  • Gingerpaw was not supposed to be out without her mentor, but of course she was. What else is an apprentice to do, but get in trouble? But when she saw a kit outside in the rain, she wished her mentor was there.
She decided she would try her best to help the poor, lost kit. The ginger apprentice padded over to it, wishing there was at least another apprentice with her. The kit was mewing loudly, presumably for its mother.
Gingerpaw tried to pick up the kit in her jaw, but alas, it was too heavy. The apprentice figured she would go back to camp and get a warrior to help her bring this it back. Then when she turned around to go back to camp, she realized that she, too, was lost.
"Oh, no," she moaned, sitting down next to the little kit.
Deciding she would make conversation, she spoke a few words to the little kit.
"Hey, I'm Gingerpaw. What's your name?"

  • The shy kit, noticing Gingerpaw, become filled with fright. He tried to back away, but a tree blocked his way.
"Do- do you know where my mother is?" he quietly asked.

  • Jadewhisker heard the cats talking as she padded silently through the forest. She padded towards where the voiced were coming from.

  • "No, I'm sorry, I don't."
Gingerpaw felt horrible not being able to help the poor kit. Then she heard someone coming.
"Someone's coming! They're going to help you, okay?"

  • Jadewhisker padded into the clearing with the two other cats. "What's going on here?" She asked, tilting her head to the side.

  • Gingerpaw was glad to see a warrior, and quickly answered her question.
"I found this kit out here, and I was planning to take her back to the camp but I lost my way."
The apprentice wasn't concerned about being punished for being out on her own, she just wanted to get this poor kit to safety.

  • Gingerpaw leaped to where Treekit was running she stood in front of him and looked down.
"We're going to help you find your mother, but we can't unless you stay still, okay?"
The young apprentice smiled at the kit by her feet.

  • Treekit, realizing that Gingerpaw was not going to harm him, stopped his escape attempt and looked at the apprentice.
"Who's the other big cat?" he questioned.

  • Gingerpaw was glad the tiny kit was no longer trying to escape. She didn't think she would have been able to stop the kit and he would have been lost.
"The other cat is named Jadewhisker. She's a warrior, it means she can hep protect all of our other cats. She's a friend too, so don't be afraid of her."

  • "Let's get you back to camp and out of this rain, alright?" Jadewhisker asked, bending down so she was eye level with the kit.

  • Treekit suddenly stopped purring. He scented a strange smell. Then he saw something
moving from behind the trees. It was a fox!

  • Gingerpaw noticed the kit look somewhere in the trees. She began to look, and the scent of fox hit her straight in the nose. She gasped and nearly panicked.
    "Run, there's a fox!"

  • Treekit became worried after Gingerpaw pointed out the fox. He ran, struggling to keep up with Gingerpaw. He tripped over a rock and fell to the ground, dazed.

  • Jadewhisker carefully picked up Treekit in her jaws and asked, "Are you alright?" as she ran with him in his teeth.

  • Gingerpaw breathed a sigh of relief and flopped down on the ground.
"Phew! I thought we were done for good there."
She got to her feet and surveyed the area, contemplating their new location.
"Uh, one problem guys. We're even more lost now."
