    Darkstar turned from her patrol, motioning for them to continue on their path, then looked at Lifesong. "What is it?" she said with a smile.


    Swanfeather peered out of her den, hearing the commotion of the cats in the clearing. When she heard Hollyheart's brittle coughing, she bounded down, then looked at the other cats, as if telling them to go away, and looked at the sick cat. "Come with me please."

    Poor Hollyheart, Silverfrost thought.


    How could he care for that mange-pelt! Swifttail almost said the words out loud.

    As soon as Silverfrost saw Swifttail he stomped away.


    Why doesn't he like me anymore? Swifttail tried to hold the tears back.
