    ~~~~~~
    Run. That's all she could do now. Run, try to get away. Rain poured as the brown and white border collie raced down the street, her fur drenched. Her paws thudded dully on the concrete sidewalk as she ran. She needed to find a place to hide, a place where those Black Forest dogs would never find her.
    Rounding a bend, she shot through an alleyway, the rain still coming down heavily. The collie darted into a toppled over garbage can, which was the only shelter in the whole alley. She'd stay here for the night, and pray those dogs wouldn't find here here.
  • Canavar curled up in the corner of the building. The abandoned building was the most close thing to a proper shelter the English Setter could find. She felt a raindrop leak from the sealing, where a crack had formed. She let out a quiet whimper, and closed her eyes, as if she could make the world around her disappear.
  • The collie was soaked. She shivered, too frightened to sleep. She watched lighting crack across the sky, making her scoot back father into the trash can. She hunkered down, fearful tremors racking the she-dog to the bone. The water on her coat didn't help ether. The collie layed her head down on her paws,closing her eyes. She kept her ears pricked encase something passed by the alley.
  • Paws splashed through a rain puddle. Two dogs. Storm and Shadow raced down the alley where Emily was in the trash can. Storm barked, enjoying the feel of the rain as he always had. The two Australian Cattle Dogs padded up the alley, looking for a place to take shelter for the night. Shadow found a large whole in the wall of a building covered in a metal mesh net. She crawled inside into a storage room and shook off.
    "I'll take first watch." Storm barked to hsi friend. Shadow nodded and curled up soon falling asleep. Storm sat outside the hole and lifted his head, eyes closed, feeling the rain flow down his pelt. He recalled one of his few happy memories fromt eh junkyard. One of sitting on the highest junk pile int he middle of the junkyard, looking at the moon and feeling rain pour down around him, feeling like nothing could touch him.
  • The collie's eyes flew open when she heard barking. 'They found me!!' was her first thought, but then she realized this barking wasn't hostile. It sounded like one of the dogs heading her way was taking pleaser in whatever he was doing. She spotted two Cattle Dogs run into the alley, and she hunkered down. Her fur was dark from the water, which made her seem like a bag inside the trash can. The two dogs passed out of her view. She heard them talking for a moment. The collie carefully peeked out, seeing one of the Cattle Dogs. She pricked her ears. 'This isn't a Black Forest Dog... he doesn't even smell like he's from any pack. Must be a stray like myself,' she thought, half way stepping out of hiding.
  • Storm sensed movement but knew it wasn't hostile so he ignored it for the moment, enjoying the rain. Inside the building, Shadow was curled up between a pile of warms sacks and some old blankets. She yawned as she curled up tighter, flicking her ears as she heard Storm shift his position outside. She smiled in her half sleep. Her friend was protective and she loved him like a brother. He was the closest thing she had to family. Storm yawned slightly in the rain and drank from a cleanish puddle.
  • The collie took a step forward, cocking her head to the side a bit. She gave a small woof at the Cattle Dog to get his attention.Maybe he knew some good places to hide besides this ratty trash can?
  • Storm opened his eyes and turned to her. He smiled warmly and welcomingly.
    "Need a place to stay kid?" he barked even though he was probably only about a year older than her. He waited for a reply.
  • "W-well, I... I guess so," the collie replied, her ears falling back slightly. "Who are you, anyway?" she added, ears pricking again.
  • "Emily. But you can call me Em if you want," the collie replied, fully trotting out of hiding and stopping a few feet away from Storm.
  • He smiled.
    "It's a nice name. I like it. Well Em, why don't you go inside and sleep. My friend Shadow's in there. Don't worry, she'll help keep you warma nd protect you." he said.
  • Emily smiled slightly at the Cattle Dog. "Thanks," she replied, before heading into the hole in the wall. 'I must have missed this while I was running into this alley,' she thought, shaking herself once she got inside. Water droplets flew off Emily's coat as she shook herself dry.
  • Shadow lifted her head suddenlya nd shook it as some water droplets landed on her muzzle.
    "Watch where your shaking off kid. Come on over here, it's nice and warm." she said.
  • Emily's ears pricked at hearing the voice. She gave a sheepish smile. "Sorry. Didn't see you there," she said, before padding up to the Cattle Dog. "You must be the Shadow that Storm mentioned. I'm Emily. But you can call me Em if you want," she added, flopping down on her side near the Cattle dog.
  • "Well you obviously know I'm Shadow. Nice to meet you Em. If you want anything to eat, there's a sack of apples behind you and I think some other foods too. Eat your fill and get some rest. Looks like you might be with us for a while." she said.
  • "Thanks, Shadow," Emily replied, her voice somewhat quiet as she half closed her eyes. Maybe these guys can help me after all.
