    Eric's could hear his heart pounding in his ear.He had just received a phone call from the hospital that Ronnie had cancer.As he pulled into a parking spot,he quickly got out and went inside.The cold air conditioner blew into his face,sending chills down his spine but he kept going.He walked up to the front desk and asked what room Ronnie was in.

    Ronnie glanced at him."I don't want you seeing me like this.."She could only talk in a whispering tone now."Just go home.."

    Eric shook his head and pulled a chair next to her bed.He sat in it and looked her in the eye."But I don't want to leave."He said gently.
