He slid down the wall beside her, brushing some of his silvery purple hair from his face as a plan churned in his brain. "What if... We stayed here for a while... And called the police about him?"

"I've tried… some how my dad doesn't get in trouble " she held her bleeding hand in her other. She sighed "nobody listens to me…" she said quietly. She pulled her knees up to her chest and sighed.
-
"There has to be something we can do... Somehow..." He sighed, pulling his knees to his chest. He wanted to go smoke, but he knew he needed to hold off, and he wasn't going to leave Maddie.
-
She sighed looking at her hand, she looked to Nightmare."I feel so sorry for you… I couldn't imagine being a fire, it must've been so scary!" Maddies eyes were dull with sadness, she sighed holding in tears.
-
[align=center]He nodded quietly. "I didn't know what to do. All I could think of was getting out. I didn't think about my family until it was too late... And to this day, those flames have followed me..." He sighed. "But I couldn't imagine being in your position, either. Going home terrified every day... Not knowing when you'll ever get out... I was with a family like that once, but the flames spread there, too, and I was sent back to the orphanage after their house burned."
-
"Haven't you ever heard of the Romna Curse? It sounds exactly like your problem, where ever you live gets burned to the ground. … I kinda belive in all that stuff you know… ghosts, spirits, dark and light spells…" she said quietly looking into his eye.She played around with the strings of her hoodie.
-
[align=center]"I've never heard of it, but it certainly sounds like what happens to me. People see that nearly everywhere I've been has burned, but they take me in anyway, think that maybe, if they watch me carefully, I won't be able to start a fire. But someone always gets burned..." He pushed his sleeve back slightly, revealing more of his pale skin. Even on just the few inches that were visible, you could see places where the skin was marred by silvery pink scars.
"Nearly my entire body is marked by burns like this, some of them more serious, like the ones on my eye... I can hardly stand to look at myself, because in my burns I see fire, and in the fire, I see their faces. And the scariest part is... Sometimes, when I see them burning, I don't want to help them..." He looked away. "Awful, aren't I?" -
"I don't think your bad… I know what you mean" She sighed "I was on a boat, somewhere in Africa. I don't know why I was there my dad sent me away for a little bit. They were so rude to me, pushing me around, hurting me for fun." She sighed " The boat started sinking, I hopped into the life boat with no other people… there was only 10 people on the boat but they all hurt me,I rowed away, they screamed as they got ate by pirañas. I watched them all die, I didn't even save one…" she looked to the ground and said "I practically killed all of those people…" Maddie sighed." If that's not horrible what is…"
-
[align=center]"But, Maddie, that's understandable. Those people were mean, hurting you for no good reason. You wanted them to stop, and I can see why. Someone like that deserves it. But... Almost all of these people... They were just trying to help me... They tried to give me a home, a normal life, but I blinked. I let my guard down and got too comfortable. Then the fires caught. And now I see them, burning in the fires every time I close my eyes... And I just turn away. I don't want them to get out. I just want to feel the heat on my skin as they burn, listen to the shrieks pound against my ears... I hear their cries, but I've stopped listening. I only hear the crackle of the flames now..." He closed his eye, curling his hand into a fist around the fabric on the bottom of his jacket as a pained expression crossed his face.
"I want to hear them... But the flames are too loud..." -
"I don't know what to say…" she said. Her hand stopped bleeding, she looked to her hand and pulled out a lighter. She started to play with it, hovering her hand over the flame. Then making it go out by putting her hand over it. Her whole hand was burnt , "I'm sorry I shouldn't be playing with fire as you tell me this story… you probably find it offensive…" she put her lighter away. She but her bottom lip, from the pain if her burning hand. Maddie looked to nightmare and sighed.
-
[align=center]Nightmare shook his head. "No, its okay. Sometimes I can't help but watch the flames, too..." He pulled out his own lighter from his pocket. "If I'm caught with this, though, you'll probably never hear another word about me." Reaching back in his pocket, he drew out his purple handkerchief. "This takes forever to burn..." He winced a bit at the instant flames. He watched it for a second, as if in a daze as it danced in his grey eye. Then he shook his head and lit the end of the handkerchief, watching the flame catch and slowly eat at the end of it. It was obvious he had lit it before. "I don't hate fire... It's actually something amazing, something that catches my curiousity. I just don't like the way its caught on me, as if I'm hot coals, so people think its safe... But after long enough, something catches the flame, and we all get burned again..." He never looked away from the flames as he spoke. Then his gaze was on Maddies face. "I don't mind you playing with fire, but I wish you wouldn't burn yourself. That makes me feel like the fires have spread to you... And I don't want to burn you..."
-
"Im sorry , it's a habit I've done since I was 11, I don't know why though… maybe because I like pain, or maybe it's a stress reliever, maybe I do it for fun… I have no clue. But if you truly want me to stop I will, cause I've learned about your horrible past and i want to help you…"She lit her lighter and watched the fire dance. She reached out to touch it, but then pulled back keeping her promise. She locked her eyes on the flame.
-
"Thanks. I just can't stand thinking I've burned someone else..." He sighed, putting out the flame and shoving his handkerchief in his pocket. A moment later, he started coughing. Badly. That horrible, awful cough where no matter what, you just can't breath.
Not again! Nightmare thought, putting his hand over his mouth. -
"Are you okay?!" She asked putting her hand on his back, gently. Her blue eyes locked on him. She dropped her lighter, it ended up burning her leg. She let out a yelp putting the lighter away. She looked to her burn and sighed. "Oww… I've never been burned like that, it really hurts!" She said trying to hold back tears of pain.Maddie looked back to Nightmare still worried, she tried to ignore the pain.
-
[align=center]After another minute it died down, and as he moved his hand away he saw he had coughed up blood. Again. He cursed under his breath, wiping his hand on the handkerchief he just put away and looking at where Maddie had been burned. "I can't go anywhere... This is going to drive me mad. Especially burning you... Are you okay?" The worry was clear in his slate colored eye and gentle voice.
-
"What?… this isn't your fault… I just dropped my lighter… I put my hand on your back and dropped it… no big deal… it's not your fault don't blame yourself. It's my fault, I've always been careless and reckless…"Maddie looked to her burnt leg and frowned. Her eyes locked on the burn. She tried to ignore the pain that sent shivers down her spine. Her leg began to shake , uncontrollably.Maddie turned as pale as a ghost.
-
[align=center]And the flames spread...
"Maddie! Are you okay?!" He asked, seeing her shaking and knowing something was really wrong.
Until only ashes are left.
-
"M-my leg… it burns…" she squinted her eyes, in pain. Her leg shaked even more. She felt weak, her leg was burnt really bad. She looked around, shocked. Maddie sighed, her cheeks wet with tears.
-
"I'm sorry..." He murmured. "What can I do to help?"
-
"Do you know how to deal with a burn? Do you put water on it… or what do you do?" Maddie asked, her eyes locked on Nightmare.
