Her calico-and-white fur ruffled by the wind and her emerald-green eyes sparkling enthusiastically, Dapplefire trotted toward the fresh-kill pile and dropped her freshly caught squirrel at the bottom of the heap. ThunderClan was running fine on prey this green-leaf, and every cat was thankful for it. Hearing a grunt of dismay from the Elders' Den, Dapplefire leaned down to pick up her squirrel again before hurrying to the retired warriors. Foxfoot was snoring, fast asleep, in his nest while Goldenlight was sitting in hers, watching the sleeping tom with narrowed eyes.
"Here, Goldenlight," Dapplefire meowed, offering the grouchy elder the squirrel. "I brought this for you. You should eat it."
"Don't tell me what to do and what not!" Goldenlight hissed at the young calico-and-white she-cat. "I'll do what I want."
Dapplefire flinched. She had only been trying to help.
"This mangy old furball won't be quiet!" Goldenlight snapped, glaring at Foxfoot as he let out a snort in his sleep.
Not knowing what to say, Dapplefire backed out of the Elders' Den and scrambled to the clearing in search of a relaxing, sunny spot in the grass.
