  • Inside the depths of the warrior den, a lean body slept soundly in the shadowy corner of the den. Alone as always, the only indication that Echobriar was even alive was the faint rise and fall of her chest as she slept. The she-cats fluffy tail was curled around her, hiding her gentle face as she slept. She was usually one of the first awake among the other clan cats, yet last night she had tossed and turned barely getting an hour of sleep.

    ...

A tiny brown figure launched itself across the camp, skidding to a stop in the center of it. Honeypaw's blue eyes were bright with anticipation as she looked across the camp. For the moment she stopped to groom her beautiful tabby coat, preparing herself for the day she had planned ahead of her. As always, the apprentice was in a good mood.

  • [glow=orange,2,300]
Piercing sunlight shined against his eyelids, giving the world an orange glow that instantly pulled Shadestep from his dream. A cursory glance around the warriors den showed that several cats still slept, not disturbed thanks to their nests farther from the opening. It wasn't unusual that they still slept, what was strange however was the fact that Echobriar was among them. She is usually up with the sun, same as I am. Shrugging off the unusual behavior, the massive tabby lumbered over to the Nursery to wake up his daughter.

    ~*~

Already alert when Shadestep arrived, Amberkit greeted him with a friendly nod. She, too, didn't sleep much but for different reasons than her father. Stifling what would have been a loud yawn, she hopped to her paws and lightly picked her way across the den. "Goodmorning" the tiny she-cat mewed, her voice so quiet that no one but Softstep would hear.

As she trailed behind him toward the fresh-kill pile she spotted another cat bouncing around the camp. Immediately Amberkit felt a rush of energy as her fear created adrenaline but she couldn't run from others anymore, now she was part of a Clan. ...BUT she still wasn't ready to actually talk to anyone so she fell into step on the opposite side of Shadestep like a bright shadow.

He saw what was happening and turned toward the apprentice that frightened Amberkit, hoping to show her that other cats are nothing to fear. "Good morning Honeypaw," he called over to the apprentice, eyes bright and friendly. "Waiting for your mentor?"[/glow]

    Ooc---
Ic--- In a lone den with only one figure inside that smelled of the tangy and bitter herbs, the single figure lay on the ground, fast asleep. She, and it was obviously a she because of her small frame, lay on her side, breathing steadily and as the sun shone brightly into her eyes she groaned and rolled over, not wanting to weak up but she popped open a bright green eye anyways.

The medicine cat sat up groggily, in no mood to talk with the other Clan cats as she ran a paw over her face and then licked her golden pelt until it shimmered in the dull dawn light.

She squeezed her way out of the medicine cat den and into the camp where she chose a small mouse and crouched over it, gulping it down in a few hungry bites. She had been famished for some reason and licked her jaws to make sure there were no traces of the mouse left and she picked up the bones discarding them behind her den.

  • The forest floor was nearly invisible, impossible to see through the thick mist that surrounded the tiny cat that pushed her way through it. Tall tree's reached up towards the sky, their thin branches stretched upwards towards the starless sky. Not a single leaf grew, and each little bush had been stripped of life, there skinny branches sticking out at all ends. Everything was dead. Everything except for the large creature stalking her through the shadows. She heard a branch snap, and as she turned to face the creature that caused the noise she felt herself thrown into the trunk of a nearby tree. To soon the creature was on her, red eyes staring at her, it was the only thing visible among the darkness that had taken over. White pointy teeth were bared at her and the she-cat found it impossible to move. Frozen in place, she watched as the thing snapped itches jaws shut inches from its face. And then, she awoke.

Echobriar turned suddenly, her eyes open wide, the she-cat bit back a yowl. Sighing she rested her head on her paws. Yet another nightmare to keep her from resting. Stretching her lean body the seh-cat sat in the corner of the den and began to groom her soft fur.

    ...

Honeypaw's ears perked slightly as she heard the sound of her own name. She turned to see the older warrior, Shadestep with his kit. Smiling slightly the she-cat nodded. "Yes, I was hoping we could do some hunting earlier so there would be more prey for the day" she added thoughtfully. Though she didn't see a sign of her mentor anywhere yet, and so the apprentice decided to get herself ready for whatever the day held for her.

    Ooc---
Ic--- Lightsoul pulled herself to her paws. Why must you not speak to me? Lighsoul thought at the dawning sun. She growled under her breath and dove back into the medicine cat den. She realized that her den was a complete and utter mess and sat down at one end, making three piles of roots, leaves, and berries and then sorted those into subsections. She repeated this process in each section of the den until they were all lined up neatly and there was actually room to walk around. She sighed and made a mental list inside of her head. I need to collect coltsfoot, juniper berries, poppy seeds, and horsetail.

  • A grey and white cat lay in the nursery, curled up with her two small kits. The sound of cats outside woke the cat, but the noise wasn't enough to wake the exhausted kits after their long night of playing when they should've been sleeping. The shecat's sky blue eyes slowly opened to the back wall of the nursery, trying to think of a reason to get up today. It's not like she had anything to live for; except for her kits. She sighed, then started to stand up. Magickit's eyes opened as he felt his mother moving from her nest. He turned his head toward her, yawning. "Mamma, where are you goin'?" Tinykit woke up as well, stretching her paws in her brother's face. "Hey, watch out!" he grumbled, pushing her off. Tinykit squeaked, then pushed him back. They started fighting in the nest, and Snowtail padded away. She knew they wouldn't really harm each other, so she let them do what they wanted. She padded over to the freshkill pile and grabbed a thrush, even though she wasn't really that hungry. But she knew that if she didn't eat something, one of her clan mates would start worrying or start telling her to eat a little something.

    ~

Patchpaw woke up when he heard the rustling inside the medicine den, caused by Lightsoul. He stayed where he was for a few moments, thinking of what he'd have to do today. The grey and white tom heard Lightsoul pad out of the den, then he stood up, stretching away his tiredness. Patchpaw padded out of the medicine cat den, squinting his bright orange eyes to the brighter orange light outside. As he stepped outside, he saw Lightsoul pad right back in. He shrugged, then went to the freshkill pile by himself. He picked up a vole and started eating it, though he wished there was a rabbit there for him to eat.

  • As the sun broke through the the leaves of her den, Brokenpaw was gently pulled from her sleep. Her ear twitched, before any other body part moved. After a few moments of stillness, the slumbering apprentice slowly opened her green eyes, slowly taking in the sights of the apprentice's den. There really wasn't much to see, just a few other sleeping bodies, and a lot of moss strewn about. She pulled herself out of her nest, and she began to clean the scraps of moss out of her fur until she was finally free of the pestering scraps. When her grey pelt was sparkling and clean she pulled herself to her paws, and began walking out of the den carefully. She calmly took in the scene of camp, her green eyes absorbing the sights. She watched as Lightsoul rushed to her den, and she carefully studied the cats as they gave greeting to each other. Preferring to stay silent, she quietly sat outside the apprentice's den, wondering where the rest of the cats were.

    -------

A cinnamon brown cat slept in the warriors den, his chest rising slowly up and down in his slumber. As rays of light entered the den, the warrior's pelt warmed up, and he turned onto his back, exposing his white underside. As his pelt warmed, it pulled him out of his deep slumber, and he awoke like that, his eyes opening upon roof of the den. He blinked in surprise, and then realized he was upside down. Rolling over, he pulled himself to his paw, before giving his fur a mighty shake. He walked outside the den, now that the moss had been dropped off of his cinnamon fur. He walked over to the fresh-kill pile, and grabbed a vole off the top. He waved his tail, towards Shadestep and Amberkit, and also towards Honeypaw. "Good morning." He said to the general population.

  • [glow=orange,2,300]
ooc.. Who are the mentors anyway?

bic.. "That's very courteous of you, I'm sure your mentor is proud that you are so eager to help the Clan," Shadestep replied, smiling. She looks so young, I wonder how Amberkit will be as an apprentice, he mused. The kit in question stared at Honeypaw from behind her father's bulk, light blue eyes still wide with uncertainty. "Let's get breakfast, Shadestep meowed as he nudged his daughter closer to the fresh-kill pile. "What are you in the mood for?"

Suddenly conscious of the large amount of cats that had just joined them for breakfast, Amberkit refused to speak and instead flicked her tail to show that she had heard. Like an orange bolt of lighting she darted to the food, grabbed the first thing and then hightailed it back to her father, turning back into a bright shadow at his side.

Chuckling, Shadestep walked over and carefully chose his piece, a mouse. Turning, he greeted each Clanmate in turn with a smaile, nod, and their name: Singleclaw, Patchpaw, Snowtail. Glad to see so many cats awake he had a hard time choosing where to sit but settled down next to Snowtail. "How are the kits doing? Amberkit tells me that your pair have a lot of energy." Despite the fact that he took a bite and was now chewing Shadestep couldn't help but smile, his old mate used to call him a softy since he preferred spending time with kits to spending time training for battle and the memory, while strange, always reminded him of why he chose her so long ago.

  • { I don't think any have been assigned yet. }

Honeypaw nodded, a slight grin forming on her face glad for the warriors kind words. Then the tiny she-cat went back to smoothing down her light brown tabby pelt. The streaks of orange seemed to burn like embers underneath the light of the sun. A moment later her bright eyes looked up, searching the camp. Finally the she-cat moved towards the freshkill pile, picking up a small mouse for herself. Hopefully she would be bringing in more prey by the end of the day. She always liked to help out the clan anyway she could, but feeding the clan always gave her a great sense of accomplishment.

    ...

On the other side of the camp, a small head peeked out of the warriors den. Her jaws parted in a yawn, Echobriar stepped out of the warriors den. Her fur had been neatly groomed, her feathery tail moving gracefully behind her as the she-cat approached the freshkill pile herself. But something seemed to be gnawing at her stomach and she couldn't quite bring herself to eat the prey that lay there. Sighing the she-cat turned away from the good that had been brought into the clan and instead sat just outside the warriors den. Maybe hunting will take my mind of things... the she-cat thought. Maybe she just needed to get out into the forest, to be alone for a bit.

  • OOC: I have no idea.. :P

Singleclaw took large bite out of his meal, relishing in the delicious meal. He truly believed that there was no better food than a nice plump vole. He waved his tail at Amberkit, trying to be friendly even though he questioned why the little kit was so skittish. He himself wasn't going to ask, it wasn't in his nature, but he wouldn't mind knowing. "Goodmorning Amberkit." He said softly, as to not frighten the kit- though he didn't do softly very well.

  • [glow=orange,2,300]ooc.. Well there are 4 warriors and 4 apprentices. Who wants Shadestep? haha

bic.. As Singleclaw spoke to Amberkit she tensed slightly, but it was clear the warrior was trying to be kind. Her father curled his tail around the kit's tiny body, hugging her close to give her comfort and courage. In a quiet but high-pitched voice Amberkit spoke. "H-hello Singleclaw." It was so soft that none but Shadestep and Singleclaw would be able to make out the words but she felt proud for speaking even though she didn't have the courage to look at the cinnamon tom for more than a moment as she spoke. After watching his daughter's reaction, Shadestep flashed a warm smile to Singleclaw, mouthing the word thank you while Amberkit delicately nibbled her prey. He always appreciated the efforts of others to bring her out of her shell.

    Ic---

  • [glow=white,2,300]{I will assign the mentors as soon as everyone decides who they want-- There's Honeypaw, Shatterpaw, Brokenpaw, and Patchpaw is The medicine cat apprentice. c:

    And Horse Love: Nothing much happened-- A few of the apprentices woke up, and some warriors did too. c:}

Ic: Shatterpaw blinked opened his green eyes, his fur ruffled and spiked from his restless sleep. He shook the slight dizziness from his head as he sat up, blinking against the bright sunlight from outside. Yeesh, his dreams had kept him from getting any rest. They weren't necessarily bad dreams-- Just dreams that confused and mystified the young tom. He had woken many times in the night, one dream after another dragging him from sleep into the cold night. With an irritated sigh, he stepped from the den, seeing Brokenpaw nearby.[/glow]

  • OOC: Bloodstripe will mentor someone if you want....

The fluttering of ginger eyelids announced that Bloodstripe had awakened. Her thin shape slowly arose, blue eyes reflecting the soft light of the morning. The crimson stripe on her tail shown brightly, standing out against her fur. The she scanned the warriors den. Most everyone was already gone, only a few felines sleep late in Echoclan. Her paws were sore, but she wasn't sure exactly why. Cats had told her she jerked around in her sleep, so maybe that was why. Whatever the reason was, Bloodstripe didn't feel like walking. She sighed, trotting out of her den. The light was much brighter outside, and she had to blink a bit before getting used to it. Her belly grumbled, so she turned her path to the fresh-kill pile. Her eyes rested on the pile. She bent down and delicately grabbed a squirrel in her jaws. She carried it over to the side of camp, and sat it there. As she eat, she surveyed the cats around her.

Singleclaw smiled at the small kit, and his eyes flickered up to Shadestep just in time to see his thank-you. It was hard pressed to get a smile out of Singleclaw, but apparently he had a soft spot for kits, as his smile grew warmer, he mouthed back to the other warrior, No problem. He had a feeling he wasn't going to get a full blown conversation going with Amberkit, and he decided a 'Hello' was better than nothing. "So how are you, Shadestep?" He asked the little kit's father, A smile still playing over his usually colder features.

Brokenpaw looked up, and as she did so she saw Shatterpaw exit the Apprentice's den, quite near to where she was sitting. As she watched him she felt a rush of heat come over her, and her heart started to beat a little quicker. Is this supposed to happen? She wondered, whilst tearing her green gaze away from the other apprentice. Her mother had always told her it was rude to stare, but sometimes it was really hard not to! Instead of staring at the other Apprentice she trained her eyes upon a frozen leaf that lay near him- so she could still watch him out of the corner of her eye.

bic.. "I'm doing well. There is a patrol at sun-high but I might try and get some hunting done first," Shadestep replied, his eyes flicking back to Amberkit. "Eat the rest of the sparrow," he mewed to her. His tone had the finality of a father in it but his eyes showed that he was poking fun at her. This was clearly an argument they went through many a morning in the Clan. In a swift motion he used some slight-of-paw to switch his mouse for Amberkit's sparrow. "She dislikes the feathers," he offered as explination. "Anyway, how are you today, Singleclaw?" Now that his daughter was eating, Shadestep focused his blue eyes on the other tom.[/glow]

Shadestep noted their exchange with a grin, before directing his attention back to Singleclaw. "I agree, it seems that everyone got hungry at once. Well, would you like to go hunting with me?" A glance around camp showed that most cats were still munching their breakfast. "Though you might need to work out which patrol you're on before we run off," he added with a chuckle.

Shatterpaw looked up from his paws, seeing Brokenpaw staring... At him? No... He contradicted himself, seeing her staring at what seemed to be a leaf on the ground. Shatterpaw took his gaze up to Brokenpaw's eyes, wanting to say something to avoid an awkward silence. It seemed there was already one happening-- He was just sitting there! Quickly, he licked his paw and brought it up over his ear, which, luckily, had a small tuft of fur sticking up.

A small Thump sounded nearby as Violetstar awoke and stepped out of her den. She looked around, surveying the camp with narrowed violet eyes before relaxing and padding forward. "Good morning, Deadfire." She mewed, seeing her deputy little ways away. "Do you have time to help me decide the mentors for our apprentices? I want to get them into training as soon as possible." She smiled slightly. "They get restless after about two days of being in camp with nothing to do. Soon they'll be climbing up the camp walls!" She purred with amusement. "That'd give Lightsoul something to fix, though."[/glow]
