    Recap

    IC:

Spirestar led Ospreywhisker to the old abandoned warrior's den. He looked up at the stars thoughtfully, then turned to the visitor.
"It may be more damp than you are accustomed to. It's dry enough for most of us, but living near the sea the mist does soak into your fur. I hope you sleep well. I will call the clan together tomorrow to discuss a plan to address your clan's problems. I cannot promise aid at this stage, but it's possible."
"Whatever you can do will be a blessing," Ospreywhisker purred. "DaleClan will be forever in your debt, and I thank you for the shelter and your willingness to hear our problem."
    Spirestar frowned slightly, then nodded.
"You are welcome. I must go attend to my clan. Sleep well,"
Spirestar padded away, back towards his own den. Ospreywhisker arched one eyebrow and smiled.
    "I will."

  • Senses dulled by exhaustion and hunger, the red-furred tom couldn't make out if there were any patrols near him, or even where the camp of these clan cats were. All he could scent was a general clan scent, and that wasn't enough to calm his nerves and guide him safely away from the clan. For all he knew, he could be headed straight towards the camp and not even know it.
It became apparent to him, however, that the little kit whom swung from his jaws wasn't any much better off. She'd mewl for food, if she had the energy to. And even if she had the energy, the tang of a strange scent in her nostrils and the tensing and relaxing of Phoenix's jaws told her to be quiet.
Not that being quiet mattered anymore, as he was sure that the clan probably noticed him by now. Nevertheless, he kept trekking onwards, in hopes of making it to the other side.

Fallingsand, on the other hand (or paw?), stood in the camp. Her sand-colored fur bristled slightly as the wind continuously brought the scent of a stranger down to the camp. How many more things were going to pop up? Her amber eyes flitted over to where Ospreywhisker had gone, then out towards the lands beyond the camp. First Spirestar's dream, then the appearance of Ospreywhisker, and now this strange scent...

  • wheres the sign up thread?

  • OOC: Oh! Sorry. here is the link, and I'll put it in the header.

IC: Spirestar looked out at the edge of the camp. He saw a rustling shadow
It must be another strange cat. That's no familiar scent, he thought. So strange that HighlandClan would have so many visitors in a time like this.
"Who goes there? Declare your identity, so we may speak further!" he mewed loudly to the new cat.

  • The cardinal-coated tom froze in place, all of his muscles tensing up for a moment. Even in this weakened state he was in, he could hear the commanding tone of a leader--it was something he knew very well. Despite the fact that the large tom was forced to unsheathe his claws just to balance himself, his appearance wasn't all that threatening; a ragged pelt that obviously hadn't been cleaned in days, eyelids and tail drooped slightly from his exhaustion, and even the way his empty stomach rose much farther than a well-fed cat's would. It was clear that this stranger wouldn't be able to hold his own in a fight in his current condition--no matter how much he tried.
And yet, he still felt the need to gently set down the little scrap of fur he held, sit back on his boney haunches with his tail curled around the she-kit, and dip his head just slightly to Spirestar. "I mean no harm," he started, his voice cracking from disuse, yet it was clear that had he a perfect bill of health right then, his voice would have been loud, powerful, and confident. "My name is Phoenix."

  • OOC: sorry it's short. muse has been low. Any suggestions on how to recruit? All the other old members seemed to have jumped ship

Spirestar heard the cat's voice as he approached. It was tired and cracked, but he could still detect a note of strength in its even, smooth timbre. He saw the reddish cat place a young kit on the ground. His eyes grew slightly wider.

"Greetings, Phoenix. I am Spirestar, of HighlandClan. What brings you out to our remote home?"

  • ooc: Mmm, well, there's the advertisement thread, if that's still going. You could make a graphic or go to a graphics shop to put one in your siggy. Do you have a lot of friends on here? You could ask them to join or help advertise the clan.

ic: Phoenix's tail tip flicked slightly. He wasn't much of one to lie, yet at the same time he wasn't sure whether or not to tell Spirestar everything. "I was actually hoping to pass by without raising too much attention. I guess my sense of smell isn't very sharp right now." The red tabby glanced down at the little kit he had been protecting. She stared up weakly at Phoenix and tried to paw at one of his forelegs, only to end up falling over.

  • Spirestar eyed Phoenix with an air of curiosity. The other cat seemed protective, although it was hard for Spirestar to be sure.
"We mean no harm. We can't shelter visitors for the long term, but you are welcome to spend the night if you need to rest," Spirestar said to Phoenix as he helped the kit back on her feet.
Spirestar was silent for a long moment. He looked up at the full moon. Then,
"Forgive me for prying, but is this your kit?"

  • Phoenix shifted his weight slightly, clearly unsure of what to say. Last time he was within a clan's camp, he had just became their leader, and then had his death faked against his will. But at the same time, he knew sleeping in the camp would be much safer than sleeping out in the middle of no where. "I'm grateful for your offer." He dipped his head slightly to Spirestar. He then paused for a second and let out a sigh before responding to the leader's question. "No, it's fine, but I'd rather not talk about it with..." The tom left the sentence hanging there as he glanced down at the little kit, as if to imply that it was a subject that wasn't for her ears. "I started calling her Cherry, it seemed fitting."

  • OOC: I'm going to go on the recruiting trail. Meantime, I may have to play multiple cats. :p The deeper plot will hopefully pick up again soon, as I'm trying to work your character into it and figure out how it will move forward. Any out of character knowledge I should have about Phoenix?

    Spirestar nodded cordially.
"No more questions for a weary traveler tonight. I insist you stay with us for the night. We are remote, and no harm will come to you here. You can sleep in the old warrior's den. There's room for one more cat, and I'm sure Cherry will fit just fine. Follow the thin line of trees towards the moon and you'll find it. It's a pretty visible mossy cave."
Spirestar dipped his head to Phoenix, then returned to his den.

  • ooc: Mmm, well, he isn't called Phoenix for no reason. The reason behind his bio stating that he had become leader for a little bit was to hint towards him having multiple lives. Everyone in his old clan thought that he died before getting his nine lives, but he was secretly kicked out just after getting them. No one else knows, and it's just about the last thing he'd ever tell anyone. He's not really one to flaunt something like that anyways, and he's been too focused on protecting Cherry.

ic: "Thank you," Phoenix croaked quietly as Spirestar left. The red tabby tom scooped up Cherry again and followed the line of trees like Spirestar said until he found the cave that the leader spoke about. He crept into the cave and found somewhere comfortable to lay down. He then pulled Cherry close, and she snuggled into his belly fur while he curled himself around her protectively almost like a queen would with her kits. Sleep befell quickly upon the two exhausted red cats.
