  • Quailpaw purred proudly and picked up one of the rabbits. Then, she tried to get the second one, but the first one would slip, and she would have to set them both down and try again, but as before, be unable. It was impossible for her to pick them up, but she stubbornly tried again and again, tail twitching with frustration.

  • he chuckled at her and rested his tail on her back lightly, motioning her to stop. He smiled at her, "We can always make a second trip." he said to her, "Or you can put it on your back." he said. He picked up a rabbit and stuck his nose under its belly and flicked his head up to make it slide onto his back. He looked at Quailpaw.

  • Quailpaw immediately tried his technique, but the rabbit was tilted to one side, and when she stood up, it slipped and fell. She became slightly annoyed, but tried again, and finally managed to balance the rabbit on her back.

  • He smiled, and gently moved it so it was close to her shoulder blades, "That should help keep it stable." he said, smiling proudly at her, "You did well." he said and picked up another rabbit in his jaws.

  • Quailpaw purred, again, and began to follow Robinheart slowly and carefully back to camp. When they reached the log that they had passed by earlier, she stopped, wondering whether the rabbit would be shaken off or slip if she climbed over it.

  • Robinheart reached the log and looked down its trunk. He walked over to the side and stepped onto a smaller log, that led up to the bigger one like stairs. Once he reached the top of the log he looked down at Quailpaw and nodded for her to follow. With a quick flick of his tail he jumped down onto the other side.

  • Quailpaw followed his lead, stepping onto the smaller log and jumping off. She hurried after Robinheart, but then felt her rabbit slip. She paused for a moment to readjust it, then reassumed walking.

  • He smiled at her and moved his shoulders slightly to readjust his rabbit. He kept walking and glanced behind him to make sure Quailpaw wasn't falling behind.

  • She caught up so her mentor, and looked around. The sun was starting to get closer to the horizon, and it had been a long day. Luckily, they had already walked most of the distance back to camp, and Quailpaw could already see the cats bustling inside.

  • He smiled at her before walking into the camp. He lifted his head and waited for Quailpaw to walk beside him as the other clan cats smiled at them both.

  • Quailpaw was proud, but also became unusually shy, seeing the many questioning and congratulating eyes. She hurriedly padded to drop off her prey, reddening a little. Then, she silently scolded herself for being so nervous. These were cats that she had lived her whole life with! There was nothing to fear from them...
Then, she shook her head quickly, as if to dismiss such thoughts, and turned back to Robinheart.

  • He placed his kill down and watched as Robinheart became slightly nervous and red. He chuckled at her and smiled, "You did very well today." he praised, "Most apprentices wouldn't have been able to hunt many rabbits on their first go." he said, smiling at her proudly.

  • Quailpaw reddened even more, but inside, she was happy and proud, as well as slighly tired, though she would never admit that. "Are we going to do anything else today?" she asked.

  • He smiled and looked up at the sky pointedly, it was already getting dark as his eyes darted down to Quailpaw, "If you don't mind the dark." he said, smiling playfully. His whiskers twitched as he purred, "No we're not, its a bit too dark now." he said, "We can start again tomorrow, I think you need some est." he said.

  • Quailpaw agreed reluctantly, turning and padding back into the apprentice's den. Despite that she didn't feel very tired, she soon sank into a deep sleep.

  • He chuckled as he watched her sulk off and walked into his own warrior den. He lay down and curled his tail around his body before closing his eyes and falling asleep.

  • Some time later, Quailpaw woke up, blinking at the bright sunlight. Yawning, she sat up in her nest, and stretched, before heading outside.

  • Robinheart was already sitting by the freshkill pile eating a small mouse. He lifted his head and smiled when he saw Quailpaw walk out of the apprentice den.

  • Quailpaw padded over to her mentor, and shifted her weight from paw to paw anxiously. She was slightly hungry, but not really, and wondered if she should eat or ask Robinheart what they were to do today instead.

  • He smiled and sat up, watching as she treaded her paws anxiously. He chuckled, "Are you hungry?" he asked, cocking his head slightly.
