Tyler walked behind her and said, "I'm getting the impression that the reason you want to bring her with us is because she reminds you of yourself."

[align=center][font=georgia][color=black] Alex looked at him and shone the flashlight on him. She shook her head, thinking. "No, that's not it." She said. "She sort of reminds me of--" She faded off and shook her head. The past is the past. That's the past she did not want to share. She was glad her little sister never had to experince any of this. "It's not important she just deserves to live." She stopped when she saw the young girl and shone the flashlight on the girl, then looked at Tyler.
-
The girl still didn't seem to notice either one of them and was just drawing pictures in the clay with a thin twig.
Tyler asked, "Her? Why'd you have to get me?"
-
[align=center][font=georgia][color=black] Alex thought about it. Why had she gotten him? As she shone the flashlight on the young girl, she noticed she was drawing pictures. She bit her lip and looked at Tyler after a moment's thought. "You're more patient than I am. I can already tell." she said quietly and kneeled down. "Um, sweetie, we've come to take you to safety with us." she said quietly, tripping her sentence every once in awhile. [b]"Mind answering me please?"
-
The girl continued to draw nothing more than random, messy lines in the dirt, still not seeming to notice.
-
[align=center][font=georgia][color=black] Alex thought for a moment then a thought occured to her and she looked at Tyler. "Do you think she hadn't noticed because she's..." Alex hesitated for a moment. "Deaf?" she asked finally. She looked at the girl again, who seemed to be in her own little world where no one, not even the Changed existed. Not even the dog who was whimpering by her side.
-
Tyler just shrugged.
The girl finally looked up from her drawing and noticed them.
-
[align=center][font=georgia][color=black] Alex watched as the girl's dog nosed the little girl's cheek and Alex took a deep breath, making sure the little girl faced her. She knew a little sign language from when her sister was alive, okay maybe a lot. "Do you hear me?" She asked, sign languaging it as well.
-
"Da you he'ya me?" She asked awkwardly and slowly, sign languaging it back.
-
[align=center][font=georgia][color=black] Alex looked at the girl and looked back at Tyler. "She's deaf." She said quietly. She felt kind of bad for the girl and looked back at her. It was scary. How much like her sister she was. Alex might faint if they had the same name. "I do." She said, sign languaning it back. "Can you tell me your name, sweetie?" She asked with her voice, and sign language so Tyler knew what was going on.
-
"A'e," she answered, sign languaging "Abby"
-
[align=center][font=georgia][color=black] Alex looked at the little girl. Abby. Abigal. It was a beautiful name, but it wasn't her sisters. Her little sister's name was Anella. Taking a shaky breath, holding back the wave of emotion, she nodded. "Nice to meet you." She said as she sign languaged. "I'm Alex, and this is Tyler." She gestured to the boy she was starting to develop feelings for and then looked at the girl with a small smile. [b]"We hope you could join us now."
-
At that she looked at the ground, shaking her head before saying, "I wai'in' fo' da'y. He to' me not lea'." She didn't bother to sign language it that time.
(Just in case you can't read it: I waiting for daddy. He told me not to leave.)
-
[align=center][font=georgia][color=black] Alex listened to her, able to understand since her sister talked the same. She lifted the girl's head gently. There was probably no hope for Abby's dad, he was probably dead. Maybe not. It depended on how long he was gone. He couldn't just leave his deaf daughter here. "Hun," she said slowly, hoping the girl could read her lips. [b]"How long has your daddy been gone?"
-
She didn't quite seem to understand what she said and pointed up a steep slope and said, "'Anger... He wen' a see a 'anger."
-
[align=center][font=georgia][color=black] Alex looked up the slope and looked at the girl, worried. "One second." She said, using sign language as well. After a couple of moments, she looked at Tyler, raising an eyebrow. "What do you think, Tyler?" She asked him quietly. "Do you think maybe we should take her? She is deaf and her dad left her alone and she's easy meat for the... the Changed if there's any more."
-
"Well what if her dad comes back looking for her? I don't want to kidnap anyone."
-
[align=center][font=georgia] Alex stood up, facing him. "Tyler... what if he doesn't come back?" she asked. Then she had an idea and sniffed the air. She smelt a male scent, but it seemed almost very faint, yesterday morning faint. "Her dad hasn't been here since yesterday morning. What if we just... leave her here and she..." Alex lowers her voice. [b]"Dies. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself..."
-
"OK, but where did he go? We should at least look for him. We'd be tearing a family apart if he was alive and came back to find her missing."
-
[align=center][color=black][font=georgia] Alex considered Tyler's suggestion then took a deep breath nodding. "Okay," she mumbled quietly, refusing to meet his gaze. "But Abby is coming with us." She looked around, sniffing for any faint scent without doing much movement and caught the faint scent going up the slope. She turned to Abby and kneeled down just sign languaging to her without speaking. [i]'We are all going to go find your daddy.'
