December laughed, whipping her head backwards, blonde hair flying with her. She looked over at him. "Maybe just a little." She said, punching him gently in the shoulder. With a wide grin, the girl went back to writing, an entire page already filled. Her hand had the smudgey pencil streaks along her hand, but that didn't bother her. "In Miami, I grew up on this lovely beach house. I have three best friends; Julian, Angela, and Rachel." Dee said, her grin now a small smile. "We've been best friends since we were five and do a lot together. We started this cool club called 'The Beach Life Club' where the four of us just...hang out.
I really enjoyed my life in Miami. For the most part, anyway. I had a lot of ups and downs there. But, I went swimming almost everyday, and grew in love with it." December smiled, her eyes growing distant as though the memories weren't just memories; it seemed like it was happening there, right in front of her. She turned her head towards him, resting a cheek on a fist. "Anywho, I do love it in Miami, and perfer the heat."

"Since Ember is in Kansas, we have high winds, and a possible tornado. Really, wind doesn't bother myself much, in fact, I prefer it. But, anyhow, the population is very low in Ember, creating one problem in particular. You don't get to meet as many people as you would in such a big city, or area as Miami," Asher explained, hoping he wasn't boring her with his simple ways of life,"That's why my uncle invited me to photograph for a month, or so. I gladly excepted the invitation, as anyone would do."
-
"Ooh! That's cool!" December said. "It's always good to meet new people." She smiled before turning her head back to her writing and writing again. After finishing the third page, she closed the journal and tucked it away. "But, although I lived in Miami, I didn't meet many people. It was a private beach, only four the fourteen house owners and their families that lived there. At first, it was only Rachel, Angi, Julian, and their families living there, so we went to the public school.
"However, we didn't exactly like the public school. We stayed away from other kids and simply hung out with each other. We were kinda the 'unpopular crew.'" She smiled, biting her side cheek. "Then, when we turned fifteen, more people came. They built a private school that was only for those who lived there. So, we met most of our friends there, like Rain or Spade or Juliette." -
"I was homeschooled awhile. In fact, I've been homeschooled my entire life; although, I've basically only learned photography. In Ember, education isn't exactly the most important thing in the world," Asher replied, trying to explain the 'schooling system' to December best he could. Yet, Ember seemed more a small community than a town at all. Having everyone know one another, helping each other with difficult tasks. Really, Ember didn't seem to be in the twentieth century, rather later back. Shaking his head to clear his mixture of different thoughts, Asher turned his emerald gaze towards December once more, grinning widely,"I've always wanted to see what lay outside of Ember. In fact, the entire state of Kansas; if you might know what I mean," He said, finally having to speak his thoughts. But, he was embarrassed, blushing a light pink colour. Luckily, it was barely visible, having darkness set in, and stars sparkling from above.
-
December smiled. "That's cool." She said, and stared back out the window. Her teeth bit slightly into her lower lip, seeinging but clouds and sky. Slowly, she turnd her head back to Asher. "Anywho, in my school, everyone picked a special...'career.' We'd pick something we loved. I picked writing. In that writing segment, I had to write a childrens' book, which happend just two months ago." She sighed, looking up at he roof.
-
"We never receive opportunities in Ember, such as a chance to write even a childrens' book. Many of the surrounding areas assume that we are too unimportant to make even the slightest difference in this world," Asher explained with an obvious scowl,"But apparently, we're not good enough, either."
-
"That sucks!" December said, looking at him with anger in her eyes. "Everyone should get a chance to do something, like write or draw! Please tell me you at least got to draw!" She exclaimed, almost seeming...frightend at the thought of not being able to draw or write.
-
"Well, considering we don't have a structured school district, not usually. They don't give us the chance to do anything! We have to find that time on our own, unfortunately. Luckily, I just managed to find this," Asher said, waving towards the camera.
-
"Wow. At least you got to find something." Dee said, moving blonde hair from her eyes. She looked back out the window. The sky was...sky blue, with marshmellow-like clouds drifting everywhere. One passed right by the wing of the plane, catching the girls' eye. She smiles, wishing she could open the window and go sit on the wing- duck taping herself down, of course -and reaching up, touching the clouds.
She pulled down her diary again and sketched a quick picture of what they looked like, and a quick sketch of the wing of the plane, and p[art of the side with a window, her own face peering out. A labelw ent under, saying; the clouds around the plane, so beautiful. -
"That is true. But, my father also brought me Splash, which is also why he is so important in my life. My father passed away three years ago," Asher said, bowing his head, although he wouldn't cry. Not in front of a complete stranger.
-
December looked over at him, seeing him bow his head. She frowned, placing the journal in her lap and her had on his shoulder. Se didn't know what to say, really, so she simply rubbed his shoulder in a comforting way. "Splash probably carried part of your father's soul inside of him." She whispered,
-
"He's a bit different," Asher replied, sighing, although recovering from his sorrow within a matter of seconds. Turning his emerald gaze towards December, the starlight sparkled in his eyes. The moon was full, it's beams bursting through the night air, and into the clear glass of the window towards the pair of teenagers,"How old are you, anyhow?" Asher inquired, obvious interest sparking in his gaze.
-
"I'm seventeen." She sat, tucking a leg under her body. She stared into his eyes, dappled in the moonlight. They enchanted her, her own blue eyes being trapped in the cosmic stare of his emerald gaze. Coughing as a distraction, December turned her gaze away, biting her bottom lip as a small blush appeared on her cheeks. "W-what about y-you?" She stammered in another response, hoping he didn't catch the enchantment hat had been stuck on her face.
-
"Eighteen, nearly nineteen," Asher replied, having not felt the enchantment as December had. Yet, a small spark of affection had ignited in his emerald gaze, but he had quickly turned away. A small screech of protest issued from the small cage, which lay just before his feet,"Splash, be quiet, otherwise you will end being thrown off the entire plane," He warned, kicking the cage with the bit of his toe, but with such gentleness, both the bird, and cage barely shook. Sighing, he felt the flight attendant whisk past, asking anyone if a pillow, or anything else could be used at the moment,"Do you need anything," He inquired, turning towards December.
-
"Hmm...Maybe a pillow." December yawned, leaning her head back on the chair. The moonlight flickered int the window, resting itself on Dee's body. She closed her eyes, wishing she could sleep. Suddenly, her eyes bolted open. "'Scuse me, I have to check on Spotty and Lark." She stood u nd squeezed past Asher, than darted down the aisle. She walked into the room, and turned on the light. "Hey guys..." She whispered, crouching down and stroking Spotty's head. She purred, resting her long, gray tail on december's foot. "Let me get you guys and girls some food." She walked over to a cabinet and searched for some food. Finally, she found a bag of cat food, the one her father had left for her cats. Smiling, December poured it into a bowl. "Na night, guys." HS e whispered, and closed the door, leaving on eof the lights on. She had left the bag on the ground, sealed. She walked abck down the aisle, brushing the few crumbs out of her wavy blonde hair. Smiling, she sat back down beside Asher. "Okay. I am back." She yawned.
-
"Obviously," Asher replied with a slight grin, but leaning back holding onto his small jar of peanut butter, sticking a small spoon into it momentarily,"Sorry, peanut butter gets to me when I have the chance to eat it at any time," He said smiling, with a just the slightest shrug of his shoulders.
-
The waiter-person handed December a white pillow, and she tucked it behind her head. "Mm...I love peanut butter. Only the creamy kind though." She said, closing her eyes and palcing her hands on her chest. "I also like fluff! Marshmellows rule!" She laughed, smiling.
-
{Sorry for the late reply, I swim laps on Thursdays.}
"I've never tried it," Asher replied, sticking the plastic spoon into the creamy, brown solid. Licking it, he closed his eyes in absolute glee. Assuming he looked silly, Asher immediately opened his eyes, emerald gaze meeting December's within a matter of seconds.
-
December smiled and gave a small giggle. "Someone reall does love peanut butter. And you've never tried fluff? t's pretty much like mashed marshmellows. You can make a peanut butter and fluff sandwih and thats awesome." Dee said, her stomach grumbling now. "Ugh...Now I want a PB&F sandwich!" She laughed
-
"Well, we don't usually get many treats in Ember. Mainly peanut butter, taking into consideration the amount of peanut crops we have," Asher replied, with a small laugh, in spite of himself, he licked it in front of her, almost teasing her.
