matters of suicide

Due to the Star Forest, suicide is a matter that is seriously dealt with. Any cat attempting suicide is to be immediately executed, either by the Boss, Underboss, or the Divine. This is not to be confused with a suicidal cat who has not yet attempted to claim their own life; these cats are not authorized to be killed and attempting to do so will be declared a betrayal and dealt with accordingly.

In the case of a cat who feels suicidal but has not yet attempted it, several options are given. If emotional support fails / has failed, the cat is encouraged to go on a spiritual journey away from SunClan, during which they reevaluate their circumstances and try to come up with a solution. The Divine may or may not accompany them on this journey, depending on the Divine's availability (if the Divine is required in the Clan, they cannot go) -- should the Divine not be available, the cat is required to choose a "second-hand". This cat travels with the suicidal member to help ensure safety / support and returns with them once a solution has been reached. This solution can be anything from dealing with the grief and returning to SunClan to deciding to live alone / move to another Clan, etc.; anything that does not involve their death is an acceptable solution.

If the suicidal cat either 1) attempts suicide while on the journey, or 2) decides they will still attempt suicide, the Divine or the "second-hand" (whichever has accompanied the cat on the journey) is required to kill them. The Divine / second-hand is to then return to SunClan and report this conclusion to a member of authority.

Note that should a cat choose to leave SunClan as a solution to their grief, they will be treated like any other cat who has left SunClan. It will not be considered a betrayal, but the cat will no longer be identified as a member of SunClan and may be killed should they come in conflict with SunClan's best interests.

However, instead of making the Boss / Underboss / Divine carry out the execution(s), I was thinking that I would restructure the Freedom Fighters to be the ones who carry out that dirty work. I also wrote some stuff on loyalty / how betrayals are handled -- this will be mostly new stuff that stems from Vertigo's obsession with the concept of loyalty.

Loyalty is one of the most respectable qualities a member of SunClan can have. This is a quality treasured by all ranks and is one of the most surefire ways to assure a rank of authority in the future. For this reason, disloyalty is just as serious of a matter, and betrayal is in many ways an "ultimate crime".

Depending on who is betrayed and the extent of the betrayal, different consequences will arise. Betraying the Boss is a criminal offense and can easily result in public execution depending on the severity of the matter. Betraying SunClan as a whole is also a quick route to public execution. Loyalty to these two things is requirement for life in SunClan.

Should one cat betray another cat of equal or lesser rank, the matter is brought to a higher-up's attention (any rank above that of both cats involved is acceptable) and a solution is to be reached. Duels and "fights to the death" are permitted with authority approval. Allowing the betrayed cat to carry out an execution or brutally maim the betrayer in public demonstration are also allowed for more serious matters. For example, if a tom commits adultery with another tom's mate, the toms are allowed to duel it out or fight to the death (publicly or privately). However, should a tom rape another tom's daughter, the female's father is allowed to publicly castrate the offending tom. The severity of the punishment correlates with the severity of the crime.

Public executions may or may not be common -- that depends on the members of SunClan. They are meant not to scare members into obedience, but to provide an example for the consequences of severe offenses, and are usually only carried out when a member commits an unspeakable crime. Because they are symbolic in nature, the nature of the executions follows through with this, with the method of execution relating to the crime.

> A cat who has leaked pertinent information to an enemy, for example, will have their tongue and eyes removed; they used these things to betray their Clan, and thus they will no longer be allowed to have them. Cats suffering this punishment will almost always die of shock and blood loss. Should they somehow survive, they will be exiled from SunClan and left to fend for themselves in the wild in their crippled state.

> A cat who has r**** a member of the Clan is usually dealt with by the victim's family, however a cat who rapes a female in a position of authority or a member of an authority's family (such as that of the Boss, Underboss, Divine, etc.) will potentially be subject to public castration. This can result in death (due to blood loss) but usually does not; the real punishment is that the cat will no longer be able to reproduce or repeat their crime.

> A cat who attacks or attempts to murder a position of authority will have their claws manually removed, causing excrutiating pain. Should the executee survive this (unlikely due to the amount of blood loss involved), they will be killed with a lethal cut to the throat.

> Other punishments are to be symbolically carried out as they arise, and are at the discretion of the Boss / Underboss.

Note: a cat that is to be executed for attempting suicide is not to receive a painful death. Their death will be carried out swiftly and definitely, but it does not have to be a public demonstration. It is preferred to be a private matter, carried out via a dosage of deathberries or another similarly humane method of euthanasia. This is easily subject to change should the suicidal cat resist / attempt to harm a position of authority during the process, however.

All of these "executions" would also be handled by the revamped "Freedom Fighters". I also see them as being trained to do assassinations and to do ambassador work for the Clan, ie. they would be SunClan's representatives when SunClan was commissioned for jobs by other groups.
