He sat down in his seat just as his art class began, he sighed inwardly, and began to listen to the teacher's beginning lecture.
-
Era sat in french, repeating the words the teacher spoke with perfect pronuncition. But her mind was else-where, why didn't he care that she was an outcast?
-
He mindlessly started sketching, not even paying attention as his wrist moved of it's own accord, the pencil lead scratching on the paper, he looked down, and examined his sketch slightly, it was Era, he tucked it into his binder, and started a landscape on a large sheet of paper.
-
Era bit back more tears, blinking furiously as she foreced the words out. The teacher asked if she was okay, in french, "Oui." She lied in answer, looking at her desk
-
John still sketched absentmindedly, his eyebrows meeting in a sharp 'V'.
-
The bell rang finally, signaling the end of the school day. Era stood fast, grabbing her stuff
-
John put his art away, and slung his book-bag over one shoulder as he walked out of the classroom, pushing through the crowd of excited teens.
-
Era held the handle of her bag tightly, trudging along the abandoned path that led 'home' without looking over her shoulder, tears stung her eyes
-
John followed a similar path, pushing through a thicket of thorn bushes.
-
Era, hearing footsteps, swiveled around in surprise, grip tightening on her bag
-
John cursed softly as the thorns dug into his bare arms, he took a quick glance around, hearing a small crunch.
-
Era caught her breath in her throat, "Hello?"
-
"Who's there?" John called out, stumbling slightly over a vine.
-
Era shivered slightly, "Era." She replied softly
-
"Era? It's me, John, from school." He said, snapping a branch out of his way.
-
"Oh, hey." Era whispered back, looking at the ground, he remembers me....not good
-
He struggled through the last of the thicket, and found himself not ten feet from Era "You doing okay?" He asked.
-
"Yes." Era lied, biting her bottom lip to stop herself telling him the awful truth
-
His eyes narrowed slightly "As you say, I feel as though you are being secluded, and not coming out forth-right." He said.
