Imagine if you had the decision between 2 people/cats/doughnuts. Plus, it was destiny, so she had to pick Bramble/whateverpersonname/chocolatecovereddoughnut.
But anyway, think bout it. If she chose Ashfur, Brambleclaw will be... in ashfur's spot, but a little less treacherous. He might've moved on, we will never know.
Ashfur, of course, should of moved on.
