  • Haykit smiled, "Thanks Nwetfang!" I hope I get him as my mentor! she thought sitting beside Newtfang, "So, what'cha doing?"

Krispheart smiled, "I'm doing fine, thanks for asking." she took a bite of her meal, "Just the non-stop 'Look! My hunter's crouch is amazing! Maybe I should become an apprentice early' and 'I got the skills! I can be an apprentice!' from Haykit." She sighed, "She's got her father's spirit."

  • Swiftstreak let out a purr, remembering back to her kit-hood. "I was like that when I was kit," she mewoed softly, seeming to be in a daydream. She shook it off, returning to reality.

  • "Well I was hunting," the new warrior meowed, "then you came along." Newtfang looked down at the kit and continued, "I could show you some pointers for hunting if you'd like."

  • Haykit's eyes widened, "Please do!" she nearly sprung off the ground in excitement.

Krispheart smiled also remembering her kit hood, "I remember when I was outside of the camp for my first time, I was five moons old, almost ready to become an apprentice." she laughed a little, "I got caught and had to clean out the Elder's den!"

  • "Well, first off you need to learn the basics," Newtfang smiled. He lowered himself to the ground, his belly hovering a whisker above the ground. "You need to be silent so the prey doesn't hear you." Slowly, carefully, and on paws as silent as death, the young tom creeped forward. "Use every sense. Hearing, sight, taste, feel, smell." After crawling forward a tail length, he bunched his muscles. "Once you feel like your close enough, you pounce!" With a tremendous leap into the air, he landed skillfully on a leaf. Turning to Haykit he meowed, "Now you try it."

  • Haykit crouched, and did as she was told. Ok, good Haykit... NOW! Haykit jumped, aiming to jump on another leaf. But instead she lost her footing and fell face first into a bush, "Ouch." she whimpered.

  • In seconds the warrior was by her side. "You okay?" He asked.

  • Newtfang purred. "I didn't know how to do that until I was half way through my training!"

  • Haykit smiled, "Well, then I guess I'm a quick learner!" she walked back over to where she started, "Shall I try again?"

  • Newtfang nodded. "Keep your eyes on your target," he instructed.

  • Haykit's eyes focused on a leaf just a few feet away. She crouched and stalked forward, makinbg sure to be extra quiet. She lunged at the leaf and landed right on it, "I did it!" she shrieked, "Did you see that Newtfang?!"

  • "Great job!" He purred, his eyes gleaming. "Now, before someone hears us, lower your voice!" He added playfully.

  • "Like this?" Haykit said in the tiniest of whispers. She smiled, "Thanks for helping me Newtfang!" she said a bit louder sitting down, "Let's just hop no-one notices I'm gone."

  • "Well we won't let that happen, will we? Why don't I teach you about hiding your scent?" Newtfang grinned.

  • "Well there's several ways," Newtfang meowed, guiding the kit away from where they had stood. "You can roll in mud, dung, or cover yourself with strong smelling herbs."
