pack and the axe right up and began running towards the forest across from the cliffs, when she saw Corey trip and fall. At first she thought of simply running past him, when she saw a Career coming towards him. She couldn't just leave him there to get killed, could he? She sneaked up behind the Career and raised her axe.

  • Corey closed his eyes as the career towered over him, bat raised. "Great. I've been in this thing what? 30 seconds?" He though to himself dryly.

  • Krystal brought the blade of the axe down on the Career's back. She gagged at the sight of blood soaking through their shirt. I can't kill this Career... No, she wasn't ready to kill ANYONE yet. She brought the axe back towards her and kicked the Career so that they stumbled a bit.

"Get up, Corey," she said hurriedly. "Come on."

  • Corey scrambled to his feet and glanced around. "Thanks." He muttered. "Head to the cliffs." He said softly and ran towards them himself.

  • Krystal started to follow him, when the Career she had axed in the back left at her. She dodged out of the way just in time and the Career slammed against the ground.
"Catch me if you can," she taunted, before breaking into a run and following closely behind Corey.

  • Corey paused to make sure she was alright before darting into a crack in a cliff. "In here! He cried. " The entrance was a tight fit and the passage was narrow but there was no mistaking it. There was a tunnel heading through the rock.

  • Krystal slipped in through the entrance and tossed some of her blonde hair out of her face. She panted heavily and placed her hands on her knees before she caught her breath.
    "Are...are you alright?" she asked.

  • Corey dropped his sword for a second before retrieving it and shoving it through his belt. "I-I think so." He replied. "You?" Then he said. "I know this is extraneous but... I just wanted to confirm that we're allies?" He stuttered the last part nervously.

  • Krystal blinked slowly. "Um... I guess." She laughed softly before sliding down the stone wall and sitting on the smooth, cold ground.

  • Corey nodded. "Let's see where this corridor leads to." He suggested.

  • Krystal buried her face in her hands for a few moments. When she had completely recovered her breath she lifted her head and nodded. "Okay." She rose to her feet and began slowly making her way down the narrow tunnel.

  • Corey drew his sword and kept it at the read as they made their way down the dark tunnel.
