  • The co-deputy could still see that demon. It still worried him that Ebony wouldn't tell. But for now, that ought to be kept somewhere else. He needed to train- no, teach her. Peregrineskies padded to his apprentice. "So, what should I teach you first?"

    Oc: Lost creativity.

  • "Umm..." Ebonypaw wiped the last of the sleep out of her eyes with a paw while she racked her brain for suggestions. Sear sighed, his transparent crimson pelt shining like fire in the morning sun. "What must a warrior do besides fight?" "Sleep..." Ebonypaw murmured. "Hunt, imbecile." The dark furred apprentice straitened up, a new spark of enthusiasm shining within her colorless eyes. "Yeah! Uh... Hunt! Hawkclan hunts in the trees and stuff, right?" Sear stifled a groan. Having that pesky runt around was bad enough, but the ghostly tom was starting to get annoyed at how slow Ebony was. It was how all apprentices naturally were, and he couldn't expect the shecat to be a prodigy like him even with all of that dream training, but still...

  • "Sleep is a part of your own personal time. Now, get up and come on. I'll show you the territory first. Then we can hunt." Peregrineskies gave a quick glare to Sear, then turning away. The co-deputy padded out of the den and made his way to the camp entrance.

  • Sear narrowed his eyes. It wasn't the first time that the tom felt like Peregrineskies actually looked at him. "Stupid runt." Out of all the animals on the mortal plane, why did that one have the ability to see him? Sear's thoughts were interrupted by Ebonypaw's excited voice that faded slightly as she padded after Peregrineskies. "Really? I've only seen part of it when I came in. But even that looked so big! How big is this place?" Sear caught up to Ebonypaw and wrinkled his nose. 'You're impressed by this? I bet thunderclan's bigger." "What's a Thunderclan?" Ebonypaw whispered. "Shut it, Ebony. You're being... Trained." Ebonypaw went silent and absentmindedly scratched at the thin scar on her chest.

  • Just as they came out, Peregrineskies once again turned to her. "First, I'll show you the borders. And... While I'm teaching you, I would prefer if your friend stayed here, or at least twenty fox-lengths away." The deputy meowed, his eye turning to the demon on a part of that sentance, then looking back at Ebony for her reaction.

  • Ebony's eyes widened in shock. For a few agonizingly long seconds, the black and silver apprentice said nothing. Her mouth hung open like a fish's. 'W-who?" "You're horrible at playing dumb." Sear let his icy blue gaze rest on Peregrineskies. He looked incredibly familiar right now... "Listen Perey-whatever. There is no way you can make me stay away. As far as you are concerned, I'm not here. Kapeesh?" Ebonypaw looked dumbfounded. "You can actually see him too?" Of course he could. Didn't he tell her that she was possessed when they first met?

  • The runt's blue orb watched their jaws. He first answered his apprentice, "Of course I can. Your dead friend is a tom with red fur and many scars." The deputy added that last part as proof. Peregrineskies' head then turned to look at the demon. "That's not even a word, besides, if you're not here, then how come I see you?" He said in a serious tone. "Besides, I need to know what's she's like without you insulting her and you being her guide to everything. Even her own life."

  • Sear shot forward so his face was threateningly close to Peregrineskies'. The ghostly tom wished he was still alive; having a jet of hot ragged breath blasted in your face was more terrifying. "As far as you are concerned, " Sear repeated, putting more emphasis on the first part. "I'm not here. But I've always been here. Right Ebony?" The apprentice's head shot up. "Um... Right!" Sear turned, then started to pace in front of peregrineskies. "And when have I abandoned you?" Ebony paused. "Never." "Precisely. The world has turned it's back on this kit, but I've always been here. I've already lived a life, so I can guide Ebony through her's. You want to know what she's like without me? Lost, that's what." Sear stopped and let his icy gaze rest on the co-deputy. "I'll stay behind to shut you up and prove my point. But I'll be watching." Sear narrowed his eyes. "Very closely. You may be her mentor, but she's my apprentice." Ebonypaw stared at her paws.

  • Peregrineskies glared at thhe demon. "Thank you, I can't hear, but I can tell your voice is annoying." The co-deputy responded, turning toward Ebony. Note to self: Ask demon's name. He thought, making a mental list.

"Alright, follow me toward the river." He mewed, flicking his tail to the west, soon padding that way.

  • "mkay!" Ebonypaw padded after Peregrineskies. "Bye Sear!" Those were two words the tom never hoped to hear. Stupid, meddling runt... If he couldn't be heard, then how did he know that Sear was insulting- er... criticising Ebony? Meh... Perhaps it was for the best. Then he wouldn't hear any kill orders. Sear almost chuckled at that thought.

  • Peregrineskies smiled as she followed after him.
    Excellent.
Th runt padded on, soon reaching the area where the trees stopped. fox-length ahead of him, was the slow-moving river. Peregrineskies waited for his apprentice to catch up.

  • It didn't die. It was MURDERED. DUN DUN DUN. Mine was too. D:

Ic: Peregrineskies smiled as she caught up. "This is the river. On the other side is Riverclan territory."

  • Murdered!?! :o Time to whip out my toasted mallet of magicalness, 'cause I got some muse killers to beat!

"Riverclan?" Ebonypaw leaned over to stare in the water, then took a quick whiff of air. "Nugh!" The apprentice covered her nose with a paw as a distinctly fishy smell assailed her nostrils.

  • No need, *sips tea* I have figured out our culprit. And that is you! *points at Sear* xp

"Distasteful, but fish give us energy." The tom pointed out.

  • XD *Throws paws in air* "Filthy runt! Why would I, the almighty Sear, need to kill a- No, that isn't a body. Nope. It's a... government aircraft!"

"Oh." Ebonypaw lifted her paw from her nose and stared into the water again. A few minnows flitted in and out of her field of vision, their small grey bodies slightly distorted by the smooth surface of the water.
"So Hawkclan.can swim?" Ebonypaw dipped her paw in the water and watched the minnows flee before it. The apprentice shivered. She couldn't imagine putting her entire body into a river on purpose.

  • Ebonypaw lifted her gaze from the water. "I don't really like water..." But at least it was better than rocky landscapes. Something was missing. Ebony's ear twitched, listening for Sear's comment. It never came. The apprentice felt so strange without the spirit. So unstructured, so unbalanced, so unsure, and so... free. Ebony lifted her head up and stared across the border. No, Ebonypaw; she was apart of something now. Once again, she had a family, related by bond instead of blood. The sun gently warmed Ebonypaw's raven colored pelt while her silver hinted ears twitch with pleasure.

But alas, good feelings never last for too long. Sear, true to his word, watched from afar, hidden from Ebony's gaze by the underbrush. His icy blue eyes narrowed in suspicion. He would have to remind the she-cat why she had to stick with him.

  • "Not one of my favorites either." The runt flicked his tail. "Let's move on, to the rest of the territory." Peregrineskies turned and padded toward the forest again.

  • Ebonypaw stared over the river for a second more, then turned and hurried to catch up to Peregrineskies. The apprentice cast a quick glance upwards as the leaves started to cover the cloudless sky. Ebonypaw took.each step gingerly, trying her best not to crush the fallen leaves and scare off every rodent within a half-mile radius.
