    Wheatley used to be a little boy, a son of one of the scientists of the GLaDOS project. He wasn’t terribly smart, especially about things like book smarts. He was picked on and bullied a lot a school, and even the teachers demeaned him. It made it even worse that he was very small and skinny for his age. Even his own mother was disappointed in her son. He tried over and over to do big things, and show off and prove that he could be good, he could be smart. The little ol’ Wheatley was powerful. But his mother never saw it. She just called him dumb, stupid, and most often, a moron. His only small solace was his father, who never cared about any of that. He saw the Wheatley did have potential, and wasn’t really that dumb. But then his father was killed by GLaDOS. Wheatley’s mom completely ignored him, and in one last desperate attempt to get her attention, he tried to steal a lot of many to buy the only thing she seemed to care abut. Money. but he was killed by a car while running away with the money. And even after that, as he was dying, his mother never cared. Later on, a scientist from GLaDOS came to interview her. Being vengeful and mean, she told them about WHeatley and they used him as a template to make the personality core. They even used his real brain, to some degree. And he had buried memories of his past. That why when he was hooked up to GLaDOS, he felt big, powerful and strong, for once in his life. he wanted so desperately to prove himself, that it caused what you saw in Portal 2.
