Skymist padded up to Badgerpaw. "So, are you ready to get started?"

Badgerpaw's eyes shined. "Is that a trick question? Yes!"

Skymist purred in amusement. "Alright then! What would you like to do first?"

"Can we battle train?" Badgerpaw asked.

"Of course!" Skymist mewed, padding out the camp. "Come on, follow me!" she called, beckoning him on with her tail.

Badgerpaw raced out after Skymist.

They arrived at the training hollow.
Skymist whirled around to face Badgerpaw. "Now, I'm going to teach you the back kick. It's an explosive surprise move to catch an opponent from behind. Judge your opponent's distance from you carefully, then lash out with your back legs, taking all weight on your front paws."

"Ok, can you show me?"

Skymist nodded. "Like this!" she mewed, launching an explosive back kick. If there were actually a cat behind her, he or she would must certainly have been knocked off their feet.

Badgerpaw watched his mentor carefully. He nodded. He launched a back kick behind him perfectly.

"Good job!" Skymist complimented, nodding her approval.

Badgerpaw's eyes sparked with excitement.

"Now let's try a belly rake! It's a fight-stopper. Slice with unsheathed claws against the soft flesh of the opponent's belly. If you're pinned down, the belly rake quickly puts you back into control!" Skymist mewed.

Badgerpaw nodded. He thought for a moment then jumped onto a side of a tree and pushed off with his hind legs to the ground to slide on the loose dirt. He slid under Skymist's belly raking her soft fur while he slid under. He popped up out of the other side of her and pinned her by her shoulders to the ground.

Badgerpaw had caught Skymist by surprise. In fact, she was quite shocked at being pinned down by her own apprentice! Suddenly, she burst out purring and laughing. "Well done!" she exclaimed while pushing him off and getting back up.
